SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: The SDC Citizen "Shorty"

Thanks Y'all.... I appreciate the replies.
He just seems like a model citizen lol
My ex wife & daughter have taken photos with him.

He has been there for awhile now.  Always glad to see him back.  The first time we saw him, probably 97, he was playing an undertaker and it was great.  I believe my dad once asked him if he ever played basketball, and he said he did in college.

While we're at it they need to re-do the end of the flooded mine, the outdoor scene.  Also, I believe you can't go behind the waterfall and I'm sad to say I never did that and I'd like to.  The american plunge just flat needs to be re-done.  Everyone agrees with doing it, I don't see why they wouldn't.  Does the staff have something against re-doing water theme rides?  I would hope not as they get a lot of play in the summer.  The American Plunge is always an attraction due to heat, but I think if they did it up nice they would get wild results in popularity.  When I was a kid it was the biggest ride in the park.  It could be again with some love, and I mean that whole-heardetly, especially in the July-August months.

Would like to say that we had a good stay at the Homestay.  Good clean room with good maid service, nice staff (although we sadly didn't get to meet Paige)...and overall a good breakfast for what you pay for.  Will stay there again when the boat isn't brought down.

Go.  The colder the better if it's not saturday, you'll have the place to yourself and there really is nothing better.  Wow I miss the lonely walks around town already.

Glad to know I'm worthy, thanks!  ;D
I, too, wish I could have experienced the old times at SDC.  Sometimes we see things at the park and Dad will say, "That's what SDC USED to be like."  I wish I could have experienced the float trip especially, which just re-emphisizes the need to redo the American Plunge and improve the float trip part of the ride.  While we probably can't bring back the float trip, we can at least give the entire ride some love because I believe it could pay dividends for the park.

As far as the diving bell ride, that's a big lake and a lot of space, you mean to tell me we can't put it back in there!?  Hogwash! :D

We did go to the fish house, and have been there once before as well.  ALL of the fish there is outstanding, and you really can't go wrong, including the catfish. But believe it or not, I actually thought the Catfish meal is better at McFarlains.  But yes it is excellent at fish house.

Have also eaten at Danna's BBQ multiple times...just didn't make it this time.  It is probably a top three restaurant overall in Branson.  Go there next trip for sure!

Here's a review for Branson for our trip:

First of all, McFarlain's Restaurant is the place to go if you like Catfish!  Went there Friday night after SDC and had to go back tonight because it was so good!  Go Hungry and leave miserably satisfied.

The drive-through light show on shepherd of the hills expressway is not worth the 15 bucks.  If you want a good light so, go to the SOTH light show.  12 bucks a person, but you won't feel ripped off.  It was a good tour and took over a half hour.

psychosaw13: The reason for the title.....well I was stalking this board for awhile before joining, and I saw the high esteem those on this board had for the Diving Bell  ???, and was afraid that me not knowing what it was would be heresy and make me unworthy!  :D

My lady and I arrived at the park on Friday for our first time ever at OTC.  All I can say is "WOW".  From the moment we got in the gates we were really in awe.  I expected it to be good but there's nothing like being there.  We walked around the park and then to some shops and then decided to go to the Opera House for Dickens.  Man what a show!  Really did not anticipate THAT much quality.  The story, the set, live music, singing, acting, etc. etc. the whole production was top quality and spectacular.
We hit the train ride and this was our favorite part of the entire trip.  Goosebumps.  I will never forget this train ride.  What SDC is all about.

Walked around some more, when to the tree lighting which was really cool.  Stepping into Wilderness Church is always a good moment.  There was no late parade due to weather.  It was cold and sprinkling, but I must say it may have been the best time I've ever had strolling the park.  The lady and I walked around at night amongst all the lights and we felt like the town was ours.  There was no one there, and it was wonderful.  We left late with big smiles on our faces.

Got there today (sunday) at 1:00 and went down to the Christmas barn and planned to try our first apple dumplings then hit "It's a Wonderful Life".  Was disappointed to find that the apple dumpling place wasn't open yet...and when someone got there at 1:15 she said she had to get stuff set up then would open.  Well, 1:40 rolled around and the dumplings STILL weren't ready so we decided they did not deserve our business and went into the play.  This is my only complaint of the trip.  The park opens at 1:00, why can't you be open and ready by then?  It's afternoon for heaven's sake.  But it was a teenager and I suppose I did teenager things at that age too.  So I didn't get to try these famous dumplings...next time.

It's a wonderful life was good, not as good as Dickens but it was good.  (goes to show you the talent of SDC as most actors and the director for Dickens are SDC regulars).  Hit the Living Nativity--it served it's purpose.  Watched the lights parade and that was nice.  Wanted to go to the Pickers but it was packed with people; a few grumps gave us the stink eye for even trying to come in, so we decided to wait until summer.  Walked around, bought some Christmas gifts, froze our butts off and left.

It was cold.  But I'm used to it and it added to the "Christmas" theme.  Did not ride a single ride.  Also did not get to see the saloon show--seems as all the shows are at the same time--so it will have to wait until next time.  Not enough time for SDC!

Overall an impressive first trip to Old Time Christmas!  The Lady kept mentioning "next year".  yes!! ;D ;D

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Thank God for Silver Dollar City
« on: November 23, 2013, 09:26:24 AM »
I've been going to SDC for over twenty years, and yesterday I had an experience that was similar than those before, but it was also very unique.  I haven't felt this strongly about it in a long time.  I had to say it somewhere, so I came here because I know you'll understand.
Thank God this place exists.  Seriously.  Yesterday in the park I had to just stop myself and think about how wonderful a place this really is.  It's unlike anywhere else in the world, at least the world I come in contact with and hear about in the news every day.  We still have a place where God is naturally celebrated, unapologetically worshiped, out there in the open air public for all to see.  There is still a place where people care about family values.  As one mother said, our family is just "better" when we come to SDC.  The best part about it is, amongst all the lights, smiling employees, shows, preachin'...it's all REAL.  It's not fabricated, faked, or awkwardly created.  This park is what it is, and it doesn't give a damn what the politically correct might think.

To me, that's refreshing.
So let's all take a moment to stop worrying about the new rides, the banter about the pros and cons about the food, the types of passes and the weather, and reflect on the magical place we have found here and thank God it still exists.

I'll give a full review at a later date.  Thanks for reading my little rant.

Good report biscuit!  Is the water on in FITH or is it dry right now for the season?
