Anybody ever had this? My 14-year old loves it. I have to buy it for him because they won't sell it to minors. It is incredibly hot! Anybody know how many Scoville units are in it?
Not to boast, but I am the one responsible for the naming of this taffy. My first job at the City was in the taffy shop when it was located in the cabin near the Train Depot. There is 4oz of cinnamon that may not seem like a lot but it is!
that's very very hot taffy. Had a piece when I was there in June. I think I turned several shades of purple eatinig that stuff.
I am a "try anything once" kinda guy when it comes to different, new, or exotic foods. this falls into the "different" category. I asked for it, and it was placed in another bag, as to not get confused with the other taffy. Darn near wore a hole in my tongue! I will not be trying it again. (I should have known there was an issue before hand when I knew I didn't even like "Big Red" cinnamon gum!
There are videos on youtube of various people trying the taffy...some are funny because that is the real feeling of eating this. You think..."Hmmm it cannot be that hot, it is candy.....then it gets stuck in your teeth, and you have to keep working at it whilst your mouth is on fire"
Quotethen it gets stuck in your teeth, and you have to keep working at it whilst your mouth is on fire"
Yep, Wildfire is the Napalm of taffy!
There are two colors mixed into the taffy--red and black. I'm assuming the red is the cinnamon. What is the black--or is it a secret!?!
Here's a nice video on associated content of the pulling of Wildfire Taffy.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/video/622838/pulling_fresh_saltwater_taffy_at_silver.html?cat=16 (http://www.associatedcontent.com/video/622838/pulling_fresh_saltwater_taffy_at_silver.html?cat=16)
I believe the black stripe is only to identify it as WILDFIRE.
I love in this video how he states that he cannot give a sample to a young'n, and that he can give it to the mother, and she in turn can give it to him, but he cannot give it to the kid! Funny, but truthful.
That video is cool. Of all the taffy's that they could have been making that day...it's cool to see that they got to watch Wildfire. When we first discovered wildfire candy, my wife asked for a piece to give to my son, and the worker was very reluctant to do so. So I went in and told them it would be alright, and they gave me a piece to give to him. Every time we go into the taffy shop, I have to ask for a piece of wildfire for his "free sample". Last time I bought him a small bag of it.

I LOVE the Wildfire Taffy...When I was at OTC over Thanksgiving I saw they had Banana Wildfire Taffy...It was better than the Strawberry...Still like the regular the best....Ate 10 pieces in a row without a drink...
We tried a piece, WHEW!!!! :o
Has anybody tried their Powderkeg variety? I've only seen it there once, but didn't try it. They say they only have it when someone pays for a special order of it.
Rejected flavor #11
-Lake Silver Flotsam (you might have just learned a new word that means floating debris!)
Wildfire Taffy seems like perfect gag gift. Just make sure the person you give it to doesn't usually hold a grudge, or likes to retaliate. ;)
I almost tried the banana wildfire, but I didn't want to spend the rest of the day with a throbbing tounge unable to taste things!
Banana Wildfire is an oddly nice pairing or two unlikely flavors - like an Atomic Fireball wrapped in a Laffy Taffy.
My teaching partner buys Wildfire and "rewards" the kids fourth graders in his class with it. He challenges them to keep in in their mouths for a minute. And the kids love the torture.
I believe the PK taffy was made with cayenne pepper.
Perhaps your fourth grade teacher partner should give out Widlfire taffy to this kids who misbehave. ;)
This thread makes my mouth water! ;D
Alright I am giving in...I am going to try the Banana Wildfire...I cannot stand there being new candies etc. that I haven't tried. I am a glutton for punishment, I am sure I have had hotter things before. I justhave to wait a few more months to get it!
too bad we cant order some taffy in the off season... my wife is screaming because she ran out of her flavor.. LOL. meanwhile i open another zip lock bag and have another piece out of my stash...
So...I found out that giving the school board members wildfire taffy during my board report was not a good idea...we actually had to stop the board meeting as one of the members starting choking and having a hard time breathing...in my defense, I made the disclaimer that it was very hot before they ate it...lol
OK!! Now thats funny!! ;D ;D isnt it?????? :o :o :o :o
Its a lot easier to laugh about since I didn't get fired...I think they took it in "good fun"....
OH :o :o :o :o that would be bad ::) ::) ::). glad all is well..
Anytime you willingly eat a piece of candy named "Wildfire," you are taking your own risk. :-X
every piece should be wrapped in a disclaimer to be signed!! LOL
Don't you have to be 18 to buy it?
I usually make people raise their right hand and take an oath that they will not sue or otherwise seek retribution after eating the taffy! ;D
;D ;D ;D
I gave a piece to a co-worker today. He couldn't finish it. Had to spit it out. Then I had to tell him that my 14-year-old eats them like...well.....candy! :D
hey parson, thats a pretty "wild" story!! :o :o :o
LOL,
sorry had to do it! ::) ::)
^ "rim shot" ;)
;D ;D
You could get your fix of taffy here...I'm guessing it is the same recipe
http://www.dollywoodmerchandise.com/productdetails1.aspx?categoryid=1524&productid=7766 (http://www.dollywoodmerchandise.com/productdetails1.aspx?categoryid=1524&productid=7766)
SDC would make a killing on merchandise with an off season store.
Rube, You are an amazing individual. :D
yes i think SDC could sell alot of item online.... Both off season and on season
Here is another link to a taffy make in salt lake city... rumor has it some of the SDC candy comes from that area. dont know if this is tha actual sorcue or not.
http://www.taffyshop.com/
ok so i didnt use spell check!!!! item (items), make (makers), tha(the), sorcue (source)_....... oh well..??
$6.00 lb at this site vs Dollywood's $8.00 lb. I know the idea of having the taffy you are used to is why someone would pay $2.00 more per lb to get the DW stuff in the off season. I am sure there is better Taffy than SDC, but the idea for me of taking a bag home is always in my head as having a part of the park, when I am not there-despite the fact that I am fully aware that the taffy is not even made on site! I am unsure if this is the supplier for SDC, some of the varieties are similar in look/ design, but there are a couple that do not match. Only one way to find out...Someone needs to buy some and do a side by side taste test.
I think junior, or maybe copper told us that part of the taffy is coming from a supplier in salt lake city..
I only found 2 websites for that.
. I would like to find SDC's supplier.. for off season purchases...
oh well.. :-\
So what flavor would you use for "Fire in the Hole" taffy? "Flooded Mine"? "Lost River"? "Giant Swing"? "American Plunge"?
I don't know about a flavor, but Flooded Mine should be a white taffy base with Black Stripes (but it would end up looking like the black licorice which is not a hit with the kiddos)
They could rename the red/white red licorice to coencide with the targets (If you haven't seen them they are red/ white bullseye type designs/ spiral)
I tried a corner of the stuff and about died of heat-inhaleation. My dad can eat and eat and eat the stuff.......I think he done burned his tounge off!!!
Every piece has a different level of heat as the cinnamon must be distributed unequally. The same is true of Atomic Fireballs.
light me up!
Well it had to happen.. :o
Very sad day in my household :'(
A terrible personal loss for me :'(
I finally ran out of taffy!!!!! :o :o ::) ::)
Did pretty well making it last from OTC, But it is all gone now..
I hope I can make it 3 more weeks..
Condolensces will be accepted, and any memorial donations can be paid to SDC next time your there. ;D
I have 12 pieces of Taffy left in general...gonna be a long month until I can get there!
Taffy has been known to remove a filling or two - I can't allow myself to chew it.
I like living on the edge
count me in.. I think about my dentist with every piece.,, But he does good work!
We should have a taffy potluck sometime. We all purchase our fave flavor (hopefully all different) and then meet on the square plop down somewhere nice and have a potluck. We could do it during the fictitional "SDCFans weekend!"
I'm in on the weekend thing,, figure out how to arrange it, and lets get that going..
Would for sure have to be after school lets out..
How many members are there here? A official get together weekend would be great.
Maybe we could arrainge for a little behind the scenes of Fire in the Hole.
I would love that,

