General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Scattered Antiques
« on: December 07, 2014, 06:30:24 PM »
Something that's become very obvious this season is that the scattered antique artifacts that once filled the walls and wooded areas of the park are rapidly disappearing. A lot of this stuff is authentic mining equipment and antiques from the 1880s to the early 1900's, but it's been left out to rust for so long that some of it got to the point where it's unrecognizable, and now the park is simply tossing a lot of it. On the same note, a lot of the original hand painted signs and things painted on the sides of buildings are being slowly removed/replaced/painted over. While some of the new stuff is nice, the old stuff is has much more charm.

So I'm putting out a request. I'd like to start a gallery of this stuff so we can appreciate what's there before it's gone. If you have any photos to contribute

I'm not so sure that air conditioner isn't older the the mining equipment. :)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Saturday or Sunday? Crowds...
« on: December 07, 2014, 08:21:14 AM »
We will be there next weekend also and the weather forecast is for mid 50's to 60's. I would bet that Saturday will be packed solid. That is the only day we have but if I had the option for Sunday I would take it.

If it were new or different shows, Maybe ??? I would do it, but we have seen these so many times before it will not really hurt if I miss them. Like I said if the wife and daughters want to wait in line I will gladly use that time to get some quality ride time in ;D.  I would like to see the new saloon show though.

Sorry, Just found the answer. Went through the checkout process and it will only allow you to purchase a pass for the 2 shows mentioned. I also thought it was $10.00 per pass.Nope , it is $ 10.00 per show per person. Think I will let them do the shows and stand in line which does not bother them and I will ride.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Show Lovers Pass
« on: December 06, 2014, 07:54:47 AM »
We had not planned any trips during Old Time Christmas, but some friends of ours talked my wife into meeting them at SDC next weekend. Will be using their Baf's for the entry. Our kids are also meeting us there. We never have bought a show lovers pass, and I really do not care for the 2 major Christmas shows , but will be forced to set through them to help make the spouse happy. Looks like it will be in the 60's next weekend so I expect the place will be packed. I really do not want to waste my good riding time waiting in 1 hour lines for the shows so I think we will invest in a show lovers pass.

Question is

Is the pass only good for Dickens and Wonderful life ? That is what the website alludes to. I thought the Saloon was included, but am not sure.

Junior, I agree with the new low comment. The network it is showing on is known for some of the trashiest TV shows broadcast. Not sure if I will watch on not. Probably not.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Glass blowers

Well we have not stopped to watch the glass blowers in years, but as for the loading area that is one big improvement they could make. It is total chaos on a busy day when they are packing them in. A accident waiting to happen especially with all the young kids. This is the number 1 improvement area as far as I am concerned.

We have not had season passes for 2 years but still get it. But really there is not much in it of any substance, just a bunch of the same ads you have seen for years. You can get a lot better information on the website.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: OTC 2014..What do you think?
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:31:17 AM »
On topic by 50% I went to get the ornament the night I was there at the park and check on the new passes possibly order them.  In the schoolhouse there were 3 ladies behind the counter.  1 was doing nothing at her register but paperwork and the other 2 were slowly processing passes.  I stood there for 25 min and was 3 people back in line when I got there.  The end result was frustration and lost interest in the situation and I walked.  I would hardly think I am the only one that isn't interested in using more than 30 min of my evening at the park waiting to get  a free ornament and simultaneously shelling out $200 for next years passes.  I expect better service than this at SDC.   This needs to be sped up.   I did not understand why they were asking every question for every person and these people appeared to be current pass holders.  Why the system would not allow them to scan the bar and then confirm that no info had changed.  Instead apparently they have to confirm each bit of info for each pass purchased.  Very slow, I lost interest, if they are going to give away ornaments don't make me wait in line for 30 min to get one.  Do this at 2 or 3 park locations.

We had the same experience the past two years (haven't been down yet this OTC).  At the very least they could do one line for just ornaments.  I feel like I'm wasting my night by standing in line for 30 minutes or more just for a free ornament.

They should be able to just mail the ornament to those who qualify. The system should be able to notify them who is entitled to the ornaments. So , as for the on topic 50 %. I really think they are using a very old and cumbersome ticketing system. This summer while purchasing a $30.00 Thursday pass I watched how many screens the lady had to go through just in order to process a ticket I had already bought at Country Mart. Maybe a new software program would speed up the process. As for me I will buy my passes online and save the time.

I would not mind seeing Rudolph done as a major production next Christmas.

I noticed that they have renamed the spring dates in March to " Spring Ride Days" . Wonder if this has anything to do with all the negative feedback they got about the entire park not being open those dates? The new name would more accurately depict that this is a ride only type opening.

The tree- I agree it is time to take it to the next level. The newer technology out there could make this a total immersion event. Now it is just ho hum.

Dickens- not a good judge here because I am simply tired of this story in any shape or form. Seen it in to many forms over the years. I could care less if I ever see another rendition of Dickens. Write a new original show and get rid of it.

Wonderful life- this one still has some time left. Still a good show

Saloon show- have not seen this years version. Glad to hear that there is a new show.

Cajun connection- have never seen the Christmas version.

Nativity- change it up some, but it will always be a part of the season.

Parade - I will wait to see what this years version is like. I was getting tired of the old one though.

We do not eat at the park, but it seems like they are losing a lot of opportunity if they close that early.

I know a lot of people come for just the lights, but I find the park lacking in things to do at Christmas time. I really wish that there were more indoor dark rides that could operate in any weather.
