Oh man, I remember people requesting photos of that sign. I'm sure it's as nostalgic to some as the log and waterfall are to my generation.

Does anyone remember the blue sparkling SDC billboard on S 65 years ago?  It looked like it was made of little round metallic discs that shimmered like water? It was coolest billboard! I'm guessing maybe it was put up the year LR was installed. Pintrader, are these family photos you're posting?  I wish I had some of them; haven't found anything like them in our family photos yet.

No Gilligan, I went to SDC quite a few times during the 60's and 70's but thought it was a waste of time lugging a camera around.  That was a pretty stupid way of thinking looking back now.  The black and white pictures I purchased a few years ago and just scanned them.   The color ones are slides that I have purchased and made into digital pictures.  I hated to think these old slides might be thrown away, and fans like the ones on this site not ever get to see them.    Fact is I just purchased around 20 or so slides from 1977 of SDC, and should get them digitalized in a couple of weeks.

Here is a picture from circa 1969 of some of the great signage that was around the city at that time.  I have no idea where this was located.....maybe someone on here could let us know.

Here is a slide/picture from circa 1970 entering the Float Trip.  Your job was to help find Joe Clark and you would walk up thru the mill (still there) and down to the boats.  I remember the boats being fairly large and being able to hold several people.  The loading area today for American Plunge is in the same location as was the Float Trip.

Is that the spot where the walk way turns right then goes down the steps to the loading station currently?

This guy is standing about midway where you watch the plunge from the platform today, and the mill which was the entrance.   I have another old picture from the internet that shows the entrance to the old Float Trip.   The entrance is right behind the man sitting down.  Sorry about the quality of the picture,  but the answer to your question is no.  The loading today is on the other side of the mill in these pictures.

Here is another old picture from the internet of The Float Trip.  The walkway above these riders comes from the mill that is still there today, and the mill would be to their left.  The splash down would be just in back of them today. Once the boat stopped people would unload to the left, and new riders would load from the right.  Of course the American Plunge goes in the opposite direction than the Float Trip did.

Here is a photo circa 1968 of the windmill that was located on Main Street.   I will give it the old college try and say the church is located just to the left in this picture.  The building in the back is probably the weaving shop with the second building being the lye soap building (can't really see).  Which is the leather shop and lye soap today.  If I am wrong straighten me out on this.

I think you're pretty close.  I suppose the windmill was replaced by the little fire pump tower on Main Street.

Was there a sprinkler on the windmill for the Rainmaker Show; I had thought the sprinkler was in a tree, but the windmill would have been an easier installation.

These are great.

Thank you...glad you like them!

Here is another slide/picture from circa 1970.   Looks like it was took on Main Street with the church to his right.  Don't know this man, but he looks like my kind of guy.  Hamming it up for the camera.....pretty funny.

If I remember correctly the Rainmaker Show was under the Shot Tower, and they had a sprinkling system hooked up at the top like you say.   It seems like the Shot Tower was located where the SDC Volunteer Firemen tower is today on Main Street.

You have a good eye!  Here are 3 slides/pictures from 1970 of a skit Carrie Nation was doing on Main Street.

So in other words, this guy and the entrance to the old ride is basically the exit for the current ride
