Can't be real wassail, or we'd be back in the debate over alcohol.  ;)

I never heard of Wassail until my grandma told me about it as a kid. Since she is the wife of a Methodist preacher, I doubt she would have gone for having any alcohol in it.

What I've read about non-alcoholic wassail is that there's a bit more variety of spices in it than just plain-old hot cider.

Wow, now I'm flashing back to drinking Glühwein at the Kristkindlmarkt! I need a good cold snap, and some red wine, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves...

If you are making a trip this weekend or next, how about posting some photos? Would love to see how the park looks this fall for the Harvest Fest...thanks!

Went to the Harvest Festival on 10/3.  Park didn't seem to be crowded at all.  Went to the first showing of Headin' West; theater might have been 3/4 full.  Cast singing seemed better this year.  The highlight for me is always the guy singing "They Call the Wind Mariah".  From there we walked out and easily got in line for the saloon show which was starting in 10 minutes.  The show did fill.  It was different and a bit shorter than the show we saw earlier in the spring.  It was okay.  Pure Heart was singing at the Dockside, Cajun Connection was in Riverside Playhouse, and the Boatworks was being used by Teter's Floral to give craft demonstrations.  Can't believe SDC didn't bring in the extra music groups like they have in the past.  The crafters' reunion displays at the carousel barn was nice but pricey.  I don't have $15,000 or more to pay for paintings. (That's right -- there were more than 1 item at $15,000 and higher. :o)  The PBS Craft in America display in the Frisco Barn was excellent -- museum quality.  Doors had been installed at each end of the barn.  2 of the doors were roped off.  At the entrance/exit there was a security guard and there were several SDC employees stationed throughout the display to make sure you looked and didn't touch.  The craft booths were laid out better this year.  Did make it easier to walk around.  Looked at the old Waterboggan area -- didn't see any signs of construction.  Didn't take the camera so I don't have any pictures to share.  The other note -- it was difficult to get into the park at the entrance gates.  Lots of people had problems getting their passes to scan and many passes were being reprinted.  My husband had to have his season pass reprinted for the second time this year.

@biscuit if you keep your passes near items like cell phones it will zap your pass and make it unusable. strange but true

The passes are bar codes now - not magnetic strips.

We went to SDC today and walked through the Carousel Barn.  I did notice Jesse Barnes had a painting priced at $24,000.  It was a great looking painting but not quite that great to me.  Maybe in the world of art it was a steal but it did seem pretty pricey to me.  We did pick up a couple of water colors from Gary Dierking for $5 and $30, which was very reasonable.  He was a very friendly and talkative guy.  At 1 o'clock today the attendance was 4,600.  What was the old Who song?  I Can See For Miles :).

Call me selfish, but I am hoping for low attendance numbers when I go in a few days! However, the weather is scheduled to be beautiful so look out, here come the masses! ;D
