Random Talk / Re: Joplin Mo. Tornado 2011
« on: May 23, 2011, 09:50:05 PM »
Many people are saying that sanddunerider.  I have thought that many times.  It destroyed at least 10 dentist offices that would have been full on weekdays.  That's not to mention the dialysis buildings, plastic surgeons, pediatricians, OBGYN, and Cancer center offices.  All would have been full on weekdays.  There were actually quite a few people out eating (not normally like that on a Sunday at 5:30 pm) since Joplin had their graduation that day.  Thank goodness that was held at the university.

I don't even know what to say here.  I live in Carthage, 10 miles away from St. John's hospital that was destroyed in the tornado.  The pictures make me physically sick.  I'm sitting here crying while watching this on the national news.  We had hoped to wake up this morning finding it was a bad dream.  It's not.

25 to 30% of the town has at least moderate damage.  There are very few medical offices left.  The saving grace is that those business were NOT open since it was Sunday.  It destroyed a Walmart, Academy Sports, 2 Walgreens, a Pizza Hut, and many, many, many more businesses aren't even there anymore.  The Rescue workers can only identify where they are buy GPS because there are no street signs left.  They are asking people to mark their houses someway so that they can identify where they are.

We are fine.  We have many friends and family that no longer have homes left.  We are scared because they say this could happen the next 3 days.  A severe storm is headed this way...again and it is only 7:05 am.  As soon as it moves through, I am on my way to the volunteer command center to volunteer any way I can.  As soon as we can get there, we will be helping our family sort through their debris.

Please be praying for these people.  If I'm scared, I can't imagine what they are feeling right now.  As I get more official news, I will try to update you all.

I had forgotten they used to be glass.  Now I remember that I used to get stuck carrying them since riding roller coasters made me really sick.  I thought of it as a punishment.  lol

Branson Talk / Highway across Table Rock Dam to close for 2 weeks
« on: April 30, 2011, 03:50:34 PM »
http://www.carthagepress.com/news/x602919985/Highway-across-Table-Rock-Dam-to-close-for-14-days

BRANSON, Mo. —
Highway 165/265 across Table Rock Lake will close at 6 a.m. Tuesday for 14 days while repairs are made on the downstream embankment of the dam.

Repairs are necessary because recent heavy rains have caused surface “skin” slides of topsoil that covers the embankment.  The dam is sound, but the slides must be repaired.

Officials at the Army Corps of Engineers Table Rock Project Office said they regret any inconvenience this may cause, and they ask for public cooperation until the work is complete. The officials ask travelers to plan alternate routes and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

The closure is being coordinated with emergency services and law enforcement agencies.

If we go Memorial Day weekend (which we will be!), we go on Monday.  We notice it tends to be much slower than the rest of the weekend and most times, we never wait in a line.

I would be in a show.  Doesn't matter which show.  In fact, I wouldn't even mind working the technical side.  I almost tried for that after high school, but decided that I would go to college and then move to Branson and do it.  It never happened.  LOL

Good job Zalo 9!  That's what I was referring to.  Guess I need to be more specific next time!

We are headed down the 15th.  We are hoping it isn't as crowded that day as it is on a normal saturday or sunday.
