Frontier City is Definitely teasing a new ride for next year. I'm not completely sold on it being a super loop though...just because it looks like it is going to go in between the Time Warp (Chance Inverter) and the Prairie Schooner (Swinging Ship) and the height also looks a lot taller than a super loop.......but it's a picture and you can mess with camera angles, so who knows.

They just said it's going to be cOOl........so the OO might mean lOOps. I wish they would give us a decent drop tower, that is what the park is really missing since they removed the two they had before.

The photo is from Frontier City's Facebook Page.

Wow, it's just amazing how much better things look by just clearing away the brush.

The lower queue on wildfire is full. First time I've seen that in years. Haven't checked anything else out yet but I'm sure it's all packed out.

Were they running one train? Last year we went the line was out the door and the lower and upper queue was full, but they were only running one train.

I've never been to Union Station but the pictures look like a partially covered roof structure.......is the rest of the roof of the structure glass?

I've never been impressed with something that resembles the shape of a tree, but in no way really looks like one. I know my opinion doesn't hold much, but what I'd like to see is a very big artificial tree that looks like a real tree and has a really nice LED light show. I think it's pretty amazing what some of the new LED lights can do on Ferris Wheels....now just use that same technology and put it on a 70' Christmas Tree.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2015 season passes
« on: November 07, 2014, 02:21:27 PM »
I know some parks allow you entry for the rest of the 2014 operating season when you purchase a 2015 season pass. Does this work for The City's 2015 season pass? Also, does anyone know the price 2014 season pass holders pay for an additional single day ticket?

With a 2014 Season Pass I think you can get a $5.00 discount on any full price ticket you purchase at the front gate.

If Frontier City would just put Wildcat back to the layout it had when it opened, that would be a major plus for the park. The third hill it had a double up and the return trip had tunnels and double down heading into the "splash" effect. I can't remember the year, but the ride had developed quite a bit of wash boarding so they re-tracked the ride and removed the double up, as well as flattened out the return run.....and changed the double down into a brake run.

I haven't been to the park since before installation of Steel Lasso....so things might have improved quite a bit since that time. I almost made a trip this year based on the improvements I had seen posted by the park, but my kids would rather make the 3.5 hour drive to SDC instead.

Maybe next year we'll make it to the park, but to make it a no brainer for me I'd really like to see them someday construct a new GCI, or even a GG junior coaster, or if they can afford one of those new Chance Hyper GT-X coasters that would even be better.

But before a new coaster, I bet they spend money on a new concert venue, drop ride, or expansion to Wild Water Works.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: TV program to feature SDC

Branson sees 8 million visitors a year... SDC only sees a forth of that.

I figured there had to be a miscommunication in there somewhere. The program says "the park receives over 8 million visitors annually" which I thought wasn't correct. But even if they received 1/4 of that.....2 million is still pretty good (Considering SFMM, SFGAdv, and Busch Gardens are in the 2 to 3 million visitor range).

One thing I didn't know that was mentioned on the program was the fact that SDC sees over 8 million visitors per year. That's an incredible number for a seasonal theme park. I was completely amazed by that fact mentioned in the show, I had to rewind and watch again and again just to make sure I heard that right.

If you check out this site of attendance for parks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amusement_park_rankings
That would put SDC right among Disney California Adventure and Universal Islands of Adventure and in the top 15 parks in the world.

So, I'm guessing that fact might have been a little inflated??

General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC/Branson work advice
« on: October 27, 2014, 03:26:41 PM »
My son graduates from high school in May and he mentioned last night that maybe he'd like to work in Branson for the summer. He is wanting to go into Performing Arts for a career and thought that Branson would be a great introduction for him into that field.

He's been involved with church choir, jazz choir, mixed choir, show choir, received all state vocal honors, been part of musicals, plays, etc. He's performed with Clay Cooper, Sandi Patty, Kristen Chenoweth and loves being on stage. He plans to attend college and receive degrees in performance and education.

Not being of the area, where would he find audition information (is there a Branson publication, or just news paper) and what about summer housing?

