Well. This is definitely very interesting! Would love to see a map that shows the changes; I'm trying my best to visualize based on the descriptions in the link, but having a bit of a hard time doing so.

Yellow is new MO76. Blue is the extension of MO376. Red is current 76 that will be turned over to the city of Branson. Green is the existing MO 76, which will remain the same. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the visual, Jipper.

I have a feeling the new "Missouri Route 76" designation is going to confuse a lot of people.

It's a very interesting development, but not necessarily for the reasons people might assume. Nothing is happening yet except the switch-out of signs and route numbers. This does pave the way for the city to make massive changes to the strip going forward though. No more waiting on state approval to upgrade the road.

The spirit of 76 project will live on one way or another. They really don't have much of a choice. I just hope they don't try to simply force a four lane upgrade through. We need a mass transit system, and we need it ten years ago.

Thanks, Jipper! It still seems confusing but now I can actually understand what they were describing!

Good points, Shave. I would LOVE to see the Spirit of 76 project revived somehow. I read the entire 100+ page proposal and it was gonna be SO COOL.

600,000 dollars plus to replace some signs. MODOT better not ask for a gas tax increase when they waste money like this.

Anyone know the story behind the unfinished High Road project? I've always wondered where it was supposed to go and why it was never completed. It's obvious much of the ground work was done but looks like they stopped just shy of bringing in the concrete trucks.

They ran out of money!

You're right! I asked that and then just found this timely story! https://www.ky3.com/content/news/The-future-of-Ozark-Mountain-Highroad-MoDOT-has-no-plans-to-complete-Hwy-465-564627821.html

Cost the state $61 million for eight miles of highway.

Herschends and the state got into a pissing contest when the state did not want it to go past the Branson Bell property.

I still remember when 76 was the only road, and front bumper stickers that said,

"I'M LOCAL AND I'LL HELP YOU TURN LEFT! <-----"

Agree 100%:  the action is pointless from a travel standpoint.  If it helps the city, fine, but let the city finance it.

That said, I use 465 whenever possible, and I'd love to see that project completed.

My family and I always have to drive down the strip once on each trip just to see what has changed. Once we've done that, we stay on the yellow route!
