I agree Rube.  The mechanism did seem to be new.  Mine stuck a lot and wasn't easy to shoot.  Oh well.  It will take awhile for them to get worn in.

We got SDC Honey Blackberry, Dr. Pepper BBQ (I have looked everywhere for this stuff!), Bethany Blue's BBQ Pit Papaya Grillin' Sauce, and Edward's Surrey Sloppin' Sauce.  I wish I could find a watermelon BBQ.  I hear grilling chicken with watermelon is spectacular!  We tried the honey blackberry today.  It is definitely sweet.

Trip Report-Monday May 30th

We got to the park around 10 and left around 1:15.  We paid to park, because getting the wagon and 2 kids off or off the bus or tram is enough to make me crazy!  We got there and I realized that I had no idea where my pass was.  That's right!   One day at White Water and I had already lost my pass.  The Guest Services worker was great and they replaced my pass for free.  The lines at the front gates moved quickly.  Our only problem is that we couldn't move because people kept stopping just after the gates to decide where to go next.

We went to the BBQ tent first and bought 4 bottles of BBQ sauce.  I love half price sales!  Then down to the leather shop.  There was only one person working and the lines were long, but the man working was great!  Bought the kids each a little coin purse.  My parents gave them each a dollar to put in it.  They were so happy!  Our next stop was the train.  My kids haven't been on it since they were 3 months old.  Every time we go, the line is sooo long.  We walked into the depot, waited 5 minutes, and then we were on a train.  They didn't seem quite comfortable with the script yet.  It appeared that maybe they have rewritten it a bit since the beginning of the year.  My kids loved it!

The Shootout was next.  This was the kids' first time.  Caleb loved "shooting the lights."  Cate has told us that it is dark and scary and she never wants to ride it again.  lol  My parents got each child an animal at the new shop.  We are now the proud parents of doggie the penguin and monkey the dinosaur.  Gotta give it up for originality!  They loved Half Dollar Hollar.  The only problem I saw is that the exit only places are not well marked.  If you aren't looking for it to say exit, you won't see it.  They rode the swings and carousel.  The carousel operator was AWESOME!  He made the kids believe they were racing around.  Each animal had a name.  Too funny!  We had to pull Caleb out of the tree house.  He had a huge meltdown because we had to move on.

We went to the Exposition for lunch.  The BBQ lines were so long. We ended up eating at the fair food place.  It was pretty good.  The chicken strips are way better than last year.  We went to get icees, but another meltdown began so it was time to go.  We'll be back again, I think in July.  If someone will tell me how, I will get pictures posted!

Crowds seemed to be light Monday.  Didn't wait in line for anything.  See my post in Trip Reports for what we did!

We assumed that to be the case mh.  Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt or tear up  your feet.  We will have water shoes next time to combat that problem.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to go back today because my sunburn is too bad to be out in the sun again. We will be back the 12th.  Lots of pictures will be taken then!

White Water Discussion / Trip-May 29, 2011
« on: May 29, 2011, 10:44:49 PM »
So, I'm not sure if you normally do an "official" thread on WW visits, but I wanted to update everyone on how everything was going today at White Water.

We got there around noon.  Our first stop was to rent a locker.  There are now 2 sizes of lockers, family size and regular size.  They have reformatted the way you find lockers.  Each key is on a certain color lanyard.  Your lanyard matches the paddle over the set of lockers you use.  Pretty efficient, but they don't have a map of where everything is.  We ended up getting a locker that was far away from where we spent out time.

Next stop-Aloha Bay!  It was great!  I was very impressed with how great it looks.  The only downside is that there are only 2 exit and entrance points.  They are very close together.  However, we saw that there was really no place to put another exit and have it make sense.  The current isn't too strong, but moves everyone along well.  The pictures show it a lot more "active" than it really is.  The spouts that pour out water are easily avoided.  The lifeguards were great, making sure that the teens didn't tip over others' tubes or bump into people, which didn't always happen in previous years.

We took the twins on their first water slide!  They loved it!  Next, a stop at first aid.  Caleb cut his toe.  They were on top of everything and he had a great time showing off his bandaid!  After that, we had lunch at Hannah's.  Prices were great this year and the refillable cup is totally worth it!  The four of us ate for under 20.00.  You can by the cup for 5.99 and then fill it up for .99 for the 2011 season only.  If you get a nice checkout person, they also give you the SDC 10% off, making your refill only  .89.  You can only use this cup at WW.

The kids had a great time in the toddler area.  Dad and I rode all of the slides except the Towers.  I think it's time to get rid of the Bermuda Triangle.  It's really not well used and it is hard for taller people to ride it.  Dad came out with a scraped foot because he couldn't get his legs to switch sides fast enough.  There were always tubes available.

Overall, it was a great trip!  The staff was nice and very helpful.  You may want to take water shoes that you can wear on every ride.  The bottom of the pool areas are really rough, as is the zero entry to Aloha Bay.  It feels like they just took bags of the roughest sand they could find, dumped them out, then painted over it.  Our feet are completely torn up.  That's how Caleb's toe got cut.  It wasn't enough to make our trip bad!

Now, I'm going to sleep so we can have a fun day at the city tomorrow.  Caleb is staying in  my parent's cabin, which means we have a pretty good chance of Cate sleeping til 9!

Thanks for the info!  We won't show up.

We are headed for the City tomorrow (Monday) for the first time this season!  Today we went to White Water.  I'll post something in the WW threads about today's trip.   It was great!