Speaking for experience -- there really isn't that much to see behind the scenes on FitH. You would actually get more from riding through with the lights on then a walking tour.
mhguy- as of tonite, 403 SDCfan members..
If you click on forum page, all the stats are on the bottom left hand corner. /
QuoteYou would actually get more from riding through with the lights on then a walking tour.
Been through with the lights on before, problem is you don't get a feel of the layout and you are still traveling at a speed that you cant catch it all.
I am still jealous of the behind the scenes you tube video.
My research has led me to a place that I believe is the producer of the SDC taffy offered at Phoebe Snapp's. I stubled across a cleverly packaged taffy box about 7 yrs ago in a grocery store here in StL, purchased it and gave it as a gift...Today I saw the same brand in a different package- a bag. It looked exactly the same, but don't most salt water taffies?
*SPOILER ALERT*
**If you do not want to "see behind the curtain" then do not read on**
What led me to my conclusion is the following...
SDC sells boxed taffy in it's store that are made at "Sweet's Candy Company" out of SLC-Utah. The bag I purchased today is in my opinion the same taffy from looks, flavors etc. and the other boxed item I mentioned above from the same company ALSO sold @ SDC even more validates this opinion.
http://www.sweetcandy.com/ (http://www.sweetcandy.com/)
On their website, you will see the boxed taffy and recognize it immediately.
Ichecked that site, they do have our favorite flavors> If we order 5 pounds it comes in at about 6.00 per lb. including shipping..
Shipping was 12.80 for 1 2.5 lb bag.. made it over 20.00, But with the second bag, shipping only went up 1.00.
Thats a fair price probably, but with less than 2 weeks to go. i think i will spend my money at SDC.
they need to pay for HDH somehow!! LOL
My bag was essentially $2.85 a lb. (It was 14oz for $2.49). Granted...I can't make it to SDC for a month or two, so this outta hold me over once my last 7-8 pieces are gone! It isn't exactly the same...but it'll work for now, kinda like looking through SDC photos, it is still fun and all, but it isn't like being there!
Do you think this company makes "Wildfire" Taffy or is that still made in house?
That and several others are made in house. Anything that is long and cylindrical is from SDC.
hey rube! when i pulled up the site. only option it gave was 2 1/2 lbs for 8.95? + the shipping was over 12.00!
therefore over 20.00 for 2 1/2 lbs
how did u get your bag at such a good price. i would order some at that price!!
It was at Schnucks-a large grocery store chain here it StLouis! You can find it at the local candy stores in the mall in the "twist" boxed sets (state fair, Old School, Trade Winds, Coffee Shop, Malt Shop, Fruit Stand, Happy Hour ) There are some bags on the site comparable to what I got, but I don't know how much shipping is.
http://www.sweetcandy.com/candies/taffy/twist.html (http://www.sweetcandy.com/candies/taffy/twist.html)
OH MAN! sorry, i missed the part about you found the candy locally..
thats what happens when i speed read!? I miss important details. My bad!
Thanks for setting me straight! lol
For those of us in OKC, Bass Pro has taffy and candied pecans and fudge. Should help to tide y'all over till the 17th
The Taffy Shop now offers
5 types of Wildfire taffy
- Traditional
- Apple
- Banana
- Blue Raspberry
- Strawberry
I have them purchased but I have not had a chance to try them yet!

Sorry for dragging out an old thread, but as of this weekend I have officially survived Wildfire Taffy! :-X
It definitely has a nice kick to it. However, every time I finish a piece, I get this adrenaline rush to go for some more! ;D
I've been wanting to try that! I'm gonna make it a point to get some next weekend while I'm at SDC!!
I got some of that for my dad and whoooeeeee he said his mouth burned for a week. haha.
That's what I like to hear!! The hotter the better! Seriously, I put Tabasco sauce on everything!!
I kinda understand Banana Wildfire, but Blue Raspberry?...blech!
Yeah I stuck to just plain Wildfire Taffy. I wanted the true, authentic experience for my first taste. Next time, I am going to try the other flavors ;D
In the summer when I went to the park with my buddy who is currently stationed in Qatar, he got a HUGE bag of taffy, and commented "why are those behind the counter" after the workers explanation I hear "2 please". We both tossed them in our mouths, and I must have chewed a bit faster, or knew what was coming having had them before...very soon after my pain set in, he followed whimpering and laughing at the same time saying "how can it be so hot???" It was a good day before he shipped out, and it was a great memory...not the painful burning mouth feeling, but the laughing. I am smiling right now just thinking about it. Good Luck Tiiffanylynnt...have a beverage nearby!
Maybe I'll pair it with some homemade ice cream!
I gave a piece to an uncle which he reluctantly tried. I just loved seeing his face scrunch up, while he tried to chew it. :D
Wanted to revisit this old topic....
When I went last April I bought a pound and a half of taffy, I went to work that day and when I came home my stepdaughter and her boyfriend had eaten it all.
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
I got one piece on the way home, and that was it!!!
Next time I'll be ready.
hehehehehee
okie.. sounds like you need 1 1/2 pounds of your favorite taffy, and then put a layer of Wildfir on top.!!! That might fix the cure the situation!
I purchased traditional wildfire taffy for my daddy and gave one to my husband. He spit it out after about 10 chews and complained it burned. Even his inner earholes didnt survive the heat. :D

I tried it once and barely survived. More than inner earholes didn't survive the heat! Fire In The Hole shot through all four cardinal directions of my body!! Tiffany, keeping that beverage close by is the best advice you're ever going to get!
I'll be there Thursday. I'm getting nervous about trying it!
You'll be fine Tiff! :)
There is a lot of hype about Wildfire Taffy, but after the first adrenaline rush it isn't too bad. I think it's just the extra cinnamon that makes it "hot.'
I like hot stuff, so maybe I'm already trained.

You are correct. There are no added spices. It's just a basic taffy recipe that's made on-park. And then they add about 1/3 cup of pure cinnamon oil to it.

Don't believe him, Tiff! You've been warned!! :o :o :o :o
I say BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!! Burned earholes are not something to take lightly!!!
I imagine ozark likes the fire BBQ sauce too :P
YEP! Burned earholes and a four direction body explosion! DON'T DO IT, TIFF!
Yep it hurts so good! Have the Sioux City ready and waiting!

I do actually!
If I am not sniffling, and gagging, and dripping in sweat then it isn't up to my standards. ;)
I bought a whole bag of it. It made me cry and my sister's boyfriend chewed it a couple of times then swallowed it whole. He couldn't feel his tongue for about an hour!
I found a trick: Eat it tiny bite by tiny bite and it's not so bad!
Tiff, It will make it last a lot longer too ;)
Way to go Tiff! ;D
It's not too bad. It definitely kicks, but it is doable. My relatives were at Silver Dollar City this weekend, and are going to bring me my own bag.

Yeah, but you don't get it all at once ;)
Okay, I take back what I said! My father went to Silver Dollar City last week, and brought me a bag full of Wildfire Taffy. Wow! I had forgotten just how intense it was. :-X ;D
It gets less and less intense the more pieces you have. My hope is to train myself to where its not extremely intense so I can show off when I take my friends to SDC this summer. ;)
That's a good idea! I always trick myself because when I first put a piece in my mouth I am like "this isn't so bad." Then as I continue to chew I think "well it is a little bit hot." Then just before I swallow I shout "my tongue is on fire!" ;D

That is exactly what happens to me when I put the whole thing in my mouth!!
I am giving my Daddy his WF Taffy today. I told him its going to put blisters on his moustache! He doesnt believe me.
Good luck Trams!
Now it's time for Ozark BBQ's Tip of the Day. When a friend challenges you to eat 25 pieces of Wildfire Taffy in a single setting, DON'T do it!
That was two days ago and my tongue is still raw, and blistered! It hurts to drink, eat, and even breath through my mouth. Ouch! I never knew something as simple as cinnamon could literally burn the inside of your mouth so badly. :-X
HOLY COW, OZARK! You'll be considered a hero in these parts after that! I can't get one piece down without screaming! You should win an award!!
A boy from my church tried a piece. He's going through his 'macho man' phase and he said the heat didn't bother him, but you can't hide watery eyes and a beat red face!! ;)
