OK, we only have Wednesday and Thursday, then the 2010 season is over. Sure would like to hear from anyone who attends the last few days, a nice trip report, and maybe some details about close out sales on merchandise and 50th anniversary year stuff. Thanks everyone, it's been a fun anniversary year here at SDCFans.com! :)
Just got back today, I was there the past 2 days, and it was great.
The 26h we arrived around 2:30 and parked right in the front of "C"-whatever it is called now! and walked in. It was EMPTY. The only time I have seen less people was the opening weekend when we hit the ice storm this year-I think- and there were 30 something people in the park total.
The weather was about 25 degrees, dipping down into the teens as the night went on, It was a great day at the park. We enjoyed the lights, and the very open walkways, the lack of lines etc.
Yesterday (Dec 27) it was a different story. We got there about 3, and ended up parking in one of the last rows of Lot #3. It was a bit warmer-maybe 35-40 degrees, but it was packed. It all started badly with parkiing..then my pass would not scan (probably from overuse!) and then the lines for everything were crazy long. I did get a deal on a mug, and 2 magnets, and 3 keychains for $6 (the mug itself was $5 so you do the math!) sales on the 50th season candles were pretty good, and the candy store wasnt too bad either! The woman selling me my souvenirs thanked me because that meant it was less for her to have to count for inventory.
Overall a great time, except for the pesky cast on my hand/ arm, but that has nothing to do with SDC, only that it makes it hard to type this review so I am ending it here...It was great, I just might go back to SDC next year!
I am going down tomorrow after work 12/29 and plan on starting back Thursday evening. This is an encore trip, I didn't get enough the first time, call me crazy! An if there is anyone who can still use 3 "bring a friend" for Thursday, I'll have a KC royals hat on me noggin' Wednesday aft and evening. I'll be a guy with a graying beard and a green Ozark Mountain Christmas Sweatshirt under my coat. Feel free to say hello and get the passes.
Our visits are over for 2010, but this was the best year my family and I have ever had at SDC...here's looking forward to 2011!
Sadly we did not make it down to SDC this year, had to enjoy reading about everyone elses fun times through this site, but on a better note I know that we will be down in 2011, as low and behold when I opened a gift at my Father-in- laws on Christmas Day what do my wondering eyes should appear, none other than a 2011 Silver Dollar City Season Pass. WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!

Interesting...I also got my season pass at my father-in-laws for Christmas...Maybe I'll see you at SDC next year...
Today (THURSDAY) is the LAST DAY of the 2010 SDC Operating Season! Anyone going to the park, today? Please post a trip review and let us know about the last day bargains at the shops! Any interesting citizen stories and a final update on Half Dollar Holler would be appreciated, too! Thanks!
I think it only appropriate that we all observe a moment of silence for this sad day. :-X :'(
(Silence)
Thank you!
I just ordered the seasons passes for 2011.
I needs me some more SDC :)
Got mine as my birthday / Christmas present. March can't get here fast enough
( ) :'( silence. LOL!!..
Man what a great day would have been today. too bad i am back in topeka :'(
Well, I just got back from my short trip to the hallowed ground! ;) Had a great time, as usual, saw the pickers twice and was told that SDC set attendance records this year. There was alot of empty shelves and areas from the clearanced merchandise, I couldn't find anything I couldn't live without. Spending 260.00 on next years passes will do that to ya. Looked at the area for the Half Dollar Holler from as many angles as I could, but as others have said, not much has happened there, just a lot of flags. The crowd Wednesday was very manageable, but Thursday, there were long lines for Wildfire, my favorite. Lots of younger folk out enjoying the incredible weather. Finally broke down and went to the Pure Heart/Tracey Heaston show. Tracey was great, but the girls need to get some new material, the yodeling championship and the chain saw imitation was left over from the regular season, and didn't belong. Christmas Carol was fantastic, also as usual, but I saw a fellow doing the part of Spirit of Christmas past that I don't remember seeing before. I missed seeing the other fellow form the Sons of the Silver Dollar, he does a great job. All in all, good times!
It is now Friday, December 31. The gates are closed, the shops shuttered, the rides and attractions closed. The "citizens" are taking some time off. God bless the place and the people who run it. In a few days the construction begins at HDH, and everything will be freshened up, painted, and ready to go for us again in mid-March. Thanks for a wonderful 50th anniversary year! Let's toast the new year and a new season at Silver Dollar City! ;D
Amen Junior....
Here's to 50+ more years for Silver Dollar City!
I'll see you all there next year!
Cheers to great 2010 with family, friends and that there is a place where memories are worth repeating
11:20 pm my time , new years eve. You all have a great nite. Be safe! we're all done for the year now.
Here is wishing everybody a positive 2011.!
talk to everybody next year!!
Here's wishing everyone a safe, healthy and prosperous 2011 with many great trips to SDC.
The last day at Silver Dollar City is similar to the last day of school before the summer break. You are so excited about next year, and advancing to a higher grade level, but yet at the same time you are a bit sentimental of the previous year.
There is something about watching Silver Dollar City close their doors, take down their decorations, pack up their attractions, and shut down their rides that just touches a special place in my heart.
However, just like the blossoming flowers of Spring, Silver Dollar City will awaken from a deep slumber, and entertain us again soon! What an incredible year. :)
My son in-law actually works for a company that is contracted out to bring cranes into the park and take down the giant tree. I am not sure what other work they will do if any inside the park. I told him to try to get me one of the 50th anniversary banners they have hanging around the park. They probably would not be allowed to do this or they might all be spoken for. But I thought it would be worth a try considering what a great souvenir it would be.
Pintrader...more details on a giant crane to remove the giant tree. Are you talking about the old treehouse attraction?
No Junior I sure hope not anyway. His company Ozark Crane is contracted out to take the giant Christmas tree down and do a few other things that he didn't go into detail about. I never thought to ask him about the treehouse. Let's hope that's not part of the job.
Whew, you guys about had my heart skip a beat! Sure, the old tree house is taking up valuable real estate, but shucks it looks so good there that they better not remove it anytime soon!
Taking down the big Christmas Tree sounds much more realistic, and reasonable. :P
Whew! Ok, thanks!
In dec. I took about 40-50 photos of the treehouse thinking that it was-no pun intended- on its last legs...I will post the collage on my art thread tomorrow.

