2 of my kids where ready to go an hour after getting there today :/   They rather be back in the car with their ipads.  SDC has tough competition these days for their attention.

When I was a kid I was so excited to get there I couldn't stand it.  I felt it was the end of the world when I had to leave.   Come to think of it I still do!

I was the same, I would sit for hours and study maps, counted down the days until we left for either Six Flags or Silver Dollar City. Kids are definitely different these days and I tried to talk them into going this last weekend, but they just wanted to stay home. Maybe it's because we have them going constantly (school, practice, church, etc.) that when they have a down day....they want to do nothing.

We went to Disney a few years ago, and the oldest kids wanted to leave right after their phones went dead.....I wasn't very happy.

Pokemon Go was a great game for parks, let the kids hunt for Pokemon while they were in line for rides, etc. Sea World had Pokestops all through the park and some were at locations within their attractions. If parks could figure out games such as Pokemon Go so the kids were interacting with their phones while in line for rides, or searching for clues throughout the park, etc. I think it would keep them interested.....Maybe something that even helps with the story line of the ride, or park, etc.

I'm really wanting to get up there sometime this year to see the construction, I just might have to go by myself.....

I don't know if we'll ever know how much blame they deserve for the Lightning Run trouble, but HFEC probably isn't running back to them regardless.

Don't forget that Outlaw Run had quite a bit of problems that first year and they had several months of testing available to them prior to opening the ride. I know it wasn't as bad as the Lightning Run trouble....but things were not perfect.

Rumor had it that the first T-Rex would be installed in 2017....maybe with the trouble that RMC is having it pushed it back to 2018? Anyhow, I'm ready for whatever it is.

I've been to the Six Flags Over Texas Holiday in the Park many times. My family loves going, but not for the same reasons they like to go to SDC.

The Holiday shows at Six Flags do not compare to the ones at SDC. The lights at Six Flags are not on the same level as SDC. Six Flags will have some very nice areas, and has the snow hill, but the park on a whole is no where close to the production SDC puts on. I do like all the holiday food booths that Six Flags sets up, but SDC's food is already good.....The difference is Six Flags brings out a lot of holiday favorites and specialties that are really good.

The area where I think Six Flags totally fails is with their shops. I love to shop SDC at Christmas time. I've spent several hundreds at SDC during Christmas, but have yet to buy much of anything at Six Flags.

Also, during Holiday in the Park at Six Flags not all the park is open......

Dollywood proves that HFE are capable of doing major updates and upgrades yearly....but also is a sign that SDC is not their primary focus.  SDC has to deal with the fact that the Branson tourism market isn't as big of a growth market as PF (in my slightly educated opinion).

I'm not an expert on SDCs attendance but it seems that SDC is already busting at the seams each weekend without the yearly updates (and with price increases).  I don't think SDC 'needs' a new ride to survive or to increase attendance/profit.   I've always been curious about the market research behind the Branson market and the capacity that the park can handle. I also wonder about when SDC will go do a Disney-like demand system pricing (ex...Saturday one day tickets more expensive)

I think also, you have a higher quality competition for guests at Dollywood than you do at SDC. Dollywood is in close proximity to some really good parks: Six Flags over Georgia and Carowinds. Also, King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World are not that far away either.

SDC's closest competition is Worlds of Fun which we know ranks way below Carowinds, and Six Flags St. Louis which is also on the lower tier of Six Flag's parks. I bet if either one of those parks started to really develop into destination parks, you would see some impressive growth at SDC (similar to what Dollywood has recently accomplished).

So to build on what you said, SDC doesn't need a new ride to increase attendance/profit and survive. I think SDC could get it's biggest bang if they helped with the parking congestion and the way they handle the crowds at the park. Those are my biggest concerns when I go...if those were eliminated, I bet you would see another huge attendance boost, just because SDC could handle the crowds better which would help with customer satisfaction.

Dollywood Discussion / New for 2017 - Tailspin Racer
« on: August 16, 2016, 10:47:41 AM »
Dollywood announced today that their new for 2017 attraction at Splash Country is Tailspin Racer. Maybe SDC's announcement isn't too far away.

I don't recall any mention of this being an indoor attraction on any level. And no one here knows with certainty what is on the horizon.

Sorry, It was Shave's post where I got indoor part....

They might no go the G-fighter route, but there are plenty of ways to do something in the same vein as MM. Mack and Zierer make similar rides, plus there's always a B&M dive coaster. Hopefully this spinning coaster concept won't be the last time they look at mostly enclosing a coaster.

I need to re-read the concepts, but with the time machine and the bull, I definitely got the spinner vibe, but with the silver mine...It looked more like the euro-fighter to me.

Maybe I'm not in the know enough to know what's going on, but it looked like from my survey that the mine concept was already zeroed in on because that is where all my questions came from. The other two concepts were just thrown in there to compare against the mine. Did everyone else's survey do the same?

Also, Swoosh mentioned that this was a completely indoor concept.....which seems to go against what is currently being constructed. Could we be getting a couple coasters in back to back years?

They can just do what they did for river blast........announce it, then push it back a year.

I find it interesting that they are already putting stakes in the ground for a project that might be opening in 2018. Unless this project is so huge it takes 2 years to build, but even the biggest steel coasters don't take that long for construction.

I wonder if what we are hearing is a combination of many projects, some opening in 2017 with others in 2018?

And why would they need a new access roadway? Don't they already have a roadway that is in that general area? Or will they be taking out their current access roadway for one of the new attractions?

Jay

253
I'm still pondering about the station though. Like I've mentioned, the markers make a pretty tight loop around the bathrooms before joining up again side by side farther down the hill. When you imagine the big B&M track there, there's very little space for a boarding platform. Unless it has short trains...

Perhaps there's still a possibility that the station will be over by GE instead. There's no telling where the markers extend to yet.

Shave, you say the markers join together further down the hill.......could this possibly be a turn around for an out and back type coaster or maybe like the helix on top of the cliff of Superman at Fiesta Texas? I'm sure you looked, but were there not any CL markers by the GE?

Jay

254
Is that a C L before the word coaster? What does the C L mean?

CL means "Centerline"...........so that would mean center of the track.

This larger picture by Swoosh shows more of the construction by the roadway. This one does show the work being more level right next to the road (not necessarily a hole like the TPR picture showed). Access roadway at this location looks to be more feasible.
