Looking Back on 2011 and Forward to 2012!

Silver Dollar City's 2011 season is finally over, and though the season saw generally low attendance, the Christmas season ended the year with a bang as the park experienced some of the highest attended days in its history. According to a recent article on the Branson Tri-Lakes News, attendance for this season will be down almost 100,000 from usual, but with such a challenging season things could have been a lot worse. As we all know, the weather was terrible in 2011 with a scorching hot summer and rain fall at seemingly only inconvenient times for the park. The recent economic uncertainty has also had a huge impact on Branson tourism this year. Luckily, with the arrival of moderate temperatures this fall and early winter combined with a slew of promotions and discounts from the park, the last several weekends of the season have seen highway 76 backed up for hours with visitors trying to cram into the park. Things look good for the park going into 2012!

For 2012, the park seems to be focusing on shows and festivals among other possible improvements. According to reports on MidWestInfoGuide.com it will be the biggest show year ever with the return of Nick Wallenda during Kidsfest, an Italian focused Worldsfest, a fireworks show for the 4th of July, and a big new show during both the Christmas and Harvest festivals. The Harvest festival show will apparently be called "The Pinkerton Man" and be a family-friendly western stunt show based around the history of the first female Pinkerton's detective and the traveling medicine shows of the 1880's. You can read more about the Pinkerton Man here on Blooloop. The Christmas show will apparently be called "It's a Wonderful Life" and be held in Red Gold Heritage Hall.

For the thrill junkies among us, 2012 will be a year of speculation and observation as construction has already started on what seems to be a large new ride for the 2013 season.
