Why Do We Continue To Go To Silver Dollar City?

ByCoaster

It never really changes. Sure we'll get to enjoy a new ride every other year or so. But every time you make a visit to the city when you walk through the gates you'll smell the aroma of freshly baked cookies or the smell of the just made cinnamon rolls. You'll see the saloon girls dancing or the ole' Frisco Silver Dollar Line tootin' away. But most of all, you feel the spirit that is Silver Dollar City.

"Silver Dollar City has a Spirit. It feels solid, and like it has a real history, because it does. For a hundred years and more people have come to that hilltop to experience something different in their lives. From the first cave explorers, the miners and their families, the Lynches and there tourists, the arrival of the Herschend's and their desire to build something unique, through to the present day, this is a genuine Experience. No other theme park can touch this. Go to Disney, Six Flags, etc. and look at the Employees. Does that smile reach their eyes? Do they seem genuinely glad to be there?" --Posted by Old Guy in forums

"For me, it is the feeling of "comin' home again". Somehow I feel like I belong there more than any other place on earth. Sometimes I wonder if I was born in the wrong century?"--Posted by Tinaalsgirl in forums

"I don't know if Silver Dollar City is a part of us, or if we are a part of Silver Dollar City. It transcends amusement parks. It is the quintessential theme park. It may be one reason I enjoyed taking vacations with my parents, unlike many of my friends. i grew up visiting Silver Dollar City with my parents, and now I'm experiencing its magic all over again with my daughter. Ironically, Silver Dollar City never gets old for the true fan. It is a thing of value, with treasures to be found in all its nooks and crannies. It is a place of enchantment. Silver Dollar City is for the family. It is first-rate. It appeals to all members of the family. Who doesn't spread a smile across his face watching the elderly couple walking hand-in-hand across Main Street? Who doesn't leak laughter watching young children trapsing through the water fountains in Geyser Gulch or eating their first funnel cake? Who doesn't get a warm feeling when the Christmas Parade sweeps by in celebration of the season? We've watched the lye thicken, the iron redden, the glass expand. Pots, baskets, and candles take shape, along with the minds, hearts, and spirits of the visitors to this engaging place."--Posted by Dale in forums

"I have no idea what it is specifically that keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the overwhelming charm of the place, maybe it's the great new expansions, maybe it's that there's always more to do, or maybe it's the wonderful memories 3 generations of my family have shared there since it opened as a cave attraction. I dunno, I've just always felt that I need to keep coming back, like the place is some special part of my family history."--Posted by shavethewhales in forums

All of us keep going back to Silver Dollar City for virtually the same reason: To experience the feeling that Silver Dollar City gives you at least one more time. There is a spirit to the place that draws you back. Whether it be the citizens or just the place itself, it draws you in and makes you feel like family.

It is a place for families, kids, teenagers, grandpa, grandma, and even Uncle Gus! Silver Dollar City is a place for everyone--a place you can always enjoy more than once.

Oh, by the way, if you have any photos of anything that has been fixed up/changed at SDC, the rest of us would sure appreciate to see them. Post in the Forums or e-mail me at bob@sdcfans.com

I am always hit with a feeling of coming home when I return to SDC.  It is hard to describe why I feel this way.  I have lived in the Kansas City area for nearly 30 years and I started going down on a regular basis in 1982.  As you know, KC has Worlds and Oceans of Fun-but they have never compared to the total package that is SDC.  The food is better, the atmosphere is better, a higher quality of souvenirs is available, but the people who work there make the park stand out above others.  So I am biased...that's just the way it is.

I continue to go to silver dollar city because it's always changing. Six different festivals, six different parks. And if that isn't enough change, it depends on who we go with. My wife and me, it's show time. With my sister and brother and law, shows and rides. Kids and grand kids, a little of everything. Even if we bring just the grandkids it changes. If we bring the oldest grandkids, it's the rides. The middle grandkid, GG. Youngest grandkids, GE. As they grow older this will change too. The crowd changes too. Seems like there's a different crowd for each festival.

Granted, there will always be things that hopefully will not change. We will always try and eat breakfast at the mill. I will always try and see the saloon show. And we will always try to get some ice cream at hannah's on our way out. They say that variaty is the spice of life. I agree, but there are many things at Silver Dollar City that should never change.
