« on: December 24, 2014, 04:16:52 PM »
Want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Wife and I have done the things with the kids and grandkids already, and we will visit an elderly couple and another elderly man, all members of our church, to spend some time on Christmas Day with them, and we will bring along some goodies. Hope you and your families have a great day! God bless, and all best wishes!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Shantytown update
« on: November 14, 2014, 04:20:53 PM »
I read Shave's Throwback Thursday piece on Shantytown, and wanted to make a few minor corrections. I tried posting under the Shantytown article, but for some reason, the site said I wasn't logged in, but I was. Anyway, Tom Sawyer's landing first appeared in 1980, not 1984. Shantytown arrived in 1984, not 1979. The Greedy Brother's Excursion operated one year only in 1984. Last year for the diving bell was '84. Lost River appeared in 1985. As a former employee, it has been amazing to see the area around the lake develop over 35 years! Geyser Gulch and Splash Harbor and the tobaggan are now memories, and Fireman's Landing will be a nice new edition for 2015! Thanks, Shave for the articles and photos. I was unable to make it to the park this year, so I have appreciated all updates from the folks on the site.

Branson Talk / The Burdette Family Dancers
« on: September 11, 2014, 08:01:51 PM »
This goes out to all who remember the Burdette Family, who in the 1970s and 1980s did traditional and square dancing at Bob-O-Links Country Hoedown Theater in Branson, and at special events and festivals at SDC.My brother, sister and I rode the bus to school with the kids back then, and I worked indirectly with the father, Rex Burdette at SDC back then, Rex currently is an Entertainment Department manager at SDC. Rex's wife, I learned today, has breast cancer that has spread to her lungs. This news comes directly from Rex's daughter. Please pray for her, a wonderful woman, fantastic dancer, and devoted wife and mother. They entertained thousands including me. May God bless them all during this time.

Branson Talk / The Branson I Remember
« on: September 08, 2014, 05:04:14 PM »
Been a long time since I added photos to my Flickr account. So I added some photos of "lost" Branson attractions of The Branson I Remember. Take a trip down memory lane with me, and see some fairly recent pictures of some of the musicians that were part of the house band at Hee Haw Theater. All are still active in the Branson entertainment community:    http://www.flickr.com/photos/juniordugan

Branson Talk / Showboat Rumor
« on: August 10, 2014, 04:01:27 PM »
I have heard a rumor this weekend that this is the last season for the showboat! Two people told me after this year, the boat is gone. I questioned them...did they mean the show will be replaced with another? Both said no, the boat is gone. So, somebody please clairify this issue for me...are they just changing the show out again, or is the boat ending it's use as an attraction? I was shocked when I heard this.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / TV program to feature SDC
« on: July 14, 2014, 05:52:12 PM »
You likely have seen a post or two here on the site in the last week about a production company that is developing a six episode series of shows about amusement/theme parks across the country. SDC will be featured in a segment of one of the episodes. I mentioned on another thread that I put my name in the hat to be considered as the person to escort the show host around the park, and I suspect a few others that are members here have done the same thing. Anyway, I had a Skype video interview today, and I think it went well. The producers said they will take about two weeks to review their interviews before making a decision. So, is anyone else here trying out? Just curious. I won't say much more about this until I hear back from the producers. This will be a fun experiece for whoever gets this gig! Best wishes to any sdcfan.com members who are interviewing, God bless.

Branson Talk / Barry Williams on Celebrity Wife Swap
« on: July 08, 2014, 09:55:23 PM »
Anyone see this show tonight? Barry lives in Branson, and the episode showed some local scenery, Table Rock Lake, some go carts, his condo by the lake, and so on. He swapped with Joe Piscopo who used to be on Saturday Night Live. Barry played Greg on the Brady Bunch.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Diving Bell article
« on: June 12, 2014, 06:42:59 PM »
If you have a chance to visit a flea market, quick stop, bait shop, or tourist trap in the Lake of the Ozarks, Truman Lake area this month, look for the June edition of the MISSOURI CHIGGER Magazine (which is based in the little town of Lowry City) for an article I wrote called "Last Ride on Rube Dugan's Diving Bell." The piece is a short history of the ride. If you find a copy of the CHIGGER, I hope you enjoy the article.
