Branson Talk / Re: Tony Orlando moving show out of Branson.

No, Jim Stafford is staying................... UNLESS he and the wife (divorced last year, she got the theatre) cant reconcile..    Theatre has a full schedule for 2104...........Althought there were rumors about snow damage from a overload on the roof???

guess we will see..

Although I did just check his website, there are 3 or 4 shows at his theatre and NOONE has a 2014 schedule posted.,....  that is odd??

HMMM????  inquiring minds want to know..

Oh this is terrible news...I thought Jim Stafford was one of the best shows in Branson.  And throughout the USA, you can't really find someone that has a great music and comedy show centered around good guitar playing.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Chain Restaurants at SDC?
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:12:11 PM »
No, an upscale restaurant won't do well.  And here's why:
People pay money to go to the amusement park.  We don't pay money to go sit at some restaurant for two hours eating a nice meal.  As others have said, there are plenty of places in Branson to do that.  I'll add the White River Fish house to the list.

I also don't bring my own food, because I want to support what SDC has.  Whether it's a quick snack, an ice cream, a caramel nut roll at Eva and Delilas, a burger at Wagon Works or a buffet at the Mine or breakfast buffet...I want to support SDC goodies.  Nothin better than a bow of Calico Potatoes at the Tater Shack.  MMMMMMM  ;D  Good BBQ can be found at SDC, too.

I don't want to see fast food chains.  If we don't support the food that's there...then expect to see a McDonalds in the near future and we'll be complaining that the "SKILLETS ARE GONE" just like we complain about how the craft shops are gone, too.  Why do you think they go?  Because people don't support them.

Why would we expect any different from the food at SDC?  Sorry if this offends some people, but I never really thought that the food there was too outrageously priced, considering it's so accessible in an amusement park and the workers have to be paid from it. Where else can I order some of that stuff anyway?

That baldknobbers issue is scary to think about.  Looks like I'll be booking tickets next trip.

Also, weren't the SONS of the Pioneers at SOTH?  I hope they don't leave...

Saw a lot of "Last season in Branson" bill boards when down for OTC this year.  Sad to hear a popular show leaving town.

I'm afraid SDC might lose their personality if they ever got that big.

Agreed.

NO fast food or chain restaurant would fit at SDC.  Would stick out like an ugly, ugly sore thumb.  I shudder at the thought.

And no, I don't think the food at SDC is perfect, but I certainly won't complain as much as some people will.  I can always find something great to eat.

Well, if the money was there, I'd seriously consider it. But I'd like a guarantee from the PTB that I could do EXACTLY the same stuff I did over 30 years ago...and throw in some new stuff. As for the street entertainment, we could probably do a pretty good job. It would beat what happens there now, but the current troupe members are not to blame...their hands are tied, they are doing what they are told like good kiddies (employees) should. They do well with what it is they are allowed to do. Ah, but it could be sooooo much more! ;)

I wish it would happen.
I have lots of memories of more interaction too, and heck that was 15 years ago.  I'm sure it was even more when Junior was drivin the divin' bell.
Perhaps the reason it seems less is because I'm not a kid, and the street folk do these things more with kids?  I hope that's true.  I still remember many stories, one time a street character stalking my family around town to "gawk" at my sisters and make hilarious proposals to my father for their hand in marriage.  It was good fun, and wasn't inappropriate at all for those wondering.  We had a ball.

Swoosh,

For me it is a personal thing.  I love Indian Point and stay at a resort there every time I visit.  As great as I think SDC is, I worry that taking over all of Indian Point would be too...commercialized?  I guess is the word I'm looking for.

As hazardous as this is to say on an SDC board...the Branson Area is much more than just SDC.

I like the idea of a hotel or something, but the taking over of the entire point would be too extreme for me.

Now, would they do it?  As I said, it's huge risk and reward.  If it's a hit it could be a jackpot.  But if it misses...that could be REAL trouble for SDC with that large of an investment.

As far as products go, keeping anything hand-crafted is a must.  I've also wondered why there isn't a different store that specializes in cowboy hats....like the leather shop, but instead of leather your typical "cowboy" style hat.  No, I don't mean the ugly ones the country music stars and wanna-be's are wearing today, or the cheap 3 dollar ones people buy to keep the sun out of their eyes that you can buy at the hospitality house....good, quality hats.  Handmade ones to boot.  Heck, BOOTS can be sold there too.  I dunno.  I guess I don't NEED it there, just surprised there isn't a prominent one there.

