General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC passes and BAF
« on: September 01, 2014, 07:55:22 PM »
To answer your questions.

The earlier you buy the better the BAF benefits. From opening day of sale to a specified cutoff date will get you more passes with more flexible dates. The cut off date is usually around Jan. 1 or so.

The passes are only good for specified time periods. So, there are blackout dates.

If you purchase passes for the remainder of this year ou will not get BAF's

Country Mart in Branson has the $30.00 tickets for Thursdays.

The semi permanent rodeo was called The Heart of America Rodeo, and it was held in Mutton Hollow where Celebration City now is. I think It ran from about 1977 to about 1980. My stepfather, an executive by day, was parking lot manager there by night for part of the 1979 season, and my brother and I parked cars. Our pay was $20 per night, and free admission to the rodeo. Mutton Hollow was beautiful and unspoiled then, not so now.

I remember that one also Junior, but there was another at one time in the early 70's that was located in the general area of whitewater. I remember the stockade style fences as you rounded the curve.

Who remembers when the only shows on the strip were the Presleys, the Baldknobbers and the Foggy River Boys?  While you were in the shows, they had people in the parking lot putting their bumper sticker on your car!  Heck, back then we would travel to Branson without any reservations to a motel!!!  Then came the trip where the entire town was booked and we couldn't find a room.  We ended up staying in a primitive cabin on Indian Point.  From that point on, mom always made sure we had reservations at the Pines Motel.

Junior- I remember the old Wax Museum as well.  Pretty bad by todays standards, but back then we thought it was cool!

SOTH was also very different back then.  Just the ticket office, a gift shop and Aunt Molly's Cupboard the best I can remember.    Old Matt's Cabin and the old barn were the only structures on the west side.  Up the hill from the cabin, under the pines, were the statues of The Shepherd and Little Pete along with Brave.  Riding down the hill to the Old Mill Theater always gave me an eerie feeling as a kid.  Don't know why, maybe just my imagination running wild about the baldknobbers along with the glow from the yellow lights hanging in the trees.  Ah...the good old days. :'(

Actually I remember it being The Baldknobbers, Presleys and The Plummer Family. I remember the name The Foggy River Boys, but cannot remember where they were. I also remember the year one of the Mabes got into a P***sing contest with the other brothers and opened his own theater.  Bob O links Was the name of the show I think. Where Clay Cooper is now.

Now, Does anyone remember the semi permanent Rodeo that was located where Whitewater is now?

Back on topic. Does anyone ever think Grandfathers Mansion will get a upgrade? It is probably one of the few gravity houses still in existence. It sure needs some love also.

With FITH basically being a shell of its former self and in bad need of repair I would prefer to see it completely torn Down if the structure is in as bad shape as some other posters have eluded to. With that said a complete rebuild in the same location. Just think what they could do with today's 3d/4d technology. Keep the storyline the same but just enhance the experience.

I just wonder how the flooded mine structure is holding up? A wet humid environment is not good for anything, but it seems to be ok. Just think what they could do with water screen technology and today's animatronics. Take away the shoot out and give it a great storyline.

AP just start over with a mountain type flume similar to splash. It would take tons of capital to do this though. Not sure if HFE has deep enough pockets for something of this caliber. If not a good flume through the woods would be great.

I like where you're going with this. I'd love to see SDC push its boundaries and go where they have never gone before...on one of their oldest and most beloved rides, FITH. Make it into one of the best dark rides in the country. Gut the building out, and make it a top notch attraction. 3D, animatronic, but don't allow it to lose the nostalgia and theme we all know and love so well.

Also, maybe with a revamped FITH, I would love to see a small area of the ride building (maybe a walkthrough gallery) or a new building around the ride dedicated to the history of the baldknobbers. Even if it is a romanticized history, I think the baldknobbers have kind of been forgotten in the park and I think it'd be great to see them return in a bigger form.

One thing I don't want to change is the exterior of FITH. It's so iconic.

I can just imagine rounding a bend on FITH with 3D glasses and up ahead you see a group of baldknobbers galloping toward you as you approach the burning town all in 3d film! smelling the smoke then as you get to the bridge drooooop.

Construction/Rumors / SDC Classics Revitalization
« on: August 20, 2014, 11:27:44 AM »
Since as Swoosh pointed out this is a low investment year maybe a major new attraction is in the works. Personally I would like to see another new coaster. I know a lot of people want a wing rider, but for me just a straight out old fashioned woodie, but we know that is not going to happen.
As for some of the other concerns about classic attractions. SDC has probably let some of these things go to the point that it is not feesable to rehab or improve upon. This is sad. parks operate in this manner. Disney dropped Mr. Toad for Pooh. Snow Whites scary adventures was shuttered when the refurbishment of Fantasyland was announced. Dumbo was totally rebuilt. I am not one who sits on nostalgia so maybe the best bet is to remember them and hopefully when they are replaced it is done with something awesome. Which brings me to why I am dissapointed in FL. The concept is great and it looks like a lot of thought went into it, but if SDC is just going to become a park with traveling carnival style attractions then they have lost me. Most of the things that were announced could be packed up on a truck and moved from town to town. Hopefully the theming and interactive features will offset this.

So what I really hope is that whatever we get is well thought out and highly themed. They can do this because they have in the past. Coaster, New dark ride, I do not care just blow me away with it.

As for shows, I really do not care if they bring back anything from the past. I have seen them and ready to move on to something new. Give me a new high production show and I will be happy.

It's obviously a success, but there are still ways it should be tweaked/enhanced to keep it more appropriate to the 1880s theme.

Since I have never been I am not sure what they do. Probably never will go due to the high crowds, but would love to since I am a thrill ride junkie. I would bet it is a huge hit with the teen through 20's crowds though.

Well, in this case, it was Midnight Madness

This probably does not belong here, but it kind of does too. With the new addition-upgrade if you would take the park and draw a straight line from HDH through main street down through the lake it seems like the west side ( thunderation side) is growing as more of the family side of the park. Where as The East side is more the thrill side. Wonder if this is intentional or just how things are progressing? Feel free to move this to a new topic if appropriate.

^What? I don't even...

Honestly, when stuff like this gets posted I feel like pulling a Robb Alvey and just banning people. I finally understand where his attitude comes from. After almost a decade of following this park through this site and outlining our hopes and wishes for how the park should be developed, here is a development that responds to a lot of that while also meeting the park's need to appeal to a broad range of visitors. I'm not asking anyone to "love" the addition, or even be happy about it, but if you are going to criticize it at least be constructive and use basic common sense.

Sorry that some of us are less than thrilled and do not buy into everything HFE throws out there. I sure did not know that criticism or disappointment in something was a offense on this site to be banned for. Guess I better line up like a good little sheep. Everyone has there own ideas and hopes for the parks improvement.

Pretty much underwhelmed as I thought I would be. We knew most of this before so I was not expecting much. I know this is replacing a kids area, but how many kids areas do they really need? If you really look at it, why would putting in used rides from a place (CC) that was a failure be considered a smart move ? hopefully better things are on the horizon.

Branson Talk / Re: Showboat Rumor
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:05:33 PM »
We went maybe 10 years ago and that was plenty for us. I remember we were standing on the deck enjoying the cruise and they made us go inside for dinner. I kind of wonder if they would allow you to skip the dinner or show or both and just sit on the deck? The dinner was OK similar to Dixie Stampede. I would rate it a step above a buffet. Cannot remember much about the show except it had all the Branson show staples, God bless the USA and the military and all that. We might try it again sometime, but only if we have nothing else to do.

Back to the original topic though I have heard they are having trouble filling it up. Just a rumor with no evidence.
