Random Talk / Re: What are your favorite Soap Operas?
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:53:20 PM »
Anyone remember "Dark Shadows?" I was a little kid and watched it with mom, who was a housewife then. Barnabas Collins was my favorite character. It's funny to watch the videos of it now at how bad some of the storylines and acting were. They did the shows live, and I remember set pieces getting knocked over! This was network television -ABC. Times have changed.
I too remember Dark Shadows. I use to watch the re-runs of it with mom. Even at such a young age, I remember thinking of how poor the acting was and how slow the show seemed to run. Haven't thought of that show in a long time, think I might look it up on YouTube tonight.
I also remember watching The Young and the Restless with my Grandmother when I would stay at her house. At 11:00am you had BETTER turn the channel over to her show! Of course at 6:00 my Grandfather would then take over with "The Wheel." ohh, good times good times!  :D

Last 3 pictures of my Casa Bonita (tulsa) trip of 2009

The first picture is showing part of the cliff at the entrance to the cave room.

The second picture is a major pathway through the restaurant; directs you to may of the themed dining rooms.

The third picture is of the outside facade.

Casa Bonita. Tulsa, OK. (Summer 2009)

The first pic is of a room that is identical to a room that existed in the Little Rock location. Having not been to the one in Denver, do any of you know if this room exist in the Denver restaurant?

The second pic is of "The Waterfall Room." This is obviously a much smaller scale waterfall than the one mentioned in the Denver restaurant; as it does not have the cliff divers. To my knowledge and memory, this room did not exist at all in the Little Rock restaurant.

Casa Bonita. Tulsa, OK. (Summer 2009)

One of the many themed rooms inside the massive restaurant.

Kind of a Spanish Villa themed room.

There use to be a Casa Bonita in Little Rock, then it changed to Casa Viva (pretty much the same). I grew up eating at that restaurant. It was always a favorite of mine to go with my cousins when we were staying at my grandmothers house. A few years ago, I tried to visit the restaurant, just to find out it had closed several years earlier. The sign was still up, and the Facade looked exactly the same. I started researching the restaurant (Casa Bonita & Casa Viva) and found out about the larger one in Denver, and the other one in Tulsa. One weekend, my wife and I decided to take a weekend and go to Tulsa to visit the restaurant. I loved it (minus the food! haha). The floor plan and theme was almost identical to the one in Little Rock. I took around a dozen photos, I'll upload them if anyone is interested. I am SO SO thankful that we took that trip now. From the research I found on the restaurant, it does seem to open and close off and on; so we shall see what happens.

Random Talk / Re: SDCFans Teachers (Snow Day?)

Started snowing pretty good here in the Little Rock area around 9 this morning. Most schools around our area went ahead and closed today, due to the fact that the weatherman said it would get worse as the day progresses.

that was a very good idea to take those pics from that view! I take it you are standing on the second floor of the Woodcarving shop?

Love every single one of those pics! Love the Ice Cream Parlor, with the crisp red of the building against the white snow.

Those 'behind the scenes' photo's of Fire in the Hole are awesome!
Even if SDC took its yearly project/addition and dedicated it to revamping Fire in the Hole to its former glory with all the original tracks in working order, that would be just fine with me!
Thanks for all the info and pictures.

Yes, those ghost did not make ANY since AT ALL.

That is the way it was for most of my childhood. It use to scare me when I was a kid.
It's funny, one day, it just hit me when I was looking up there: "wait, what in the heck does that have to do with a flooded mine!?!"

I wish I could have seen the 'falling rocks' part of the ride. It is, however, driving me crazy how the rocks reset themselves between rides.

So, after all this, I think it is safe to say I would pick "The Great Shootout At The Flooded Mine" over "Fire In The Hole." I seem to be obsesed with the ride, rather it be a Candy Mine, Flooded Mine, Great Shootout, or in some cases a Ghost Mine.

Mom and dad packed up us kids and we went directly to SDC. Ate in the mill...on the second floor. Both the bottom and upper floors were packed, too. Breakfast was good, as I remember it.

Is the second floor of the Mill still open for guest to dine in? Seems like for a long time now, everytime we have eaten in the Mill, the upper floor has been closed off. I still see tables with table cloths when I look up at the balconies. I remember as a young child, it was always a special treat to eat on the second floor. Just seeing if anyone knows anything.
