As I told my dad this year, "Well...looks like the kids can't come to SDC next year.  Adult themes only."  ;)

SDC always was and always is a kids fest...some kids are just a lot older.  What I did like about it was some of the shows like the magician and the dogs, but when I was a kid the show for a few years was the civil war show about the battle of (drawing a blank) creek near Branson.  I loved it.  And I was a kid.  Way more historical and educational.

Wilson/Wilson's Creek.  Aug 10, 1861.  I *really* wish they'd do some more of that.  As a reenactor, I'd love to help  ;D  I'll be happy to provide a crew for the 6 pounder!

Wilson's creek was closer to Springfield though. I caught the civil war musician in Carthage the last time I was there. The war didn't do much for Southwest Missouri. Many of the towns in the area were burned and most of the population left.

Bought a book at the old bookstore long ago about civil war in the west that featured a large section on the war in southern missouri.  There is a history around the parts, but not big enough of one for your common classes/historians to talk about.  Wilsons creek, as I recall, was actually one of the first battles of the west.

Palallin: it's cool you're a reenactor.  Going to Gettysburg this year?
Small wonder our lives have so little of God in them, when we come in touch with so little that God has made.

And since Celebration City is no longer open, there is no conflict there...
I wondered id they were playing with that idea.

They have run several "extended" days this year.

It seems like they always have agood turnout in the evening.

Great American Summer will be the festival replacing KidsFest.
Basically they are rolling KidsFest and Moonlight Madness into one event.
Park should be open 10-10 every day

Awesome! I've been wishing for years for them to extend their hours at least during summer.

Personally, I'd love it to be 'till 11pm or 12am on weekends, like other parks (Worlds of Fun, for example). But 10-10 is what WoF is aside from weekends, so that's a good push towards better summer hours at SDC. If it goes well, maybe the next step will be later hours on weekends!

I'm just wondering how much infrastructure work will need to be done (putting in sufficient lighting) in order to accommodate later hours.

They have some lighting but probably not enough. During Christmas it's sufficient because of all of the holiday lights hung everywhere.

When I was there for the 50th Anniversary, I really enjoyed walking through the park after dark, *because* of the lack of lighting. It was just so... beautiful.

I would hope that they dont add too much lighting to the pathways..  A little dark/dim really helps the city in the evening.

No flood lights needed..!!  please.

I would imagine that it would be themed lighting.  But it will need to be added.  For liability if nothing else.

yep, hopefully more themed street lights, and maybe themed "porch lights"..  I will for sure have to be there at least 1 evening to check it out,,

The good thing is the walk from EH will be nicer, after dark, that path is DARK..  good thing it is in our little city..  because anywhere else i would not walk that route after dark without my "buddy"

Will there be a nighttime show to go with the extended hours?
