Other Parks / Re: Frontier City Developments
« on: August 03, 2015, 07:32:04 PM »
Took part of the family to Frontier City for the first time in forever. I really think it might have been 9 years ago since my last visit. The park really hasn't added too much (brain drain, steel lasso, winged warrior, quick draw, and wild west water works) and lost a few things (mindbender, swings, hangman, nightmare, sling shot, time warp).

One thing I did notice this time around, that was different from our last visit, is only one ride wasn't operational - everything else was working great. Eveything was looking great too! Clean, landscape looked good, buildings looked good, employees were nice, the park is definately better than 9 years ago.

What made it even more amazing to me, was the park was able to maintain a great atmosphere despite being outrageously crowded. Now if you don't know who R5 is, just know they are the new rage of all the young girls in America.....and all the families and parents of these girls were in the park today (us included) to see the free R5 concert.

To give you an idea on how crowded it was, the asphalt parking lot was completely full, as was the old RV park, and the big empty grass lot south of the park, and all the vacant lots to the north of the park, etc. If you could fit a car somewhere, it was filled. But inspite of the crowd, the lines moved, you were served at the resturants, and the place was clean.

Anyhow, if this park can bring crowds like this in each weekend, then invest in a new bigger ticket attraction (shot tower, coaster, etc.) they could really become a nice little park. Seems like they might finally have the right management group running the park.

I just wish someone would post pictures of the backside of the hill......I'm assuming that is where a lot of construction has been occurring and they are doing a great job of hiding it.

If that's the case, then they could easily construct the front half of the hill, station, etc. in a few months time to get it open by March.

I'm now hearing rumors of a fourth 2016 RMC roller coaster......Dollywood, Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and ???? Is Wildfire still a go for 2016 or has that been moved to 2017?

Just making an observation on the Dollywood Project, and I'm wondering if it's really going to be the "huge" coaster that everyone is wanting, or just a gimmick coaster (which are still cool) like Top Thrill Dragster.

The reason I ask is; if you look at the time line of Outlaw Run, or even Fire Chaser Express.........those coasters were much further along in construction in the previous year of their opening. In December of 2011 land clearing had already started for Outlaw Run (for a 2013 opening). Footers and a lot of station work, etc. were already complete by March of 2012.

If you look at Dolly's new coaster - it's August and the station is not as near complete as Outlaw's was at this time, nor the number of footers installed, or structure constructed, etc.

Unless there is a very large amount of the coaster already constructed behind the hill.....or the opening date will not be in March of 2016, I just do not think this will be the scale of a ride that we all would hope to see.

RMC though could have shortened their construction time frames significantly.... If you look at last year their rides didn't really get started until August....but they didn't open until June either. So maybe RMC can pull it off, but I would think if it was going to be a really big coaster we would have seen more by now if it was going to have a March 2016 opening.

Anyway, just my random thoughts and observations....

go to Stone County GIS site:
https://stone.integritygis.com/

You might need to download some software to make it work, but on this site, you can see who owns what in Stone County.

Most of the land Silver Dollar City (and most of Section 29) is shown to be owned by School of the Ozarks and Presbyterian Church. https://hyperlink.integritygis.com/stone/prc/12-9.0-29-000-000-001.000.pdf

There is land owned by Silver Dollar City, LLC https://hyperlink.integritygis.com/stone/prc/12-9.0-30-000-000-001.000.pdf

And some owned by Silver Dollar City, INC. https://hyperlink.integritygis.com/stone/prc/12-9.0-29-000-000-001.003.pdf

Anyhow, go to that first link.....go to the navigation tab, zoom into the area you want to view, highlight the Rectangle Identity tool and then start clicking around the map. This will tell you owner, etc.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2015 Trip Reviews
« on: July 19, 2015, 01:42:50 PM »
Just finished a week long trip in Branson for 10U Softball World Series. I don't know why, maybe because of all the growth from the rain, but hillsides and everything just seemed more full, clean and beautiful. There are a couple areas that need work, but overall I thought Branson looked better.

We had opening ceremonies on Monday night in Echo Hollow, it was humid and hot, but we stil had a load of fun. SDC is a great host and the kids loved hitting the huge beach balls all around the theater. The Harlem Globetrotters were the entertainment and I couldn't tell you how many of our girls didn't know who they were.....after the show they were interested in learning more, but I was really surpised on how many had no clue.