I am not able to get silverdollarcity.com to pull up.  I am trying to find out if they are doing the GAC show on Monday night.  I know they normally do have it every other night (besides Sunday) that they are open, but it is a holiday weekend and they often have special events.  Does anyone know?

Tornado Work-May 27th

I reported to the Bridge this morning to do whatever they needed me to do.  The first thing we did was stack water 6 cases high on pallets, shrink wrapped them, and moved them to a staging area.  There had to have been 20 pallets of water, with approximately 36 cases of water on each.  Unbelievable amounts of water.  We then put together boxes so that families could easily transport the goods that they came for.  When we finished, there were about 75 volunteers with nothing to do.  Many of them left, frustrated because they were begging for help, but had nothing to do after we finished the first task.  I understand they are reorganizing efforts, but I am afraid volunteers will stop coming if something isn't done quickly.  They will go find work on their own.  After logging on to facebook, we found that one of our scrapbooking friends needed boxes, tape, work gloves, and water.  We packed up a friends truck and headed out.

This was my first time in the "disaster zone" for anything but a quick look.  It is unbelievable.  If someone will reply back with how to do it, I will put a few pictures at the bottom so you have an idea of what I saw today.  When we got to Melissa's house, she was so great-full for what we had she didn't even know how to respond.  We had planned on helping her for about 2 hours, but she just needed to be with her family.  So I took my nephew Shea (13), the extra work gloves, and a case of water and started walking.  We saw many people that just needed support.  Our work gloves were gone in no time, because they are out at every store in Joplin.  Many people are working in the debris with bare hands.  Many medical personnel are focused on just taking care of infected cuts at this point in time.  We were going to get tetanus shots today, but they have run out.  We are hoping that there will be some tomorrow so that we can get ours.

Once we were out of water and gloves, we drove around, looking for people that were in need of help.  The streets were pretty sparse of people, so we just kept driving.  At 20th and Rangeline, a major intersection, we saw a group of rescuers standing on top of what we believe to be the building where The Big Nickel, a classifieds paper, was housed.  We aren't completely sure that's what it was though.  They had a dog with them.  An ambulance and firetruck was also there.  They were digging.  We assume that the got a hit from the cadaver dog that was with them.  They did not appear to be in a big hurry, but you could tell they were focusing on clearing a certain area.  We never did see them find anything, but they were still digging when we left.  I pray that they don't find anything, but I'm almost positive they did.

As for what is needed, just go back to the post I made before.  You can add work gloves, boxes, and plastic totes to that list.  It is hard to narrow in on one need at this point.  There are dozens of semis coming in this weekend that will be full of stuff.

Junior-check these hospitals:  McCune Brooks (Carthage, MO), Barton County (Lamar, MO), Children's Mercy (KCMO) and both large hospitals in Springfield.  Those are the three they sent people to for sure in MO.

I got back to my house an hour ago after spending the morning cleaning up for family members.  Here is an update on what I did and saw:

I started my morning at the Bridge, a local youth center.  If anyone is looking for somewhere to volunteer, this is where they should go.  They have so much work to be done as they are a major hub for donations that are coming in.  The Bridge unloaded 2 semis last night and there were many more scheduled to come in today and tomorrow.  My friend Kimber and I took a van load of baby goods to LifeChoices, a wonderful organization that helps pregnant women.  When we were done there, we went to help my cousins go through their belongings.  They were very lucky.  Their house is still standing, but will be a total loss due to the house shifting on the foundation.  Their are many things that are stuck in their walls and ceilings that came from other homes, such as crown molding and 2x4s.

At one point we took a break and walked to 26th street.  The closer we go to 26th street, the worse it got.  One of his neighbors' pickup trucks was thrown into a field.  The houses on 26th street used to block  your view of 32nd street.  Today I could see all the way to 32nd street.  It is literally flat.  You can see St. John's hospital well enough to see that the windows are broken out.  Sunday you couldn't even see St. Johns from 26th street.  You could hear people calling for friends and family and trying to locate their pets.  It is a horrendous scene that I hope none of you ever have to witness.  All we could was stand together, hug, and cry because it is just devastating.

Please be praying for the families that lost everything.  There are at least 1500 missing.  This number does include many that just have not been able to contact family yet.  If you know someone that is holding a collection drive and need to know what is needed, here is what I noticed was needed.  If you people running collection drives need someplace to take things, please have them call The Bridge in Joplin, MO.  Officials are worried about sickness as many don't know about the boil order due to lack of communication.

Needed:
PREMIXED formula.  While any formula is needed, premixed is best.  There is a boil order in place.  Most people don't have homes, water, and if they do have water, they cannot boil it because they don't have electricity.

Diapers-everything size 4 and under.

Clothes-2T and under are the most needed a t this point in time.

Car seats-must be less than 5 years old (check the sticker on the bottom) and never in an accident.

Medication-Tylenol (especially infant and children), cough syrup, any pain reliever, aspirin

First Aid-Gauze, Bandaids, Neosporin, Rubbing Alcohol, coach tape, anything that can help take care of workers.

Equipment-Many doctors offices lost everything.  Stethoscopes and Orthoscopes are sorely needed.

If anyone needs information on where donations should be sent, feel free to contact me and I can get you in touch with someone ASAP.

**Note:  I am not soliciting donations.  I have had many questions from all over the US about these items, so I am just putting it out there as an FYI.
