General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: New 2012 Season
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:59:45 PM »
Just waiting for that initial feeling of excitement as I hit the turnstile! Coffee and bread pudding at Delilah's, the smells from Wagon Works, and finding a spot on the bench to listen to Danny Eakin and the Pickers.  Bliss!

P.S...and the whooshing of roller coasters in the background, the splash from American Plunge, asphalt, the color green, the smell of pork rinds, and well,...everything else!

DollarCity, I'm with you.  More than anything, I wish for the AP tunnel to be brought back to its finest.  I can't imagine that it could cost that much to refurbish.  It's the small change that I notice the most.
My bucket list:  - Refurbish the AP tunnel
                     - Dump the visible soda machines
                     - Keep the craftsman (dh's suggestion - and mine)
                     - Death to the basketballs and airbrushing
                     - Return of ALL the skillet dinners and offer at reasonable price (Dh's suggestion)
                     - Leave the woodcarvers in current location (again from DH)
                     - Get rid of obnoxious timeshare pitch and Humana signs that ruin good photos
                     - More street shows
                     - Return the Hatfield/McCoy dispute
                     - Offer fish dinners at Owen's Fish Camp instead of burgers and Philly Steak Sand.
                     - Offer the wedge of cheese at Mine Rest. and put on menu at the vendors
(Dh's suggestion)  I told him not to hold his breath on this one!
                     - Hire me as Education Director!  I have some great ideas - Readers Theatre, Turkey Tango, old fashioned kids' games during Kids Fest, take advantage of National Science Day - that's all my secrets I'm willing to reveal!) :)

Happy New Year Everyone!!  Yeah, I like that Apple Butter reconstruction idea, too!  Enough said!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Where In The City? (2011 Season)

Well, maybe those thousands of photos of the City I have taken will come in handy.  I've been in delete mode lately to free up space on my laptop, so I think I will save them.

I remember those days!  Yeah, I guess SDC was the original "flash mob" location.  Those skits were so cool; if only they would start that again.

Duelist, that would have to be the best!  I tell my husband "I'm your huckleberry" quite often.
My husband's favorite is PETA - People For the Eating of Tasty Animals.

You'd be just the person to set that up, Tiffany!  :)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Flash Mob
« on: December 26, 2011, 09:41:19 PM »
I was watching a flash mob video that a friend sent me today and began thinking about how cool it would be if someone would put one together at the park.  Think of the possibilities - patriotic songs during July, campy kids' songs during Kids Fest, the Turkey Tango during November...

I remember the "Who Shot J.R.?" shirts; as hindsight, I'm thankful I didn't own one.

My husband cracks up every time I begin ironing SDC bags.  It looks so nice tied with big fat red ribbon.

I really miss the Treehouse.  Wouldn't it be nice if they would renovate it?

I agree with you, Rube.  At a Masters + 16 post grad hrs., it's disheartening to learn he makes my salary in 3 games!!!  And, I guarantee I work as hard as he does!  Yesterday with the Christmas Concert we put on last night I worked a 13 hr. day.  Don't know much about his restaurant, but a store at our local mall is GIVING AWAY all Pujol's merchandise tonight.  I have a stack of papers to grade, a new student that showed up yesterday with an IEP and goals to plan for her, and an RTI document that I need to produce for a meeting after school tomorrow....so, I won't be making a trip to the mall tonight.  Hopefully, his departure will free up some money so the Cards can bring in some other players that will make for a better future.

Tiffany,
Thank you very much for your concern -  I am in no way offended!  Trams gave me an avenue to speak my mind, and I did it!  And,  I'm glad she did!  I know the PTB read these forums, and sometimes that's the best way to get a message across. My response did sound a little defensive, but it was late at night, and I jumped on the bandwagon.  I should have re-read it before I posted.

You are right about the Opera House, though.  The friendliest people do not work there.  I posted somewhere else on here about getting stuck in there while my husband got locked out trying to find my wheelchair after an employee moved it. I'm sure crowd control is tough to handle, but they should have lots of experience by now - it's the end of the season.  Trams and I decided that we're going to be co-presidents and turn that place around for them! :)  (Hope we get a big salary!) LOL

I hope you enjoyed your trip!  Other than fly fishing, there's no place I'd rather be in Missouri during any season!!
