Old Reeds Spring Church in Jeopardy
« on: October 29, 2014, 04:04:35 PM »
I wanted to bring this to attention, even though it's slightly out of our range. I know we have a lot of history enthusiasts and those who will appreciate it.

The 107 year old Reeds Spring church is badly damaged and doesn't have a clear shot of being saved. It's owned by the city, who claims they don't have the money to fix it, and none of the citizens seem to care (of course if you've been through RS lately you can see why).

I did a little summary: http://sdcfans.com/old-reeds-spring-church-in-jeopordy/
and then there's this news article with more: http://bransontrilakesnews.com/news_free/article_f84b91b4-5972-11e4-8f72-3fcb9cbb9c2f.html?mode=story

It would definitely suck to lose it. I've been thinking a lot about how little surviving history there is in this country. I like to browse google maps all the time and check out old cities in the UK and Europe, and it's just astounding how much character and history is tucked away into every corner, but we demolish beautiful old buildings every year around here.

I think it would turn out great if someone invested in turning it into a wedding chapel. That would bring some much needed cash and tourism back into Reeds Spring. Unfortunately, it will take some hard to catch outside dollars to do it.
