Random Talk / SDC Dreams
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:11:41 AM »
Have any of you ever had dreams about SDC? I do, and they tend to be quite frequent. In my dreams, the park never looks completely like it actually does, always kind of a jumbled up version with various things missing and out of place; all the while i know I am at SDC. I am usually by myself in these dreams, trying to find my wife and other members of our family. Even more odd is that the Balloon ride always shows up in my dreams, always in a different place, but it is there...every time.
Anybody else out there with weird/odd dreams about SDC?

Random Talk / Favorite Christmas Movie?
« on: December 07, 2011, 11:34:01 AM »
Hi Everyone,
As we approach this special season, many of us watch our favorite Christmas movies. Rather it be watching it on TV, DVD, or even an old VHS tape, these movies warm our hearts, make us laugh, and put us in that Christmas spirit we all long to have. So what are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

Mine? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation; staring Chevy Chase

General Silver Dollar City Talk / National Harvest Festival 2011
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:26:57 PM »
SDC's National Harvest Festival begins this Saturday, September 10.

We will be going to Branson the 10 & 11, and staying at Eagles Lodge/Homestay Inn.

Via SDC's Facebook page, they will be doing a tribute to the "American Spirit" on the Square at noon on 9/11 in honor of that day.

As many of you have stated, the Harvest Festival is one of the best. I hope to see many American Crafts this year, and am crossing my fingers for good food! Red Gold Heritage Hall typically does Taste of America during the Harvest Festival; with each passing year it has become smaller & smaller with less variety. We shall see what happens this year.

The past 2 days in Central Arkansas have been beautiful, I'm hoping this pattern continues for Branson this comming weekend.

Everyone go out and have some 1880's fun at SDC's National Harvest Festival 2011!

Random Talk / Branson Scenic Railway
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:41:39 PM »
We are planning a Branson Trip for Sept. 10 & 11. In all these years I have never been on the Branson Scenic Railway. We are thinking about getting tickets for the Dinner train on Sat night.
What are y'alls thoughts on the train, good...bad...or other; and especially those who have done the dinner train.
We are just looking for something different to do in Branson, and that was on our "to do" list!
Thanks for y'alls input!  :)

Dollywood Discussion / DollarCityBoy Goes To Dollywood
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:38:40 AM »
My mom, dad, wife & I just returned home from a 4 day trip to Gatlinburg / Dollywood. We had a wonderful time, great sunny weather, and a little cooler than it is down here in Little Rock.
We got our 50% off at Dollywood using our SDC passes, and headed straight to The Spotlight Bakery for coffee & pastries (This was around 9:00 when the park opened). I really like Dollywoods entrance, very pretty with all the flowers & Victorian style buildings. To me, it kinda resembles "Main Street" at WDW. We then toured Dolly's "home on wheels"
and caught the "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 4D Experience." Walking past the former "Inventors Mansion" we headed to "Dollywood Express." That train is HUGE! No skit, no stops, just a train ride through the smoking mountains, but a lot of fun. My mom, wife & I rode the Carousel, while dad watched. Then the wife & I headed down to the scrambler (yea yea...I know :P).We toured Dolly's homestead, then had lunch (1:00) at a BBQ place in Craftsman Valley (this was the original section to SDC). They have the same water clock like we do, next to the Dollywood Gristmill. Then it was up to Blazing Fury. I give a detailed description of it in the "Blazing Fury's Finale Neutered" thread. Then dad & I rode Tn. Tornado, LOVED IT...3 loops and fast! We then headed thru the somewhat new "Wilderness Pass" section where we saw their version of River Blast; ours is much better themed. I rode Mystry Mine by myself. Rode it back in 07 when it was new. Absolutely love that ride, and think it would make a great addition to SDC. After looking at the defunct Timberrr Tower, my wife & I rode Thunderhead. I think this might be one of the fastest wooden roller coasters I have ever been on. This was a great ride, and also think if SDC goes for a woody, it should be something done on this scale. GREAT wooden roller coaster! We then headed back down to “Show Street” to watch the “Gazillion Bubble Show.” Great show with lots of bubbles and lasers. After the show, we headed over to “Jukebox Junction” just to walk around and check out the old cars. We headed back to “Craftsman Valley” just to take in some of the sights of the former SDC and tour the stores. We walked up to the new “Owens Farm” to see the Barnstormer. It is in the location that use to have “Dreamland Forest” (their version of Geyser Gulch), and before that it was “Daydream Ridge” (their version of Tom Sawyers Landing, which had yellow balls instead of blue). About this time it was 7:30, so we tried to have dinner at “The Backstage Restaurant,” but apparently it closes an hour before park closing. We went through “Dolly’s Emporium” (their version of Ozark Marketplace) where I bought a t-shirt/hat combo.
We stayed from open-close and had a wonderful day. All of the employees were nice, polite and helpful. When asked “Do you have a Dollywood Season Pass?” I always answered, “No, but I have a Silver Dollar City Pass.” It always got a laugh or a smile, except for one very nice older gentleman, who responded with “Good enough for me” and gave me the discount!! He was very nice, and we visited with him a good while. It was nice to go somewhere different for a change; the grounds are beautiful, the staff is great, the rides are fast & well themed, but I will always be a DollerCityBoy.

(Pictures to come, as soon as I can find the cord!)

Dollywood Discussion / The Inventor's Mansion
« on: June 09, 2011, 09:29:15 AM »
I found this page while looking up random facts about Dollywood / SDC Tennessee. I am not sure if this topic has been brought up before on our fan site, so sorry if it has. I have known for some time about the simularities between Dollywood and SDC Branson. Blazing Fury (Fire In The Hole) Flooded Mine (Dollywood's is no longer there), Train, etc. But have never known about this "Inventor's Mansion." Apparenty it was there during the SDC days, and a couple of the Dollywood days. It was our equivalent to Grandfathers Mansion. Click the link and read the article, very interesting.

Also, on another Dollywood note, I found a Facebook Page intitled "Petition to bring back the flooded mine to Dollywood." It has about 200 memembers, and its last post I believe was in 2010, but interesting that it was started.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Christmas Themes & Ornaments
« on: May 17, 2011, 01:16:59 PM »
Remember when every Christmas season at SDC had its own theme? Every year there would be a new theme, where all of the decorations were themed toward something. Rather that be Nutcrackers, Snowmen or Angles, every year brought with it something new and exciting.
There would also be matching dated ornaments. My family lovingly collected those ornaments from a span of roughly 20 years. The themes and the dated ornaments stopped sometime in the early 00's.
There are also the pewter dated ornaments, which you can get if you go 5+ times a year as a Season Pass holder. We collect those as well; however, we greatly miss those round themed dated ornaments.
If anyone has any memories or pictures of the different Christmas Themes each year, along with any ornaments, this is the thread to do it!

SDC Memories/ Park History / The Flooded Mine (Christmas of 90's)
« on: November 11, 2010, 10:18:25 AM »
Does anyone remember when the Flooded Mine was converted into some sort of Candy Factory during Old Time Christmas sometime in the 90's? It had some Christmas song playing during the entire ride, and there were candy canes and lollipops everywhere. I remember the line being so long, because everyone wanted to see what the Christmas version of the ride was like. I believe it was only open for one Christmas season, and never returned. I remember it being so amazing, that would be cool if they brought that back one year.
