I've always wanted to ride the sphere thing around the Wildfire track.
I'd like to see Fire in the Hole with the lights on.
I'd like to spend the night in Marvel Cave.
Does anyone else have any "fantasies" (Keep 'em clean.) that involve SDC?
Whenever I was younger I always dreamed of living at the park and going to school at the school and church at the church, and then I could ride the rides in my spare time.
I want to get married in the Cathedral Room of Marvel Cave.
An overnight stay in Marvel Cave would be AWESOME!
~ "Becky" Joy ~
I wish that there were more opportunities to ride he coasters in the dark. I know that SDC would steal the profits from CC if they ever stayed open late. . . but it would be cool if I could ride when it was warm and dark.
How about watching (or riding) the hot air balloons in the Cathedral Room?
^^ You know, I missed seeing the balloons in the Cathedral Room for July 4th in the mid-90's by ONE day. :(
Another fantasy of mine is to see face characters of Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, and Becky Thatcher in a refurbished Tom Sawyer Landing. I'd also love to see a Mark Twain impersonator doing some sort of show (similar to what they have at the Mark Twain cave in Hannibal).
And as a part of that fantasy, I would totally love to portray Becky Thatcher... :D

I really want them to bring back a lot of the old characters that used to roam the parks, complete with their shows. For example, Geyser Gulch was supposed to have a full cast of characters playing in shows and roaming around the area, but alas, the budget was cut.
Actually BEING one of the characters for a day would be fun. A friend of mine and I once instigated an impromptu Christmas show on an empty stage behind the gazebo. We even pulled people out of the audience to sing carols with us, and then commenced to tell them they were on Candid Camera. OK, so we were naughty, but we didn't get caught.
We also like to start the carolling on the rides:
On Fire-in-the-Hole, we like to sing "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire", and for some reason "Rudolph" is always the one we sing on ThuNderaTion. Wildfire always hears our "12 Days of Christmas". It's always better when we can get the whole ride to sing along! Ocassionally we'll even circle back to ride something for a second time and catch the employees trying to get a song going. Are we the ones who started the sing-along train rides?
I've never thought to do carols on rides, but that sounds FUN!!!
~ "Becky" Joy ~
People do look at us funny. Once, we even got a "three idiots singing" during our "12 Days" rendition (He was joking.).
Ever wanted to get the boat to completely flip over and land upright on the Waterboggan?
^Yes!! I've always thought that would be so awesome! I do get kind of scared when I go on that ride that our boat is going to fly right off the track though.
Has anyone besides me ever dreamed of living in the city? I used to dream of that all the time.

