Shows and Concerts in Branson
« on: April 10, 2010, 11:06:43 AM »
Big Shows/Concerts in Branson? Anyone ever attended any of the major shows/concerts in Branson? In about '81 or '82, the biggest thing to hit Branson was a Barbara Mandrell concert staged in Mutton Hollow, on the parking lot. Traffic was backed up for miles, and then the promoter (Stan Hitchcock) allegedly skipped town with the box office money. Over the years, there have been big names appear in Branson. Wayne Newton, George Jones...even Ringo Starr! I'd like to hear from folks who attended the "big" shows over the years, and the impression those shows made on 'em. Remember the Rockettes at the Grand Palace? Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Oak Ridge Boys?
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

Peter Paul and Mary at SDC, Echo Hollow........... Beautiful and basic
Ray Charles, once at the out door theater and once at the Grand Palace, I was very lucky to see him when I did, a master.
Allison Krauss
Grand Palace, fantastic show, I would love to see her return.
I think I did fairly well for Branson shows.

Growing up I saw a lot of shows and concerts in Branson.  Here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head:  The Rockettes, Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny Cash, Barbara Mandrell, Loretta Lynn, Lorrie Morgan, Bobby Vinton, Ray Stevens, Jim Stafford, Yakov, Andy Williams, Mel Tillis, Pam Tillis, Merle Haggard, Boxcar Willie, Charley Pride, Kenny Rogers, and Moe Bandy.  The ones that made the biggest impression on me were Johnny Cash, Mel Tillis, Charley Pride, Bobby Vinton, Ray Stevens, and Jim Stafford; mainly because they were the most down-to-earth during their performances. :)

Used to go see the Rockettes at the Grand Palace every year, great show! Wished they had built the Palace on SDC property (just re-themed); think it would have worked out better that way. I also saw Christina Aguilera at the Grand Palace; this was when Genie in a Bottle was just becoming a hit. Does anyone remember a show called Christmas Dreams at the Grand Palace? It was more like Christmas Nightmare, hehe! I have met several people in New York that were in the Christmas Spectacular and Christmas Dreams, it has been fun talking to them about their memories. Oh, and Brass Theatre at the Palace was awesome! Wish that show or something like it would return.
