It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia -- An SDC Reference!
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:53:46 AM »
So, I don't watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I am a regular Tumblr user, and one of the tags I track is "Silver Dollar City." Well, the other day there was a new post in the tag (something so rare that I celebrate every time, lol). The post had a screencap from this week's episode, and lo and behold, the actor Charlie Day is sitting there wearing a vintage SDC T-shirt!

I was so intrigued, I downloaded the episode and took a screencap myself. Here ya go:

Was there any discussion in the show about SDC or Branson?

I don't watch that show, but that is really cool! I wonder how many people who watch that show actually knows what a 'Silver Dollar City' is?

Love it! I wonder what context, if any the shirt had with the show? Probably none, but how cool was it that the actor, or producer, or director, or costume designer, or whomever gave a nod to Silver Dollar City in that way.

Free publicity rocks.  8)

One of the former writers graduated from high school me here in StL. Great funny guy that now is one of the writers for Two Broke Girls.

Heck I would love to have that shirt! Not because it was worn on TV..but because it is SDC!

I know, I was not much of an apparel person as a kid. Maybe a hat here, or there, but never really any clothing was purchased on trips. Probably why I don't have many still today!

It's awesome to see a show with so much popular cred using that shirt as inadvertent promotion.   I've been to a few clothing shops in L.A. that sell old shirts from TV or movie productions (a little higher end, but still all second hand clothes).   The randomness of what they sell in those shops make me think that whoever bought this for Charlie's character on the show probably had no intention of making it part of the storyline, but it's awesome to see this!

If I ever become famous, I'll wear SDC stuff everytime there are cameras around! And it will be intentional!

What episode was this?

Junior: No discussion of SDC or Branson. He just happened to be wearing that shirt.

Rube: OMG, I love 2 Broke Girls!

Tiffany: It was the newest one, I think; it was called "Anti-Social Network" or something like that.

Sabrina Rosen is the costume designer for It's Always Sunny. She's worked on three different Harrison Ford movies! Charlie Day, in addition to starring in the show, is a co-creator as well as co-writer.

Mike's right; the shirt was most likely randomly chosen at a high-end second-hand shop in L.A. The show is filmed in both L.A. and Philly, most likely the Philly shooting is just the outside establishing shots.

I had read this thread earlier tonight, then almost did a spit take while watching "Breaking Bad" on Netflix.

Season 2, Episode 7: Danny Trejo is "Tortuga", leader of a drug cartel. The DEA squad is paying him a social call, when Tortuga realizes some of them don't speak Spanish. About 27:00 in: "Hey, white boy! You better learn Spanish, this ain't Branson Missouri!"