Maybe I'm getting older, but I just really had a great time this week. We stayed at Pointe Royal and the condo was nice as was the pool. We spent a lot of time here and at the Branson Rec Plex for games. On some of our free time, we went to Branson Landing and had a great time (bought some strawberry basalmic vinegar and lots of candy). Watched the fountains and fire, and walked around. I had been to the landing several times before, but this time was the most pleasent.

Other nights we did go carts, outlet mall, Pasghetti's and Tequila's 2. I was pleasently surprised by Pasghetti's, this is now one of our go to resturants when in town - we all enjoyed our dinner very much. I thought it was going to be more of a "kid" place, but I was wrong. There is a little kid section, but nothing that would make it like an Incredible Pizza or D&B. Tequila's 2 food was very good, but their service wasn't all that great, but it wasn't horrid either....if you wanted or needed anything, you had to ask, it was not just brought to you.

Most of our time was spent at the ball fields, or waiting at the condo between games, but on Wednesday we did get to go to Silver Dollar City. This too was a great time - but with a big group it does make it challenging. My thoughts on Fireman's landing: it looks good and it is perfect for the young ones. My group was made up of 10/11 year old girls so we did not spend much time in there at all...nor did we spend much time in the Grand Expo. They loved Fire in the Hole, Outlaw Run, Wildfire, American Plunge, Thunderation, and Lost River. These rides they would just return into the line time and time again. Poweder Keg was having issues, but they didn't seem interested for some reason. We had a little down time because of lightning, so I took them to make candles. Several of the girls, even though they come often, had no clue that shop was even at the park (this is something my family does every visit). The park looked great, the ride operators were doing a great job, and I really enjoyed myself (just wished we had even more time).

Anyway, we finished second in Nationals on Saturday, did a quick jaunt at the outlet mall, then headed home. I was a little disappointed in the Outlet Mall, just because it seems like there are not the deals that used to be at these places. The stores are not outlets anymore, just specality stores. When you pick up a pair of shorts at Nike and they are still over $40 bucks, and I can purchase them less at my local sporting goods store, I may not have a reason to return here in the future.

Rumor has it to be Roar at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

If it truly is Roar, I wonder then if Six Flags America will get the first RMC clone in 2017?

Not sure if this verifies a new RMC at Dollywood, but seems to match the rumors....

They probably don't think about it because of the Flooded Mine is really a large ride through shooting gallery.....and the PTB probably figure they have that covered.

But I'd still pay to play if SDC had one that's done as well as the one in the video.

The main part of the ride was constructed in a single day......not sure how much other construction they have left, but I'm guessing they will have it open by Memorial Day.

But they work in the park though, and they tell me all rumors

Hon. They tell you whatever it takes for you to go away. I'm sorry for being so blunt but they don't know and they don't care.  They just want to do their jobs in peace.

Laroy might be right Swoosh. Have you ever even been to Siver Dollar City? Laroy seems to have a inside source...no one else around here can claim that ;)

They also need some kind of scary, dark ride. I feel like none of the rides are scary enough for me during Halloween. They need a scary festival or some kind of Haunted House. Not many parks do that!

Silver Dollar City would have to lose one of its current festivals to add a Halloween festival. I feel that people would much rather have the National Harvest Fesitval than any "scary" festival. If people really want a Haunt attraction they can just go to any of the CF parks. I think we would lose guests at the park if we changed any of the festivals to a Halloween one because they aren't unique.

I'm not familiar with really any haunts around Branson that time of year, it seemed like everything is tied into crafts and the fall foliage. Are haunts popular around that area? Didn't there used to be a haunted house attraction in West Branson - is it still there? Has anyone been to the Castle of Chaos?

Maybe Silver Dollar City could develop a show for that time of year - kind of like they do at Christmas, or maybe even make it a full year long production. One of my favorite shows I have seen is "Forever Plaid"  - it's about a singing quartet that dies on their way to a show. I wouldn't think they would pay for the royalties for a show like that.......but SDC could build an old funeral parlor and have a show that features singers that are "trapped in time" and can't pass into the next life until they perfect their show. I think that would go great with the musical comedy that Branson is known for. And maybe if you did it during the fall, a creepiness could be added to it to play off the Halloween season.

Anyway, here' a trailer for "Forever Plaid" if you're not familiar with the production: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=forever+plaid&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=51BAB6325878F49AFB5E51BAB6325878F49AFB5E
