Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2015 Project

That's easy:  they don't have the same standards as Silver Dollar City.

It's kinda funny coming from owners of water parks as well.

That's true. I think they could loosen the standards a little bit. I see it no worse than men walking around in 2 sizes to small tank tops.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the Land of Forgotten Crafts in front of the waterfall area where the lumberjack dining area is now? I like the concept of the forgotten crafts area. I wish it would come back.

Gaslight Square, however, was horrid. The TV commercials advertising it featured a barbershop quartet. I remember seeing the commercial as a kid and watching my mom almost cry because of what they did to SDC! At the time, I believe that SDC was supposed to be 100 years in the past, and Gaslight Square was supposed to bring the park into the "gay nineties". After the Gaslight Square fiasco, they decided to stick to the 1880's.

Gaslight square and Land Of Forgotten Crafts were both horrid in my book. I remember the TV commercials and they were even bad.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: EXPIRED refill mugs

We have several old glass mugs that we do not even carry anymore. We have cut out sugared drinks from our diet and prefer water. Saves money and I feel a lot better. Also to add to what other people have said. The restrictions are visible on the signs when you buy them, I don not think SDC has done anything under the table here at all.

^I've heard that, but I think it's a really expensive buffet.

They have pasta buffet nights on certain days, but it is far from your standard belly up to the bar style. A cook will cook your pasta to your specs in front of you. I have never seen them do a pizza buffet and hope they never do. Reeds Springs Pizza Company is well worth the drive. Best thin crust I have ever had.

Correction --> more like impossible to replace

Does anybody know if he even had any apprentices?

I do know they have another knife maker on site. I looked at his work also. Not sure if he was a apprentice or not.

How ironic, I had fiddled with the idea of a Ray Johnson knife for years but just could not justify the cost. 2 weeks ago when we visited I watched Ray again and went inside after his demonstration. Spoke to the guys about the knives like I always do and with the wife's blessing purchased a Ray Johnson Damascus steel 4" blade.  Ray was a unique individual and certainly added character to the park. He will be irreplaceable.

Like others I would be at the rope when it drops and head straight for outlaw run. I would also suggest downloading the SDC app if you have a smartphone. Not all the attractions are covered but it will give you wait times for some of the major ones. Make sure you check it before venturing over to Powder Keg since it has a lot of downtime. It will save you several steps if they are having issues.

Also, good call on the breakfast. My family gets by on a bagel and coffee. The buffets there are just OK with heavy comfort food. Some of the fun of SDC is grazing your way around the park. Most of the skillets are great and filling. It is just hard to pick one over the other. I tend to favor the Calico Potatoes.

Random Talk / Re: 4th of July.

Again no Ruckus necessary, but I feel when we lose sight of what a Holiday is really about we disrespect those it was meant to honor. For instance Labor day is meant to honor the working people of our country, but more and more the military is trying to creep into it also. I have seen the same recently in Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just one  of my pet peeves. Its takes all kinds to make this a great place to live and everyone needs their recognition. It's like someone said in a earlier thread about pandering to special groups all the time.

With all respect to our military brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, and cousins, Independence Day is more about the founding of our great nation.

It is about the planners, plotters, gamblers, and visionaries of the Continental Congress. It's about the traitors, quitters, rebels, and betrayers of King George.

Today is for the treasonous acts, the espionage, and the thumbing of the nose expressed in the Declaration of Independence. It is a day to honor the founding fathers, the heralds, the authors, and those community organizers who constructed ragtag troupes to stand against the redcoats, the taxes, and the oppression that came from being governed from afar.

We do well to remember that our nation - her freedoms, her rights, and all that we oft take for granted - is a nation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because of all of this and more.

Well said History Buff. I am always amazed at how the military is quietly encroaching on every holiday we have. Independence day is not about wars, veterans, current military. As you said it is to honor the founding of our country. Hope everyone had a great 4th.

From other videos I have seen it looks like they have really taken steps to slow it down while climbing second hill.

Maybe we can be rid of these strange little eggs in and on the banks of the lake.
I've not yet discovered the creature that lays these garish treasures.

From the species with  the Latin name Badaimitrons. They do not reproduce unless they are fertilized with a touch from a wax hand.

This sounds like it is a lazy, unimaginative addition to the park.  Use recycled rides, fail to keep it in 1880's theme, etc.  I don't think we're going to be very impressed.  I hope I'm wrong but I won't hold my breath.

It's sad this is where SDC is going.

Agre, And also agree with Shave about all the pandering to special groups. I wish they had taken all this money and refurbished a few of the older attractions and saved the space for something major in the future.

I'm not as pessimistic about the new area as most seem here, let's wait till the ride package is officially announced. If it's zamperla, I just hope for an air race as part of it, cause that's a solid flat. Let's have a little faith, they did good with Outlaw Run.

We fully intend on season passes next season, they'll be THE stocking stuffer. This year was a planned 3 day visit at Galveston and a Disney week. The kids got stoked for Galveston cause the Shlitterbahn there was on Extreme Terror Rides earlier today.

Yes, They did great on outlaw run, but a bunch of traveling carnival rides fail to excite me. Cheapens up the place like a six Flags.

Just recently returned from a Thursday visit and while it was slow early in the day by late afternoon the place was booming. I agree with Swoosh about the need to give away admissions. Although it hurts those who have come to depend on it, you do not make money giving away entries. Last year we used all our guest passes most of the year and the majority of those people spent less than 5 bucks each all day. Bet they are figuring out it is not as beneficial as it used to be.