I've slept over on a stage or two in the past after working late. Trust me, its wierd. Not only does the energy and emotion from all day linger, making it hard to sleep, but the place is over run with skunks! ;D
Oh are you serious? I didn't need to know that. Lol
I once stayed overnight at the Henry Doorly Zoo with a church group, getting a night tour of parts of the zoo, and I think it was one of the coolest experiences ever.
An overnight group event at SDC would be SOOOOO cool. Ride rides at night, have the park all to yourself. Gosh, how cool would that be? Maybe camp-out in tents in Main Street or over in the Homestead area... :D
~ "Becky" Joy ~
I kept looking at people Saturday, thinking, That could be Copper? Is that Becky Joy?
Here's one fantasy we could probably work out. Don't fan clubs often get special access to performers? Then maybe we could push to get an official SDCFans Weekend, complete with a special pin from Pin Traders, a behind the scenes tour and overnighting in a special location of the City - maybe down under in Marvel Cave. What else could be a part of this package?
^That would be awesome!! I have to admit I would be scared to sleep in Marvel Cave though. I like Joy's idea of sleeping in tents in the homestead area much better. ::)
That would be so fun though....and so hard to get accomplished. Plus not all of us would be able to get there together. This is the fantasy thread though.
And maybe we would all get special night time rides of any of the coasters we wanted!! This is exciting to think about.
I think it could really happen, though they would have to assign us a chaperone. Maybe an owner would give us a speech following our meal in the Mine. I doubt they would keep employees just so we can ride alone, though. Besides, we ride after dark for Christmas anyway (although the complete darkness would be cool and the Waterboggan would be downright frightening. To make this work, we would have to keep their cost down, and I don't want to have to pay much for the privilege (though am willing to pay). It would be more of a courtesy for all involved parties.
A yearly event would mean we could stay in different places each time.
A lot of people would want to join the site so they can get in for the special event also. It would be fun.
Here is one that came true!
One year back when the city closed in late Oct., Bruce Herschend invited me and a few others to a SDC shootout. It involved getting the street show guns (Real) and a bag of 100 blanks (the old style really loud ones)and hunting each other over the entire park. Just us and no rules! The day ended with a Bolivian style mowdown as me, the last standing member, made a run after being trapped on the Ice Cream Parlor roof.
When I used to work in the park, I fantasized about living there, which was probably a good thing since it enhanced the storyline. We (The Candy Factory kids) would run all over the park and give people directions during our lunch hour fully pretending we lived in the city. We would even attend the Sunday morning service at the Wilderness Chapel in our SDC costumes then head to work. It was great!! Everyone there took such pride in the city.
One night I stayed afterwards and took an "off the beaten path" tour of Marvel Cave with an official cave guide "cousin" which required us to literally crawl on our bellies through mud and "you know what" through some really small passages and was honestly pretty unsafe. We came out somewhere in the woods outside of the park over by where the Young Life cabins are next to the service entrance.
When I was little I loved Little House on the Prairie and always wanted to live in Walnut Grove. Going to Silver Dollar City kind of made that fantasy real for me as a kid. I think that's why I love the place so much. I've always, always, always wanted to go inside all of Grandfather's rooms. My dad got to go up on stage at the Saloon show five years ago. That was one of his fantasies.
I grew up going to Branson at least twice a summer with my family. We loved the couple of days a summer we would get to spend at Silver Dollar City. I grew up wanting to live in the town. Now coming back with my kids and my grandkids is like coming home. It is the most relaxing vacation we take. (We love going to Disney World and Sarasoto but it is not the same for me.) I have now made plans for my retirement, even if it is several years away). When I get to the point where I can retire I plan to try out for train conductor. I would love to have that job.
^I have also fantasized a few times about becoming train conductor. Perhaps many years down the road when I retire I can try out as well.
I had a period of working for 38 hours straight one day. Does that count for spending the night?
You guys talk about moving to the area and coming there to work when you retire from your regular careers, and hundreds of SDC empolyees have done just that. I've thought about that many times myself. But after working there most of my adult life, what are my options for retirement? Keep working there? Or should I move to the city and find a job in an office somewhere to supplement my retirement income. Interesting dilemma.
I guess those of you wanting to ride the rides at night know about Moonlight Madness coming up in August? On the 18th - 20th, the park will be open 4pm -10pm. These were originally days on which the park was going to be closed. Rides will be running at night, course it doesn't really start getting dark til about 8:30 or so. As a reminder, there will be no shows on these days.
Ah ha! I see the "Moving away from it all" post I had posted a few days ago had already creeped into the psyche of the SDCFans! LOL! :D
Can you imagine the serenity and tranquility of walking around SDC at night when it's closed?!?! Peace at it's finest!
Frogs chirping.
Lightning bugs flashing.
Could you stand the peace? Or would you still want those rocks to be singing?
I'll tell ya', Buff.....I am trying to actually wrap my mind around the possibility of being there overnight. The sheer peace and romance (with that special someone) could be something that you carry for the rest of your life!
It's a little creepy, but fun creepy!!! When I worked in the cave we would clean into the night and get out round 1 or 2 am.
I wonder if they might make some cash by offering a romantic package after hours.
Have they ever considered putting a hotel adjacent to the park? Disney has hotels and resorts all around their parks? Would it work at SDC? Then you can have all the "overnight" stays there you want...as long as your pocketbook holds out.
Not only is that a natural extension of the property, but it could also be used to block views to the outside world.
I would love the experience of staying in the park overnight, Not as much for the "nighttime" feelings, more for the sunrise.
Staying at the park overnight is one of my SDC fantasies. I think it would be fun! One of my other fantasies is to walk through FiTH with all of the lights out.
Having been on park at night I can tell you...it's pretty dark. Unless they have upgraded lighting around the place over the years, and my guess is they have to some extent since they now have moonlight madness and the christmas thing primarily at night. I mostly remember what you have gotta watch out for is skunks and other critters that come out at night to eat the food and drinks the guest have left behind. I explained on another thread one of my most scary experiences at the old float trip...came in early one morning to clean, and heard scratching noises in a trash can. I just knew it was a skunk. I took the trash can to the edge of the dock, kicked it over, and ran...I got lucky, it was a chipmunk...and he was happy to be set free!
I would not want a hotel on park, or that colse to the park. I think it would take away from the ambiance of the area. It isn't like Indian Point and the 76 strip is THAT far away!
Ya all mention'd all the good ones. But, being a race fan, i've always liked to see go-carts in SDC. I know it really wouldnt fit in, but it is a fantasy of mine.
They did have the 19th century version there in the 80's and they were a blast! The Gandy dancers!!!!!
I dont remember that ride. I saw the pictures on here. 1983 - 1989 was'a bad part'a my Life. Did make it to City 1 time with my parents in Sept. of 1987 tho'.
I would make a great train robber or character roamin' the streets. For 1, i dont like to shave. For 2, i dont think alot'a people now-a-days like to be hassle'd while they are at the park. My girlfriend & brother would make great hillbillys, they's both kinda short on teeth.. :D
Boy the girlfriend is going to give you grief over that one. I would make a good mother Hayfield or McCoy - I like to entertain people I do not know and I would not need much padding if any. Plus my girls say I can be a little or a lot grumpy at times too.