Bill. That sure would be nice, however I feel those days are "gone with the wind".  WHY??
Well the economy is bad. There are still some folks that will pay $hundreds for hats or boots, but most of the general public these days will only pay $hundreds for 2 things--FOOD, GAS/Fuel..

I also imagine HFE would not pay the demonstraters what they deserve, not to mention the actual cost of materials.  Im sure it is much more economically responsible for HFE to buy these low quality items (that is in the SDC shops today) and pay next to nothing for them. then mark them up (probably 150%-250%) and sell them at a ridiculous price to us.

OK that makes HFE right on PAR with every single company in the world today.  Of course we are promised these activities in Revelations/Daniel/others. It is a sign that brings smiles to me when I think of the "final" result. But it sure makes me angry when I think of TODAY only.

Yes I'm sure you are correct.  Just hypothetical wishful thinking, I suppose.  I don't expect to ever see it.  Wouldn't really matter in the scope of ticket sales anyway.  Just thought I'd throw it out there for something I'd like to see...but understand that I probably won't.
I suppose preserving the craftsman and hand-crafted shops they have now should be priority #1.

So what's it gonna take to get the PTB to put Junior in charge of street entertainment at SDC?  I can hope, right?   ;D

I'd like to keep SDC as low-tech as possible, but realize that I won't be getting my way in the future so I'll have to let it go.  For me it's both personal and also so SDC doesn't lose it's identity or niche.  But I suppose there have been updates before that didn't cause severe collapse.

I would also love to see a hotel one day that is on property......or real close so you can walk back and forth. This would get rid of the HWY 76 headache, etc. Also, if they built it so that it could be accessed by all guest (it could serve as a nice break for people to relax and have a great sit down full service restaurant meal.) Maybe with Dollywood getting one, we'll see one soon.

I have long wanted them to move all of their properties out to Indian Point.  They missed out on the chance to have a resort down there where the condos were built.  That would have been a perfect location -- and then move the Showboat Branson Belle's launch point out there AND then build a a completely new waterpark out there.  It would just make more sense to make Indian Point - SILVER DOLLAR CITY Point and just buy out everything out there and turn it into the ultimate resort.

I respect your opinion and see why this could be a huge deal.  But personally, I would hate if Indian Point was bought out and turned into "SDC point".

Very high risk/reward for sure though.

Rubeduggans memories of having children in the family for the first time is hard to beat.

I will say my favorite memory is going for OTC my first time in 23 years of going to SDC.  Walking around with my fiance my first night at SDC with less than 2,000 people there...having streets literally all to our lonesome was perhaps my favorite memory of the park in my lifetime.  I hope to duplicate it someday, but don't expect to.

Riding the train my first OTC.  Chills.

Wilderness Church and speaking with the preacher there.  A great man in a great church.

Seeing DICKENS my first time and being so impressed with the production.  SDC has fine writers, directors, and actors.

Taking the AMERICAN PLUNGE with my 7 year old nephew and my 5 year old niece.  Great times.  Reminded me of the plunge when I was a kid, really.  I really wish they would re-vamp the plunge.  I still think it can be a main attraction...heck it gets great "attendance" in the summer even though it is a mere shadow of what it used to be.

Riding Outlaw Run for the first time..with my father.  I've ridden a lot of rides with my Dad at SDC.  I'm glad I could share this with him.  We both loved it.

Mean Murphy.

Shooting the lost river rapids with my sisters and nephews/nieces.  Brave little souls.  Lots of wet laughter.

Fire in the Hole. The greatest ride known to man.  Ridden with my father for the 2,534th time.  Better than ever.

Shooting targets in the Flooded Mine with my fiance for her first time.

Grabbing a Caramel Nut Roll and an Orange Roll with my fiance for our first time ever eating at Eva and Delilas.  Wow.  Will go every year for one breakfast from now on.  (slobbering right now).

Sharing SDC with family the way we always have.  I really love this place.  Going with my sisters and their kids...remembering old times and making new memories to me is what it's all about.  What a great place to visit.

Honestly if they did some of the "monthly" payment options detailed on this thread that other parks do...wife and I would do it without a doubt.  The two-month payment isn't a bad option, but the continuous 7.50 option would probably keep us as pass holders for a long time, and we would probably only use it two months out of the year.  I plan on calling them this spring and seeing what payment options they have for us.  Hopefully something pleases us.  This is especially beneficial for those of us that don't live in the Ozark area.
