question about old equipment
« on: June 12, 2008, 03:12:32 PM »
this is kind of a strange description but its all i can remember.i remember some play ground equipment near the old petting zoo( tom sawyers landing). you could climb through it and it was all inclosed. boxlike with small windows everyonce in a while. i remember kids would always get stuck in them and start crying. does anyone else remember this.  any pics, name or any further descriptions?

Kind of...did the walls eventually get smaller until you couldn't fit through them?  I think this was version 1.0 of Tom Sawyer's Landing?

It sounds a lot like Shanty Town, which was by Tom Sawyer's Landing where Gandy Dancer used to be.

Shanty town was just to the right of where the entrance to the lost river sits now. The water maze was just a small rope and platform area that jutted out over the water. There are a few pictures of it on the forums somewhere. The peanut track for the gandy dancer was next door but was removed when the basket shop (now the Toy shop) wes built. Gready brothers went in next to the shanty town for one seASON THEN WENT AWAY WHEN LOST RIVER WAS BUILT. (darn that caps lock!)

^ Caps gets you every time!  ;D

Thanks for clarifying.  I now remember the water maze over by Shanty Town.  Man, that was one of those places that you just kind of forget about as it lived in the shadows of TSL.  Sort of like the playground that was part of the Lost River of the Ozarks queue.  It's been so long since I waited in that queue line that I am not sure that it is even still there.

that playground was built as part of Rube's. Its really the only surviving part that I can recall. It sat between the entrance and the exit cave.

I remember the playground in the Lost River queue!  It's been so long since I've had to wait in that line.  Is it gone?  (It really has been so long that I don't know if it's gone or not).

I went last fall and did not see the structure anywhere. I was looking to the left of Geyser Gulch. Right place, yes? I ran around in Shanty Town forever. I think I even made a friend there.
