Anyone seen some'a this stuff? Both items were found at thrift stores.
A few more to come.. :)
Nice photos. Ask RUBE DUGAN'S to post some of his collection here. You will be blown away.
So it is official, for some reason I cannot see How-do's photos...
Yes I have an ever growing collection of now...700-800 items...I love seeing others items so I can know what to look for on my quests!
Thanks Junior. I bet Rube D. has stuff i aint never seen before.
Thats mess'd up Rube, i just tried to PM them to ya but it wont work either.
The shirt is my all time favorite, it is from the late 90s.
The bumper sticker of Indian Point Campground is very old. It was above the door in my grandmothers chicken coop when i was 10+, ( that'd be 1975 ) it lay'd on the ground for years till my brother & i finally picked it up & brought it in. We had the ol' chicken coop demolished last year, that is why we snagged it.
My brother has arrived with stuff!! ;D
Here's some pages of the picture book, it had no copywrite date on it that i can find. Only 1 page was to big, i will take another pic of it & try again.
Enjoy!
From the photos above, it appears the book you got at the Hospitality House was produced by SDC, not some outside entity. These are public relations shots from the past I've not seen. Obvious the description and words are "public relations" material from years past. I'd really love to snag one of these books. If anyone has a chance to pick up an extra copy at the Hospitality House, I'd be willing to send them a check for a book! Send me a private message if you can get one! Thanks. :)
I just bought this book from my brother for $20.00. All i can find is something that says - Widders Printing & Lithography. And the map in the back has a signature that says - Steve Miller.
Sorry my picture taking sucks, we dont have a scanner. I just take a shot with my video camera, upload'm to my computer & put'm on here.
2 more..
the map is the coolist!!
the 4 people are sis' on the left, my woman sittin' down, me on the right, & my brother is the hillbilly. the other is just my girl & i.
Alright so I accessed the website from another computer (mac) and I was able to see the attachments! Great boook there. Much different than the one I have from a year later!
I am easy to confuse...the book you brought from your brother for $20...I'm guessing now upon review this is something OLD from probably the 1960's...maybe an old SDC guidebook you have? I think it would be absolutely great if the park would produce a big book that contained the full contents of all the old SDC guidebooks over the years! We could see in pictures and words how the park developed over the years.
Oh, THANKS for the photos! Blurry or not, they are great to see. Question: I saw on the city map in this booklet that in the early days, there was a "Hain'ted House." Anybody know about that? Slantin' Sams is listed, too. So they had to be different attractions. I also saw the carriage rides and the mule swing were in the same location. My, things have changed. I really enjoyed the aerial shot, pre mine/mill restaurant days.
Thanks you guys!
Junior - all it says is Souvenir Picture Album, it has alot of names of the people that are in the pictures. And in 1 pic they are delivering silver dollars to the City.
I'll ask my pa about Slantin' Sams & Hain'ted House to see if he remembers.
Rube - glad ya finally got to see the pics, i know it was prob'ly drivin' ya crazy..
Tin-type pic is metal, it was in Sept of 1987 with my parents.
The ring says OUTLAW, & is made of copper, i can not remember when i got it. But i know i was'a kid cuz it used to be my "CB handle."
Marvel Cave pic from 1976
Marvel Cave pic from 1998
I'm sure the old booklet you have was sold in the general store and hospitality house, probably way back in the early to mid 1960's. Thanks again for all the photos. And yes, I'd like to know more about the haunted house.
very cool map.. hard for me to imagine the park that small......
COOL IDEA!!!! :o :o :o :o A collectors book that has pictures of maps from every year.. and maybe a couple of pages of pics of mods to buildings/attractions year to year...
Now that woulkd have been a great 50th them for a book!
Been there, tried that. I had a large quantity of pages completed, and was told with all of my objects, and artwork, that the Herschends' have a large quantity of archives and there will be a webpage to share memories. thanks for the interest...needless to say I was a bit frustrated, but I'll get back to it! Hopefully this winter/ spring!
Here's my dads story, & i see why we keep going to SDC to this day.
His family would go trout fishing in Branson in 1954 when he was 12, his mother & him would shop around also. In 1959 he went to Rockaway Beach with his buddies to find ladies at a senior dance, he graduated in 1960. He married my mom in 1962 & thats when they went to SDC for their honeymoon & got this picture book. So i guess thats the year it is from.
He dont remember the Haunt'd house, but Slantin' Sams was just a lil' building that made ya feel like it was crooked when it really wasnt. Water flowed backwards, if i am correct, i recall a pool table with a ball that rolled up-hill. Anyone remember that?
I got more pics of SDC if ya'll wanna see'm.... Green trams - 1st ones in the park'n lot - on-ride shots, got'a good one on Wildfire upside down. Just let me know, i'd love to share'm.
Post all those photos! I wanna see anything ya got along those lines! :)
Ok. Give me afew days & i'll get'm all set-up. As for now, here's us on Wildfire head'n up the first hill, taken with a cheapy throw away camera with 800 speed film. I used to sneak'm on the ride.. And, 1 of my girl & i with my paremts in line for Powderkeg, this is one of my favorite pics of my parents.
Rube, don't shelve that project. I hope you are able to get it printed and released. I want a copy!
Not shelved! With my arm in a cast...it leaves me more time to work on that over the Holiday break!
Here we are somewhere in the park. We wear these hats when we wanna look like rookie SDC'rs. :D
Thunderation coming out'a the tunnel
I really enjoy seeing these vacation photos from SDC. I like looking at how the park has changed over the years. Funny to see how fashions have changed, too!
Thanks Junior, here's more.. Some'a the pics were over 400 KB, i'll try some other stuff.
The 1 pic is Wildfire ofcourse, & DID NOT alter it in any way, it was taken when we were upside down. Look at the front'a the coaster & the harness's. I just got lucky.
The other is at the top of the hill of either Wildfire or Powderkeg. Beautiful.... :)
more..
more.. the pic with Catfish was taken before the park open'd, it was the time we saw him on his moped.. i dont have my perscription glass's on cuz i had a horrifying crash on the go-carts the night before & the got destroyed.
more..
Always nice to see new photos from SDC. Thanks!
love the pic of the old trams..
Green Trams!!!! Awesome. Fire in the hole pic was pretty cool too
Thanks everyone!
The tram pic was early in the mornin', & us being race fans, the 3 wide reminded me of the Indy 500. And FITH was of my sister & her x-boyfriend, & my mother & my brother.
more..
How-Do, your gonna have to put together your own SDC trip booklet, and make it available to all of us sdcfans.com!! :) Love that stagecoach shot!
Thank you Junior, i am glad you are enjoying them so much cuz i'm havin' a blast showing all of'm. ;) I still have more pics to go..
The 1 pic of me by the car is when we were the 1st ones in the parkin' lot, it was prob'ly 7'ish in the morning after a 4 hour drive.. And, that car now has 208,000 miles on it!! :o
The ball was from Guyser Gulch, it roll'd right up to us ( like take me home.. ) while we was sittin' there watch'n kids play.
more..
Believe it or not, the lil' lady stand'n next to Mr. Big Guy is 26 yrs old with 3 kids! Its my fiance's daughter.
The one pic is on FITH
more..
Keep 'em coming, How-Do, and I encourage anyone else with some nice photos of SDC to post them here, too. After a few more days, all we will have of SDC until March is memories...The sign out front the park will say "Closed."
STOP IT JUNIOR!!! >:( >:( :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
more..
Over 50 vacation photos from you so far How-do...nice job.
Yip, i got about 20 left. These are all pics taken with a throw away camera from 2004 - 2008.
The older gal was burning in Silver Dollar City in my brothers log & axe that he bought.
2 shots in my parents RV on the way down there, dig my ol' ladys look on her face !! LOL!
more..
Mom & i at SDC in Sept. of 1987. Dig the bellbottoms! :D
Ma & Pa on Powderkeg! They loved it, i could hear my dad laughin' thru the whole ride.
