Branson Talk / Re: Branson Tornado
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:27:47 PM »
Hit the strip yesterday.  I didn't want to go.  Brings back memories of May and spending so much time in Joplin to help clean up.  Anyway...The damage is worse that I had thought.  Many buildings that are just behind the main drag are damaged or down.  My dad said what many of us did..."Why couldn't it have done everyone a favor and taken out the Grand Palace?"  lol!  Anyway, we didn't make it any farther than Tanger.  The kids were too fussy, especially the baby.  I do have many pictures and will try to post some in the next few days.  They have done a great job on the cleanup.  To answer a question that was posted earlier, I don't think there is anyway that Ozarkland can be saved.  It is gutted and topless.  Not sure if they will be rebuilding.  I think it is honestly too early to tell what they will try to save or what will go.  Most won't even have insurance estimates, etc yet.  It will be interesting to keep an eye on what happens over the next few months.  BTW...FEMA has declared that it is not a disaster.  It has to do with a formula that takes into consideration the number of uninsured businesses and homes.  Branson has strict insurance guidelines from what I have heard and businesses have to prove their insurance so this played into the decision.  I would disagree with FEMA.  It may not be an insurance disaster, but it is certainly a disaster that will have a big effect on the economy this year.

It was great to see you yesterday Paige!  Did you get over to see the TIV and Sean Casey?  Caleb told us that he sleeps very well in his favorite hotel room and wants to know if we can have that room when we come in April.  lol!

Sweet!  We'll definitely do that.  The twins are excited to go again this year.  They are almost tall enough to ride most of the rides.  It will probably be another year for them.

Anna Grace was born on March 2, 2012 at 7:45 am.  7 lb 7 1/2 oz and 21 inches long.

This pic was taken a week ago, so she was about a week old here.

Sad to say we likely will not make it down this year.  Didn't even buy passes.  With baby coming on Friday, that means I'm out of commission for the first 6 weeks of the season and with losing that mount of time due to surgery, it just didn't make sense to buy 4 passes that we wouldn't be able to use much.  We do hope to come down at some point though.

To stay dry on the plunge, you make sure you are the 2nd or 3rd person.  When everyone leans forward going down hill, bend down as far as you can.  The person in front of you and the people behind you get all of the water and you will come off dry to "moist" lol!  I don't ride it because it makes me sick, but I do know how from when I was younger.

Aloha River was fine but honestly, it's just a lazy river where kids go crazy where people want to relax.

Branson Talk / Extreme Cheapskates
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:28:44 PM »
TLC had a show called Extreme Cheapskates on last night.  These people are a little...frugal for me.  lol!  One guy was from Branson and barters for everything.  He decided to help a friend and his fiancee have an engagement party for free.  The friend's name is Josh and he is part of the 12 Irish tenors.  He traded a private performance of an Aria and 2 tickets to a 12 tenors show for a party space, cake, and other sweets for the party!  The other guy refuses to pay for a haircut.  So he walked into a random salon and offered to take out trash and clean the salon for a free haircut.  At least he isn't the woman from KC.  She refuses to buy toilet paper so they just cut up cloth to use as toilet paper.  They wash it and use it again. :o  She also bargain shops for food.  I do that too, but I refuse to use items that are 3 years past expiration!

Tiffiny-

You are correct!  I was just getting ready to post the Glee/Branson reference.  I can still hear Will tell April "The last time I saw you you were headed to Branson."  I love that show!  And you are right about it being referenced in 2 episodes.

I can honestly say that the last 2 times I went, I did not see her.  And before then, we saw her every time!  We probably just went on one of her few days off.  lol

Random Talk / Re: Where were you on September 11th 2001?
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:51:47 PM »
I was a senior in High School in Journalism class.  I was the editor that year and we had to get our first issue out.  A teacher on break came in and told us to turn on the tv.  When I saw the second plane hit, I looked at my staff and said get back to work.  It's just a prank and the video isn't real.  It took us about 2 seconds to realize we were wrong.  I stopped all work on the newspaper to put out an issue with a completely different set of stories than we had planned on.  I had also been working that week, taking care of kids that I babysat for.  Their dad had been in NYC that day and all we knew is that he was supposed to be on a plane.  We had no idea where his connecting flights were headed to, etc.  His flight was 3 minutes behind one of the other flights that hit the WTC.  They landed safely in Atlanta and it took them 4 days to get a car and get back to Carthage.  I also remember that everyone went and got gas.  The lines at the gas stations were so long...

The sad thing is they were the most "normal" of all the people on that show!  lol!  The one that really freaked me out was the doll lady.
