GO-CARTS!!
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:26:46 PM »
Now we'r talkin' my kinda deal! ;D How many of ya do carts when ya go to Branson? And which ones? We do the wooden ones & the slick track. I remember hearin' my pa laugh SO hard on them when i was'a kid.
We dont hit the strip as much as we used to, & if we do, we go alil' earlier to beat the crowd.
We are big dirt auto racin' fans, so we take our carts pretty serious. 8)

Past experience tells me any of the Tracks in Branson are good.

When I rode the wet track, I always laughed myself silly...-er.  It was so much fun, my wife never sees the point, however.  Wait...she never sees the point of anything I do. ;D

My daughter has wanted to try the wooden track but I am unsure if she could handle it solo.  She does drive the smaller carts and she is tall enough to go on the wooden track.

She just turned 12 so in your opinion is she ready for the big track?

I'd say 2 choices - Ride double with her & let her drive & see how she does. Or, let'r go at it alone & just cruise behind her, it will be proud parent moment. Hopefully it'd keep all the "crazies" from messin' her up. I'd say if she can reach the pedals correctly, shes good.

I used to love the carts as a kid.  I remember as a teenager going to Branson with some friends and riding some go-carts.  One night I got a cart that must have had the governor removed or something, because it was so powerful that I lapped everyone at least twice.  My friends eyes would bug out when I would blow past them in the corners.  Talk about unfair advantages!  :)  I was going so much faster than the rest of the pack that it became almost a little embarrassing because it made me stick out like a sore thumb.  As soon as the time was up the attendants quickly escorted my little hot rod off the track and into the service area.  I have always wondered if maybe some employees had been running this souped up version and had forgotten to tame it before it got out on the track.

Having had the experience of being a "local" for a few years, it is very likely the crew at the go kart track indeed did monkey with that cart to make it go faster. I knew a girl in Branson whose parents owned the track that used to be next to Skateworld and the Bumper Boats in the early 1980s, and enjoyed many a wild lap around the track in a souped up kart.

Hey Junior, that might have actually been the track.  It seems like it was next to some bumper boats.  I have never had a cart like that since and will never again.  It sure was fun!

That was one of the first tracks on the strip.  It is where we learned to drive the carts.  It is also where we learned about the bumper boats.

It has been over 15  years ago but the boys and I (not listening to my wife) almost got in a fight with a group of teenage boys.  It seems they thought it was funny to cut off my daughter (13 at the time, and just learning how to drive the carts).  They kept slamming into her from behind and cutting her off in the front.  They were running her into the railing.  When the ride was over and they saw us heading their way (and not happy) their feet started moving like Shaggy and Scooby.  My wife was really mad at us, and for several years we were not allowed to ride the carts.

What a great time they are.

Sounds familier..
Last year, my brother had his 2 sons with him, & his oldist one who is in his late teens, kept slammin' us & even spun me out while i was leadin'!! Well.. Needless to say, when we pulled back in, they said - "dont come back."
We weren't mad at the track owners, but we sure called his kid a ding-dong, & afew other things.... :D

We used to go to Thunder Road until it was torn down to build the Titanic.