A totally themed hotel with a themed backside butting against the park (not so folks could come out on their balconies and watch the park) could be cool and could block the scenery of a parking lot or a highway if strategically placed. If not that close, then a trainride away, just like Disney does with a monorail. I see themed rooms and a convention center as distinct possibilities.

Hey History Buff Silver Dollar City is a family park! I don't care how themed that "backside" is I don't want it "butting" up against the park.
Just kidding. That sentence struck me as funny at nearly midnight. This sounds like it would make great sense both aesthetically and financially for the park.
Hopefully that didn't bring up any unpleasant images for you. I wonder what the backside could be themed as - maybe the ice house?
Also, it could certainly have a highbrow restaurant.
Highbrow Ozark food? Ain't that one a' them oxy-morons?
How'd ya know? That's the name of the restaurant: "Oxy-morons on the Knob".
Some of you have seen me say this before.....but when I am really under stress or a lot of tension and am about to scream, I wish I could just go to a closed SDC with lawnchair in hand, go dead center of the park or find a nice storefront or porch and just sit right down and not care about anything except soaking up the atmosphere! Maybe have access to a one eatery where I can grab a snack and pop and just watch the day pass.
Ahhhh...bliss!
My fantasy would be to have the ability to travel through SDC history. To see the place as it first was and at 5 year intervals through the years, give me half a day to explore each half decade.
Old photo's of the park interest me and even seeing the park as it was when I first visited in the 70's would really be neat.
Time Travel SDC, that would be a cool deal indeed.
Have a conversation with Mary ...................
Wow! I like the fantasy in the previous posting...may I borrow it, please?
You did ask nicely so if you pack some Bologna sandwiches, corn chips and some grape soda you can go along with me.
:o
;)
The frightening part of that trip is that at one point I might actually bump into myself at one of the attractions! Wow, that might cause some "Back to the Future" time shift thing, and the WHOLE WORLD WOULD BE SUCKED INTO A BLACK HOLE! AHHHHHHHHHH!
I think we would ALL bump into our previous selves. (memo to remind myself not to take the rope swing and fall off like I did in 1983)
I (my eight year old child-self) would probably not even notice myself, as I would've been too busy making striped candles and running through Herman's treehouse, to notice myself noticing myself. (??!!!)
"Doc Brown: I foresee two possibilities. One: coming face to face with herself thirty years older would put her into shock and she'd simply pass out. Or two: the encounter could create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worst-case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy."
I would run into myself at the Greedy Bros. playground that sat in Lake Silver-or- at the Gandy Dancers.
You guys would probably be alright as long as you didn't touch your other self. Being out of phase time-wise, you would cancel each other out if you touched.
I want to play my fiddle in silver dollar city. This has always been one of my fantasies. I would like to be a street performer like they used to have on the front side of the Hospitality house. I sorta got to play there once in 1995. THis lady was making violins and she let me play hers. That was pretty awesome.
The lady making violins was probably Violet Hensley...a legend in fiddlemaking from Arkansas. I think she may be the only craftsman who has participated in every fall crafts fair at SDC since it began.

Well you could always just sneak a fiddle in, and find you a shady tree somewhere, and start playing! ;) Actually Silver Dollar City is always looking for new talent, and visiting musicians. You should contact their performance department, and see what doors they have to open.
You don't have to sneak it in. Lots of people take in instruments and play with the Homestead Pickers.
I thought it would be fun to work there. But then I know how hot the summers get. But being a performer would be sweet!!! Just really hot in the costumes which would be lousy!!

Okay, wait, how does working at Silver Dollar City automatically equal working in a stuffy costume in the middle of a hot summer? :P
They have several indoor shows, and attractions too. :)
because dear O-BBQ, I cant sing myself outta paper bag so working in a nice theater is out. And I love people. the more I can touch and entertain the better. I would adore being a character on the road. I am tellin ya the more smiles I get the bigger me ego gets. ;) But alas I cant afford to live in the great town of Branson or surrounding area.
