This embarrassed teacher did not do what she tells her students to do all the time - read the directions!  Hmmm...top five means...top five - not two! Sorry!

No. 3  Improving my time in the 5K each year!  Hey all!  A wheelchair only has one speed - that's       quite an accomplishment NOT to come in last place!!

(These last two came from my husband).

No. 4  While visiting the park on our honeymoon (Fall), they announced that the park would stay open an extra hour or two to accommodate the enjoyment of guests.

No. 5  Coffee and cinnamon rolls at Eva and Delilah's Bakery.

Story time!  My favorite part of the day!  Guess what I am???

Many moons ago, when the kids were little, we arrived at the park very early on a beautiful fall morning.  A skunk just woke up from his sleeping headquarters on Main Street and was walking around.  My biologist husband told us to slowly back away.  A couple of women commented on how cute it was...and "Oh, look! They even have animals in the park. Let's take a picture!"  We didn't stick around long enough to see what happened!  BAHAHAHA!  (Sorry - it still makes us laugh!)

A good friend and her family were visiting the park when a bird decided to fly over and...uh...poop on her husband's head.  They laughed so hard that it made him mad, and he left.  Being the good sport that he is, he returned shortly wearing a clean shirt!

Sylvia was of no help at all with an alternate route!  ??? I might think about replacing her with a man's voice.  I can buy "John Wayne" for a small fee, but I'd rather spend that money on a Sullivan's cinnamon roll.

True story!  Two summers ago, I was using my GPS to look for an alternate route around St. Louis traffic on my way to Branson.  (yeah, yeah, yeah - I can drive to Branson blind-folded, but that St. Louis traffic - yikes!).  Anyway, Sylvia (GPS voice) began telling me to "turn around when possible".  GPS was guiding me to Anchorage, Alaska!  So much for a shortcut, huh?

Not sure about the hot chocolate, but I'm guessing ~ probably not yet.  We will be there mid October - hoping the leaves will have color.  As mentioned earlier, take in Headin' West - it's worth waiting in line to see.  Admire the decorations, the sights and the smells.  Find the place that makes sorghum and sample it, visit the fellow that makes the wooden buckets,  walk thru Delilah's Bakery for a "smellavision" experience, then head over to Sullivan's Mill for cinnamon bread. Get yourself a good, hot drink and a place to sit ~ and ~ sit "fer a spell" to take it all in.  Don't forget to listen to Danny Eaken and the Homestead Pickers.  I hope that man never retires.

Pumpkin funnel cakes????  How long have I been missing out on this? Yum!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Alcohol on SDC Grounds?
« on: September 23, 2011, 04:59:57 PM »
I love a good glass of wine with dinner or sitting on my deck watching the night lights, but SDC - NO WAY!  Not even as a chill factor when the basketballs drive me nuts!  It's not the right atmosphere for drinking alcohol.

I've been a pass holder for years, but we can't ever seem to count on getting our newsletter - sometimes it shows up and other times...nada!  We did get a summer newsletter; hopefully, I have it stuck in a corner somewhere and can find it!  Thanks Biscuitcreek for the info!  :) :)

I read on another forum that there are $20 tickets good for up to two people, and they are good thru most of October.  I'm guessing they must have been printed in the latest newsletter.  Anyone know?  My last newsletter was delivered sometime during the summer.  Did I miss a Fall newsletter?  I seem to receive mine sporadically, and I would like the tickets to treat my sister and niece.

Run to the Lights is a 5K held on Nov. 11 after the park is closed.  It supports Caring People, an organization founded by Jodee Herschend, to provide assistance to single moms.  It's an exciting night full of "people who care", rivers of hot chocolate, wassail, and those billions of lights.  Jodee and her husband (Jack or Pete?) present the awards.

One of them (not sure which one) is always present at the 5K marathon held at the City for Caring People.

Thanks!  I could go on and on and on....but I didn't want to bore anyone!

Oh, yeah!  And, I wish they would get rid of those basketballs.  They drive my crazy, but kids love them!

I wish for the return of
- Rube Dugan's Diving Bell
- the gunfights
- big feud between the Hatfields and McCoys
- skillet bowls that have been replaced by Philly steak sandwiches (all over the park)
- walking thru the Treehouse with the twinkling lights
- wedge of cheese that was served at Dine In the Mine and the the dessert tray! Yum!
- the bookstore
- REAL tintypes - not the digital ones they produce now
- asphalt being replaced by concrete
- the clip clop of horses as you walk across the bridge.  Is it gone or broken?
- listening to the taffy making machine in the Taffy Shop
- remember the open air vendors that sold corn on the cob dripping with butter and bbq ribs         (I think they were served on a stick)

I hate - the cold drink cases near the back of the park
         - the higher prices and smaller portions of food
         - cold sandwiches only at Jack's Sandwich Board; no more hot ones - what a bummer!
         - absence of the mile high pies!
         - the condition of American Plunge (my favorite ride)
         - the funky slushie machines that allow you to make your own slushie
         - hot drinks served w/o a lid - I've had a few spilled on me! Ouch!  A mug is essential!!

I love - the crisp morning smell
         - the smell of wood fire in the Fall
         - walking on asphalt thru falling leaves
         - sorghum making even though it's not on main street
         - a billion Christmas lights that twinkle like no other
         - hot chocolate served as "the works" at the place on Main Street
         - Sasparilla in a cold, glass bottle
         - SILVER DOLLAR CITY AND ALWAYS WILL!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Refillable Mugs
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:24:03 PM »
While we were there in August we had our refillable mugs - one stamped $1.25 and one at $1.50.  We were told we had to pay the current refillable price of $1.75 - new policy, even after I pointed out the price stamp.  During one of my "purging phases" I actually threw away a glass mug and one old plastic one stamped $0.75 recently. :(  WHAT WAS I THINKING?????
