Great Wolf Lodge KC
« on: October 14, 2012, 01:02:18 PM »
Spent two nights there this past week. Leaves were really starting to color up in Kansas, it was pretty. Waterpark was great as usual. The only difference between this place and Grand Country is that GWL has a tower slide structure that offers three more rides that go outside the building and back in. The most popular one on that tower is the twist that sends you into those funnel looking things. It is the most fun but the yellow slide is pitch black at night and adds much more to it than during the day. The lazy river has more water effects  and they have a larger pool with more goals and a rope course, the Indoor toddler area is better as well but Grand Country has a better outdoor area. GWL is just more like a big pool. It was decorated for Halloween well with a giant spider made out of ballons and they had a trick or treat trail for the kids. That pajama storytime seems real big with the little ones. They had a dance party for the kids Friday nite. Weather wasn't condusive to outdoor minigolf/

It seems that the area around Schitterbahn seems under heavy construction. From the expressway, it seems full of containers.  Guess they are finally getting into the Village part of the development that's several years behind. Is Scheels still part of this? Maybe Swoosh knows.

The "Village" has been put on hold for now and Scheels has fallen through.

The only "announced" expansions for next year at SKC is the addition of a new catering building and retail outlet with restrooms (the building near the Boogie Bahn).

While not "announced" yet, the Cabana Village will be expanded as well as they were quite popular.  There *might* be a new slide or two next year, but that is still in the "rumor" phase. ;)

The Scheel's backing out makes sense already with a Bass Pro in the area as well as a Cabela's just across 435.
They area really looks "under development" from the road.

Scheels is nothing like a Bass Pro or Cabela's.  If anything, it is more like a Dick's Sporting Goods that happens to also sell some outdoors stuff -- and they have extensive home decor and good section.

If it's a Dick's clone, it stinks. It's right up there with Oshmans and Sports Authority and a rung lower than Academy or Gander Mountain.
