The Official Debate Thread! (Another official thread by Coaster)
« on: September 01, 2007, 10:19:09 AM »
Welcome to the overly anticpated (by me) debate thread!! This is the place where you get to argue with fellow members! (Don't get too testy!) Follow all basic forum rules, and don't bring this conversation into any thread. If you must take it to the OOTT. (Official Off Topic Thread). All debates will be Silver Dollar City, Celebration City, OR White Water related.

You probably skimmed through the above paragraph because you just want to see the first debate. The first debate is.....

(Drum roll please)

Debates to Date
Sep. 1-Sep. 15:    Where is your favorite place to relax at Silver Dollar City? Debate Closed. Debate ended on Page 4.
Sep. 15-Sep. 30:   What is your favorite smell at SDC? Debate Closed. Debate ended on Page 4.
Oct. 1-Oct. 16:  What will we really see at Silver Dollar City in 2008? Debate Closed. Debate ended on Page 6.

Debate Number Four:

Should Celebration City stay open for the Christmas season?

You debate....You decide.

This debate will end on October 31. A new debate will be posted on November 1.

The replica cabin at the edge of the main square behind the basket shop -easily. Hardly any SDC patrons ever find that place, even after years of visits. It's not necessarily secluded, but it's very out-of-the-way. You pretty much have to be wandering purposelessly to find it. The cabin is a mock-up of what a real frontier cabin would have been like in the 1880's, and has been at the park since the 60's. Inside are various amenities from the time period, including a bed and stove. Being right at the edge of the woods and in a quite part of the park makes it a great place to just sit and think.

I know exactly where that is Whales. We always have to make a trip to the basket shop because of my mom. My favorite places to relax are the Saloon Show and the train ride. I love the saloon show it's a hilarious show. You've also got food, drinks, laughs, and saloon girls. (No offense to the women here). I like the train ride because it was my favorite ride when I was a baby, on my first trip to the park, on up til like ten years old. Then I got into the roller coasters. It's also just a relaxing journey through the woods surrounding SDC. Very beautiful place.

I really can't decide on a single place in SDC that I can relax at because SDC as a whole is a place I go to to relax and get away from real life.

I enjoy the view and quietness in the Wilderness Church. I like the loud splashing of the waterfall behind the Lumberjack Camp. I love the endearing sounds of children squealing as they play at Geyser Gulch.

With the murmur of the crowds, the screams of coaster riders, and the general buzz of the atmospheric noises, it all adds up into a nice lulling sound that makes me feel peaceful no matter where I sit in the park to relax.

Geyser Gulch is like the least relaxing place in the park for me. All those little kids running around being noisy and yelling. Gives ya a headache almost. Sometimes while in line for the Lost River you can hear them across the lake. It's nuts!

I used to like just hanging out around the waterfall, but then they took out the pathway that went right under it. Anyone know why they did this?

I hate it that they took out the path behind the waterfall. It was a very relaxing place to go. I have no idea why they took out the path.

We never said it was going to come back. We were all wondering why it was closed.

I have no idea why it closed, but from the last time I was on it (I think it was '02 or '03), it did seem like it'd become a bit rundown. I imagine it was probably a structural issue, as SDC doesn't typically take down things unless it's a safety problem or something.

I'm sure it had something to do with kids loitering, or someone doing something dangerous to get at the water. Or maybe insurance struck again like with the cave/slides.

It makes me mad that people can be so stupid and ruin other people's property. Like the Wildfire queue line, have you guys seen how much grafiti (sp?) is on the walls?? Grrr! It makes me want to scream. I've never seen anyone actually write on the walls, but if I do I'll tell them to quit. Of course, I don't know if they'd listen to a teenager.

^That's not even close to the amount of graffiti in TGS's line. Last I was there, a kid decided to scrawl his name all over the wall, and a ride attendant told him he'd be escorted out of the park. Well, then mommy and daddy came to the rescue and started a fight with the ride op., rather than notice what their son was doing, much less be bothered to punish him. It's like they had their family honor trodden on, the way they fought. They said they'd sue because there were no 'don't grafitti' signs, therefore the punishment was unreasonable.

Yeah, don't put to much faith in humanity.

Anyway, back onto the topic at hand, there's a nice place to sit and eat near ThuNderaTion, behind the food skillet stands. It's very wooded and has a nice view over the valley where the ampitheatre is, although there are usually plenty of people around.

Yeah, I remember you talking about that family on the pictures page on the site. If my parents caught me writing on anything of someone else's property I'd be in soooo much trouble. If I wrote on a wall at SDC I bet they'd make us go straight on home and leave the park immediately.

Anyways, I'm trying to think of the place your talkin about Steve...I think it's right next to some restaurant and there's a bunch of picnic tables around. Am I right?

Yes, directly behind the magic shop and the big skillet place.
