We're in Branson right now.  We spent today (Sat.,Oct. 22) in the city.  Boy, was it busy.  Made it in for opening ceremonies.  We enjoyed the addition of the bald eagle to the festivities.  We also saw the eagle at the birds of prey show later that afternoon.

We had a pretty good time even though we were lugging a two-year-old around.  I didn't have breakfast, so I had a cheeseburger at about 10:00 a.m.--lol.  We saw Headin' West without too much toddler drama.  We shopped and rode some toddler-friendly rides.  My two-year-old got stuck in the slide at Half Dollar Hollar again, though.  She gets scared or something and some other kid has to shove her out.

It felt pretty busy today.  I would be curious to see the numbers today.  Still, we had a pretty good time.

Nice mini trip review StaceySue!

The park was also extra crowded when I attended last Saturday. It’s getting pretty close to peak foliage time in Branson. However, I hope the hot, cold, rainy, and sunny weather this week hasn’t put a damper on that.

I look forwarded to hearing more!  ;D

We were there on the 16th, and the weather could not have been more perfect.  We had planned to spend the entire day, but fly fishing was calling my name so...Yikes!  Don't hurt me - we stayed only a few hours.  Had a fine cinnamon roll at Eve and Delilah's, couldn't find a pumpkin funnel cake anywhere (who mentioned that in another thread?  It's all I can think about!), tomato basil soup wasn't on the menus yet (try it!), had lunch at the Mine Restaurant (pretty tasty and included the chocolate raspberry cake), cinnamon bread was out - 30 min. wait and a line for it -, and a frozen lemonade (ooh!  aah!)  I was hoping we would hit the peak for color, but it sounds like we were early.  Mr. Wildlife Biologist/Wetlands Specialist husband says it isn't going to be a banner year for color (don't ask him to explain unless you have time for at least a pot of coffee or two).  All in all, we had a great, but short - er visit to the park than originally planned.  I did notice that Main Street held most of the fall decorations.  It was pretty, but in the past it has been "over the top beautiful", so I was slightly disappointed.   I compared it to some old pics when I got home, and there's no comparison to what it looked like even a couple of years ago.  P.S.  Fly fishing was great, but I caught "nary a fish".  Any visit to the city is a good one.

hey Gilligan, any visit too the city and any day fishing fly fishing or just fishing is better than any day at work or at home preparing the yard and house for winter. lol so you wont get a tongue lashing from me. just hope what ever you did was fun for you and your family.

gilligan, odd you should mention the square was not up to par in decorations..  I thought the same thing, But thought i was being too critical..

After all the square has
the lumberjack thing going on,
the big sand sculpture,
the lady doing street painting,
the pumpkin display for photos,
the old stagecoach in front of molly's,
and several craft booths.

Actually the square is pretty busy with all the events this year.   So i still wonder about the decorations??

Interesting observation about the decorations, or lack there of.

I noticed it too! Last year, the Red Gold Heritage Hall had decorations all over the entryway, but this year they were noticeably missing. In fact, outside the Town Square, the Humana banners are about the only mention of the Harvest Festival in the park.

We are just about through with the "regular" season at SDC for the 51st year. I just want to thank everyone for their great reviews of the trips they have made. Those reports keep us all up to date on what is going on around the park. Grandfather's Mansion fire/fireworks issue, weird platform in Lake Silver, new log hewing exhibit, new Dugan's shop, those are all things I heard about for the first time right here. These things are too little to make the news or be discussed in press releases issued by the park. It's the true fans that report here that keep us up to date between our own visits. THANKS!

We arrived at the park last Saturday morning about 11:00, after the 4 hour drive from Little Rock.  We ended up in Parking Lot 6 which I don't think we've ever parked at before but they filled it up before Parking Lot 5 in anticipation of a large crowd. My daughter was celebrating her 8th birthday so she wore her "birthday hat" which is a pink cake with candles on top and a tiara across the front with Birthday Princess.  Needless to say she got lots of well wishes for her birthday.  We rode the Flooded Mine twice in a row (always our first ride unless it's shut down).  Then went over to the GE for a couple of rides.  None of these had very long lines despite the fact the park ended up with over 14,000 in attendance!  We ended up riding Fire in the Hole 4 times on Saturday.  The lines were pretty long for that.  We rode Thunderation twice and the lines were short for that but they were running 2 trains.  What amazed me was how long the lines were for the train.  Everytime we went to ride it the line was backed up to where the Build a Bear house is now (formerly Becca's Weaving).  They were just running the engine and 3 cars so that could explain the line.  I don't think I ever saw it run only 3 cars before.  At 1pm we went to the bakery to pick up the birthday cake we had ordered in Sept. We had cake and drinks at the bakery then took pieces of cake to citizens of the City that had wished my daughter a Happy Birthday.  We started this tradition 3 years ago.  Ramone at  the Flooded Mine is always very nice and sings Happy Birthday to her so he and his fellow mine workers always get cake.

Thanks Sanddunerider!  We've been doing the cake thing for 3 years.  A pretty good sized cake that I believe cost us around 14.50 after the Season Pass discount.  Not a bad deal.
