Just saw the NBC News tonight...Celebration, FL (A Disney property) had it's first murder in it's sixteen year existence. Also, SWAT Teams were called in to a 16 hour standoff at a home there. However, Celebration officials say it's still a safe place to live. Only a handful of burglaries in the last couple of years, and virtually no violent crime. A woman who lives in Celebration was quoted as saying that many people who moved there over the last 16 years thought they were going to get "Main Street USA" and instead have found out it's like any other place to live. When my wife, daughter, and I visited Orlando in 1996, Celebration had just been built, and it looked like the picture perfect place to live...if you had the money. Located near the Disney parks, and in the heart of all the fun stuff to do in the area.
thats a shame.. But you know it was bound to happen eventually. :'(
Celebration is FORMER Disney property. They no longer "own" it.
Thanks for the correction, Swoosh. :)
Some new headlines about the murder case...Internet reports say the man killed was 58 years old. His stolen car was found in a community quite some distance from Celebration. Sounded like police were ready to make an arrest. Comments from other Celebration residents were they were concerned about this first murder case, but still feel their community is one of the safest, best ones to live in. Houses range from a quarter of a million dollars to five million dollars. Pretty high end.
Saw a newspaper article today. Said Celebration has twice the level of houses on the market for similar areas of the country. It said people are finding it hard to pay the mortgage. Economic times have been hard, even in that upscale community.
A 28 yr old homeless man was arrested and charged with the killing of the 58 year old Celebration resident.
