Fairy Cave Postcards (Talking Rocks Cavern)
« on: March 26, 2011, 03:59:58 PM »
I was browsing through an area flea market today and ran across two vintage postcards, probably from the 1920's or 1930's, of Fairy Cave, what we know today as Talking Rocks Cavern. I believe the cave was, the second property purchased by the Herschends back in the mid to late '60s or early '70s. If I remember company history correctly, after the purchase of Talking Rocks Cavern, the company built the campground, and then Silver Dollar City, Tennessee, then the waterslide across from the campground. Then, in 1980, they built the first Whitewater at Branson.  The vintage postcards read on the back "Published for Waldo Powell, Fairy Cave, Mo." That tells me they are old. Waldo operated the cave after his dad, Truman Powell. Truman discovered the cave. The postcards are on the Flickr site:
