It appears it to be the will of God when defending an "old friend" convicted of sexual offenses upon children and pleading for a lesser sentence. Herschend said he and Walker have been friends for 30 years. Herschend told the judge that Walker has been changed since his arrest and now exudes qualities of the Boy Scout Law, like trustworthy, brave and reverent.

Testifying does not make someone "complicit" (i.e., involved with others in an illegal activity or wrongdoing).  It is not the topic or the news article that will get things like this deleted, but the spin.

Yeah, cool your jets. This isn't an official SDC site. We can discuss things without jumping down each others throats.

It does look pretty bad. There may be more details behind this news blurb though. A 75 year old man suddenly going off the deep end like this could be indicative of some kind of mental breakdown. They are putting him in a medical facility for prisoners, and they mention a myriad of health problems.

Not sure why Pete would want to go on record defending him though. He was definitely going to prison either way and will probably die there even if it is just a 5-year sentence. Pete probably said a lot more that isn't being reported.

Looks to me like a few posters on this site are less concerned about a pedophile supported by Pete Herschend than the children who are harmed daily by folks like these two. The one does the harm and the other attempts to use his persuasion to help an old buddy out at sentencing in a court of law.  That is complicity to reduce the impact upon the perp and disregard of the victims

I'm sure many Boy Scouts and Scout parents would cringe at reading Herschend's comment. Interesting he referenced the "BOY" Scouts when vouching for a man convicted of aiding in harm to young boys.

Anyone who is less than appalled at the conduct of Walker, Herschend, and Smart and chooses to brush it off as they go about their daily lives needs to check their moral compass. But at this point they likely have no moral compass.

I'm actually shocked ya'll didn't just delete the topic though and just stick yer heads in the sand...which is so popular these days.

Actually I think it was young boys getting hugs and much more. You don't seem alarmed, which pretty much means that in my initial post I accurately surmised the likely reactions of a select few of ya'll on this board.

Screw off and go white knight somewhere else dude. Not sure why you're on a crusade here. Like I said, it looks bad, but most of us know not to completely make up our minds based on one line in a scant news article. I would like to hear more from pete about it before I completely throw him to the wolves.

I wouldn't be against discussing this issue to some degree, but it's clear you're only coming here to get off on starting some kind of fight with us, so I don't see the point anymore. Thread locked.

Edit: If we find out more about what really went on here, I will potentially unlock the thread. I doubt we will hear any more about it, but I will look for a statement from Pete or the family. It is certainly upsetting to see what appears to be defense of horrifically evil behavior, but we have to know by now that there is always more to the story. I will be looking for a court transcript.