These ol' railings look like railroad tracks.... ??? Its on the way to Wildfire.
more..
Bob Hope's old theme song was "Thanks for the Memories." I suppose in this case, with all your family photos of SDC, we can say, "Thanks for YOUR memories!" :)
You know it Junior, Thanks! Here's more..
The Homestead Picker dude on the right actually yelled out "PICTURE!" right before i took this pic, it was hilarious.
more..
great pics...
Thanks, heres more..
well THANKS a lot how-do... Now i am hungry.. those big skillets do that every time!
Those condos on Indian Point (Looking thorough glass window at the church) are NOT IN THEME! WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE REMOVE THEM! It was bad enough seeing speedboats zip across the water on the lake when I was a kid...kind of ruined the effect of the Harvey Water Clock!

I feel your pain since they are on an eye sore, even from Wildfire.
Anyway, thanks for sharing the interesting pictures How-doFolks! You really did a good job of capturing the various gems throughout the park. It is amazing how much the park has changed in just a few short years. ;D
Great round of pics, How-Do! There is so much that you could almost piece together the park! :D
Thanks everybody !! That 1 pic was taken on top of one of the hills of Powderkeg or Wildfire, i cant remember..
We are still finding stuff, plus i have learned how to downsize my pics alil'. So i will try to upload more pics & stuff. The toothpick next to the hillbilly IS from SDC.
The one thing I really enjoy about Silver Dollar City is the genuine, and authentic souvenirs you can take home! Then again, you had me hooked with the first picture of the Sarsaparilla. ;)
i need to upload some more pics, i'm out.. shame on me !
give me afew days & i'll bust out some more.
More great pictures thanks for sharing! :) However, on that last picture, is the girl on the left sitting down, or has she just been blessed with shorter "jeans" (genes)? ???
She is just short, 4' 11", about 100 pounds. She is my g'friends daughter, 26 with 3 kids believe it or not. My girlfriend is 5' 4" with short legs, & this girls father was 5' 4" also & very stocky. So, i can see why she is so short. She can reach thru the restraints on Wildfire & wave at ya!! :o I have it on video. Our avatar on here was taken at Christmas, we had to squat just to make it look right.
Well it sounds like you have a really fun, and wonderful family. :) I love the picture of the two train engines. The Frisco sure is photogenic isn't it?
Hey, it doesn't matter how short someone is, as long as their legs can reach the ground! (LOL)
ma's 5'5" pa's 5'2" sis is 5'1.5" I somehow ended up 5'6"!
Ok, i have downsized more pics so they will work on here. So please excuse the fuzzyness again. ::)
The iron skillett we use as a ashtray, anyone remember the ol' - lil' SDC ashtray skilletts they used to sell ? my parents had one way back when.
My walkin' stick.
Nice additions How-doFolks!
The picture of the family on Wildfire is really cool. It looks like everyone was ready for the big loops. As far as the ashtray skillets, it seems like I do remember something similar to that. Of course I love tradition iron skillets! The Fire in the Hole tee shirt totally rocks. Also, I might need to barrow your walking stick on cardiac hill. ;)
Thanks Ozark! I got really good at holdin' my hand out & snapin' shots with them cheap'o cameras.
Here, enjoy some more..
more great shots! thanks again ;D
No problem. Here, i'll slam some more from the park in Sept of 1987
Okay, I am scratching my head a bit here, but was the first picture taken from the steps of the Waterboggan?
Thanks for the classic pictures of our favorite park. :)
yip. notice, no crossing gate what so ever. i guess back in the those days we were responsible for ourselves to look both ways. :D
more.. about 50 more pics to come & thats all folks !! ;)
i dont wear hats, but, this is the hat i wear when it rains anywhere, keep it in the trunk of my car.

