Branson Talk / Re: Anchor Village Motel...any ideas?

Thanks Junior.  I too remember the cabins being there and had people I knew who stayed on the rocky beach there near the fish camp.

Looks awfully familiar and I'm sure it isn't called that any longer, but can't place it.  Found on Flickr...

Probably my original George Keiffer drawings of the City and attractions before many of them were built.  I've got them in a fireproof lockbox and on acid-free backing as well.

Oh...and my time at the City which will never leave me.

Branson Talk / Re: Living in Branson
« on: August 11, 2012, 04:31:08 PM »
I lived in Branson West for about four years.   It was an idyllic life as I am from the Ozarks myself and loved having my first taste at a real job (with SDC) and being away from home for the first time.

Nights were full of fun cruising the strip.  I recall always rolling down my windows driving past the White River downtown and feeling the cool breeze and fog fill my car on hot summer nights....before the Landing was built.

I live in Orlando now and maybe I just cannot tell reality from fantasy, but I've always lived in a "resort" or "vacation" town.  If I have my choice, I'd live in Branson forever....but that was a simpler time as well.

Hate to hear about the loss of the hard drive.  As a Graphic Design guy myself, I fear that loss more than anything.

Loved all your designs, and would love to see you recreate them again, but like a phoenix out of the ashes....many times loss produces even more creativity.  I love the idea of a shop themed t-shirt.   Think of the iconic shops that HAVEN'T been eroded into something chinzy over the years, they have as much personality as those iconic rides.

BUT...if you want my wish list for shirts, here they go (in no particular order)

- Carrie's Candles (something with those swirly candles or the dipping station?)
- Brown's Family Candy Factory (naturally)
- The American Plunge (done in a similar distressed style like the Disney Designerland site's bicentennial stuff?)
- Jim Owen Float Trip
- Mine and Mill restaurant (can you imagine part of the design is on the top and part on bottom...or front and then back)

Anyway, hope you resurrect your stuff.  Oh, and the thought of my "model" torso being somewhere in Boulder, Colorado is quite hilarious.

That's pretty awesome Rubes!  I love being subversive at Disney by doing the same thing (see avatar photo).  Nice work!

Great idea!  There is a Disney fan site that has created soundboards very much like this as freeware for Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

It's just genius!

What's in a name?  In honor of June's milestone anniversary, the store portion of Brown's Candy has been renamed "Aunt June's Copper Kettle Candies"!!!!

LOL!!!!  I was going to say the same thing!  Also, the tie dye stuff started being purchased IN BULK at the City in the early 90's and has remained a constant ever since.  Maybe it is in style, I wouldn't know since I have an iota of taste, but I guess you could make the argument that if you hock enough bad stuff, it will eventually be in style at some point!

In this category I might give the Merch folks at SDC an "E" for effort and an "I" for Imagination.

I go there sometimes after work just to walk or bike around the place.  I agree.   It reminds me so much of the old days of the Silver Dollar City Campground.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / June Ward's 45th Anniversary
« on: July 19, 2012, 05:57:52 PM »
Even though she actually celebrates in...June (ironic isn't it!), June Ward and others were presented with their Anniversary awards this morning.   June has been with Silver Dollar City officially now for 45 years and I just spoke to her.  She was humbled and was so appreciative of all the people who came out to see her.

If you make it to the City (Tuesday - Saturday), stop in and let the "Brown Family" that you heard Aunt June looks younger than her actual time with the City!  It's true!!!

I wouldn't know the lodging line of business priorities, but they are certainly about creating intuitive and integrated styles that blend with the culture and landscape.   Aulani in Hawaii is our first off site Disney Vacation Club property so look for more Disney experiences like that which give you a resort atmosphere, but utilize the natural surroundings at the "attraction"

Hahaha!  Thanks for the pitch Junior.  If this were the early 90's in Branson's "Boom" then we might be talking a different story.  ;)  (thus the origin of all those rumors that won't die).  YES, they have looked at it, and just like Wal-Mart, Disney is buying land smartly all over for revenue purposes so they can sell it later...and who knows, maybe build.   They're too big not to dabble in real estate.

If anything, look for smaller Disney investments around the country in the form of something like Adventures by Disney that give local heritage vacation packages of the area they come into.  Great product and brand that Adventures by Disney has, but another "gate" is dead in the water.