I'd like see if he has a plan, I know he has a lot of stuff (miniature golf course, rides, etc.) just sitting around the site or in a stage of unfinished installation. He'll have a lot of ideas on what he'd like to do....but try to find out what he really can do next.

Have you ever been out there when the rides have been operating? I wonder how many people actually ride?

Branson Talk / Re: Grand Palace sold.. ...(maybe)
« on: October 20, 2014, 03:10:41 AM »

Wait, all that's missing a casino.

True, but I wonder if the concept could work without the casino part? I know we'd be more attracted to a nice entertainment area that was like a casino but without the smoke and gambling....but I'm not a gambler. My dad on the other hand just needs a gas station with a small casino attached, he could care less if there was any other attraction besides the slots.

i just hope that Branson doesn't ever build a casino. I'm sure it would work out great for the developers, and a lot of people would love it, but it would also be the end of the Branson we all love....

The big country acts are selling out arenas that seat 18,000+, I do not ever see Grand Palace doing this. But maybe bigger isn't what is needed?

In Tulsa, in addition to an 18,000 seat arena, we have Cain's Ballroom, Brady, Spirit Bank Center, several Casino's, the PAC 's in Tulsa and Broken Arrow, and the Joint. The Joint seats about 3,000 and is always hosting events...Joan Jett, Dolly Parton, Hall and Oates., Duran Duran...these are not your top acts, but one that could fill a theater of 3000.

Maybe remodel a part of the complex into a "Toby Keith's Bar and Grill" and attach a new hotel or other attraction to the complex as well. Then remodel the theater into a 3000 seat facility and focus on bringing that mid level artist to Branson.

I'm Not real familiar with the theaters in Branson, but there seems to be some other good size venues vacant as well. So, maybe it might be best to just start over.

We went on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and there wasn't anyone assigning spots, except for FITH. During the this year I've been to Outlaw Run and have had the attendant and not had the attendant, so it might be more of a capacity issue than anything. Disney has been doing that assigned seating for years, so I bet it does go faster.

For example, on Wednesday the PK the station was full, but several times the train was sent out with empty seats (a lot of single riders or groups of three)....then once they sent out a full empty row because groups wanted to ride together. So I could see how the assignment would actually make the lines move better.

As for our trip, on Wednesday the park was dead. At 4:00pm you could marathon Outlaw Run, the station was completely empty....same with WF. PK had a small wait (10 min), but they only had one train going. The stores were empty, no lines anywhere. Paid parking was even 1/2 price (I'd never seen that). The park was clean, and the toy shop was 50% off pretty much everything in the store (So added a few stuffed animals to my daughter's collection).

Thursday was a different animal. The park was busy by 11:00 and the lines were only getting longer. The lines for the food were blocking pathways, and I developed a stomach virus the night before so I was ready to get to the hotel by 3:00 that day. Thank goodness for the kids they rode so many rides the day before they were happy and ready to head out too. I did pick up some great deals on some Halloween and Autumn décor (one of the main reasons I love going to SDC). They were also putting the Christmas lights on the Ice Cream Parlor....I didn't think they would do this while guest were in the park, but they had about 8 people on ladders and hanging lights around.

We stayed at Deer Run right next to the park (it was cheap and close) and on Friday we left for Showboat around 10:30 and Parking lot stop 6 was almost full and some cars were going to stop 5. While at Showboat I heard the staff there say that SDC was getting slammed...which I could believe just looking at the line of cars trying to get to the park and the number of people already there.

Showboat was a good deal with the 1/2 price SDC Season Pass tickets. It was my first time ever going and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I expected. My son is in show choir and I really think their show was better than the show that was put on by the Showboat.......but the talent on the boat is great, it's just not what I expected as a "show". Here is a link to the show choir show if you have a few minutes to spare http://youtu.be/rE6fu8Ge-Ys

We had a great three days, did SDC two days, Showboat, the outlets, landing, the track, Grand Shops, and ate at Old Chicago's and Mel's. Will head back sometime in December and then count down the days until spring break 2015.