Whoa! I didn't notice that on my first take. That is unbelievable! Although I am supportive of the gate, it just proves that we live in an increasingly padded world. :P
Also, very nice contemporary tee shirt. As far as the hat, there is nothing wrong with showing some Silver Dollar City pride during a rainstorm! ;)
Thanks again Ozark, the t-shirt letters LOOK like leather but are not. I am really enjoying posting these pictures, i never realized how many i had!
more of my womans t-shirts, i think she has more than i do!! but, when my get too small i give them to her.
saloon girl from 1987
and the last pic was taken in 1998 when about 15-20 of us went. from left to right -- my neice cj - my daughter in the overalls & short hair - 2 other kids that went with us - me with the long hair, tie-die t-shirt & long grey socks - & my pa to the right of me.
How Do, you are like me, you saved everything from your visits to SDC. I even saved the paper bags shopkeepers put my merchandise in at one time! (LOL)
I have bags from Marvel Cave Park-White with red print, SDC 1980's bags, and modern 21st century bags (these newer bags have the SDC web address on the bag and are easy to date). Funny how weird we all are!
what i want to know, is how did u have the foresight to save all this info?
all the photos/pathfinders and so on?.
I never even considered saving it all :'(
Since the early 80's I have been an SDC Pack Rat. It would allow me to think about the place when I wasn't there. We would get home and store our items/ unpack, I would always keep my reciepts, tickets, bags etc. I have to thank my parents for allowing me to keep "trash/ junk" mostly because my Dad saved a good amount from before I was old enough to think about such things. I have searched nearly everywhere i go for SDC ephemera, and what I have not saved, others thankfully have.
Thank goodness for your dad, Rube. He took alot of photos and those are the ones we all cherish today. Thanks again for posting! ;D
You all have inspired me to start my own Silver Dollar City collection! I wish as a kid I would have saved all of the souvenirs I came across, but at least now I have a solid start. ;D
If you have deep pockets and want to find old, old stuff from SDC, check out Ebay. Several collectors on this site found some pretty good stuff that way. Me, I cannot afford to do that, plus my wife would kill me. She thinks I spend too much time remembering "the old days" at this site anyway, and it's free. ;)
more..
we have a few SDC paper bags & receipts from stuff we'v bought but we always replace'm with the ones from the next year. heck, i got ol' nails & tree wood from just walkin' around the park, & cedar shavin's too. get some'a that stuff on ya'r next trip & lay it around the house.. 8) sand it alil' & the smell comes back. ;)
SDC has just been a part of my life & i guess it really flowed into my heart & soul as a kid, i missed out on City from the early 80s ( cuz'a being homeless, & other stupid stuff.. ) till one trip in 87 & then not till 1998. from 1990 to 2000 was spent as a crewman on a race team. so really, in the last 7 years i'm finally gettin' back into going again. we just order'd our passes for this year over the weekend!
good for u how do... this year will be great!
yes it will sanddunerider. i wouldnt call it burn-out but we know every inch of SDC, its just a place we love to go when we want our minds to be blank yet very fullfill'd.
here's more.. enjoy. the 1 pic is the open'n to the cave just as you get in. sweet..
Everyone looks like they are having a really great family time at Silver Dollar City! The cave entrance picture definitely adds a new perspective which is really neat.
thats right how-do.... i get down into that area (branson/SDC). even though i have my company phone with me, i can relax and enjoy myself.. Cant do that at home..

the picture of the FITH dog is the one that pass'd away a couple of years ago. :(

I've always loved those benches around the trees. Such a great spot to relax and enjoy a soft frozen lemonade on a hot summer day.
yes! I love the benches. i can easily sit there for a while and just watch people walk by.. No problem...
yip, we do alot'a people watchin' now too. 8)
more..
Are those benches still there in the middle?
I am thinking they are gone now.
i think so too..
Actually they are gone as the parade goes right through there.
I guess removing the trees eluded us.
They have a commitment to replacing trees but I think they do so with pines and furs, not deciduous trees that are native to the area. If you look around you will see this happening.
Some of them are still there. I know of at least 3.

my brother & his 2 boys showing up for a day of fun

Thanks sandrider. These are all the pics i have left, glad afew of ya have enjoyed them all.
