A Note About Spam Posts
« on: March 06, 2012, 09:57:39 PM »
Every so often you may see a spambot get through our filters and a spam message get posted to the forums. So far we have seen mostly nonsensical spam originating from China where various groups are apparently attempting to scatter propaganda and change search rankings maliciously.

DO NOT POST IN SPAM THREADS

If you see a spam post, click the report button. Do nothing else. Do not attempt to argue with the poster or ward them off. In the vast majority of spam cases, the spammer is simply a computer bot that crawls forum sites and creates accounts until it is able to get in and make a post. In any case, responding to spam is simply playing into the objectives of the spammer because it draws attention to their message and bumps it to the top of the forum repeatedly.

Thanks

Yep, and it seems to be happening again right now. I am humming to bluegrass songs in my head, and picturing the autumn Ozark Mountains, and the next thing I know I am reading about some clinic in China! :o ;)

Thanks Joy. There's another increase in spam attacks going on right now, I deleted about 30 accounts just now.

Do we have any mods today? I reported several spam posts that were made early this morning; none have been removed.
