When the tintype shop first opened they did authentic tintypes. There were problems in that it took a long time and were dark. They were quickly replaced with the lighter type. This one is a young me the first year they opened.

Hi SDCF's Thought I'd check in with a new topic. Back in the good ol' days we used to keep track of some of the best Dumb questions that guests asked. This is my invite to anyone who has encountered a dumb SDC question.
Some of my faves were cave questions like:
1: How much of the cave is underground?
2: How many miles of unexplored passageways are there?

Cumberland Caverns: Roy Davis, who was the majority shareholder at Cumberland for the past 50 years, sold his interest in the cave to a former guide, Jim Herschend. Jim is the oldest son of Jack Herschend who is the owner of such attractions as Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, Stone Mountain Georgia, etc. Jim and Jack are also longtime cave explorers from the days when Marvel Cave in Branson was their only business. A new Board of Directors has been formed by the Herschends to operate the cave. The Board consists of Jim and Jack plus Roy Davis and Ed Yarbrough, a caver and Nashville attorney. I was asked to fill the final spot on the Board and since I always wanted to be involved in the management of four show caves and not just three, I accepted. I could write many pages concerning the problems confronting Cumberland Caverns, mainly because of past management mistakes, but the cave couldn't be in better hands and there is hope for the future. Certainly money will not be an issue.

These have popped up a time or two but I thought I'd open a forum for these and a first request for any of the insiders. Are the photo montages still on the wall of the lounge? I would love to see them again and I'm sure the readers of the forums would love to see a good high def of SDC's past if anyone has the time/access/equipment. Here is a true insiders trivia!

Other Parks / Rawhide AZ. A few SDC Connections

This small but popular wild west town has seveal unofficial connections to SDC. First of all you can still ride SDC's stagecoach becouse one of them is there. You can see it on there website.(Another ended up at the Ralph Foster Museum at Collage of the Ozarks).
The second remnent is the Magirk Brothers street shows started by Rawhides first entertainment dept which was made up of Keith Scarborough, former hatfield boy and Mark Twain Impersonater at SDC, Jeff Kimes the Hatfield Haint Show boy, John Corbin Goldsberry, former hammered dulcimer player and comedian, and Joe Jokabyte, aka Deputy DooDa all four who left the city in the mid 80s for that purpose. They were latter joined by Hellin Kimes, Jeffs wife ,saloon girl and choriographer, and Ed Marshal, rainmaker and Mad Dog Mcoy. John, Helen, and Ed returned to SDC where Helen remairied another SDC Entertainer and Writer. Several other SDC acts visited during the winter months which is Rawhides peak season and SDC was closed.
Origanaly a star attraction, the current Magirk shows are pale to the origanal cast's and have degenerated into more of a commercial Arrest a Guest crew.
They do have decent stunt shows and an amazing can't loose casino dealer show, as well as some fun variety acts.
The park was recently sold and moved to the Indian reservation south of Phoenix. (the Indians bought out the Cowboys!)

This first one from the early 60's is mostly shot on mainstreet but features quick glimpses of the long gone old mill and print shop that later burned in a late 60's fire, as well as the old midown depot under recent obervation elsewhere in the forum! Watch for the map of SDC tacked on the printshop door that comes up in the middle which puts this video before the treehouse and mine. Not to mention parking on the square in front of the hopitality house. Now that's a prime parking spot.