That sounds wonderful Rube! I am glad to hear that you are going out on a limb to root our memories of the most famous tree in Silver Dollar City. :)
thanks rube.. keep up on the collages.
Ozarks's entry from January 4th spews the SDC "aura" I wrote about so long ago. Nice sentiment, Ozark!
Thanks Andy! :)
I know it's a sentiment that we all share together. Silver Dollar City is almost like another member of each one of our families. I am looking forward to the "final countdown" when they swing their doors wide open again! :D
countdown?? ??? ??? ??? 70 days to go.... thanks for asking. ;D ;D
As long as we don't all start singing the Final Countdown song by Europe I suppose everything will work out. ;)
I know...how 'bout a New Year's Eve type of countdown! LOL :D
It can be a webcast and maybe Junior can be host! There will be two or three regulars from SDCFans.com set up in different locations to talk to tourists and SDC "citizens, reports on traffic, the buzz around the parking lot. Then....there'll be the big countdown and the gates are opened!
3....2....1....Happy 2011 SDC Opening!

"Do-do-do-do." "Do-do-do-do-do." "Do-do-do-do." "Do-do-do-do-do-do!" ;D
STOP!! STOP!! LOL........ 69 days
My dad & i can do the videoin' !! :D
now you have got something going.. webcast, and recorded. maybe we can get RFD to run the the broadcast!!
Excellent idea, sanddune! RFD-TV would be perfect for it! I never thought of that. Ok, so let's have fun with this. We have Junior host it. Who would co-host or be the coverage reporters?? ???
I have been opening day, But I was not present for the gates that morning...I don't know if there are special ceremonies because of the opening day or not...It'd be something to find out.
I have been one of the first people in the gate on opening day for the last 5 seasons.. Same as any day... I do not think I will be able to go Opening day this year. I will have to go the next weekend because I do not really want to burn 2 vacation days...
Well, after my SDC days I was a radio broadcaster for about 20 years in southeast Missouri and east Arkansas! Maybe I could handle hosting the show?? Get it approved with RFD-TV, I'M READY! And then, just like the ZZ Top song, "I'm nationwide!!!! ;)
Sounds like a plan to me Junior! ;D
I can't say for sure since usually I am pumped with so much adrenaline, but usually they do a ten second count down everyday at park opening. I am sure the first day will be the same if not more so.
I realize this is just a dream...but since we ARE dreaming.... Terry the Tour Guide has to be there as a roaming reporter.
Oh yeah! Terry has GOT to be there. It would be nice to work with him again.
;) I'll handle the music :D
I will create the commemorative artwork for the occasion!
OK! sounds llike fun!
;D ;D
If you are already missing an Old Time Christmas and can not wait until next Christmas here is a Video I found to tide you over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6ou7B7PL0s&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6ou7B7PL0s&NR=1)
watched it, great video! Probably 1 of the best i have seen! good picture quality, taken just late enough in the day to see the lights, but still enough daylight to see the background.. NICE!!
