Branson Talk / Re: Baldknobbers: Reality TV??
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:38:03 AM »
Here is my post without How Do's quote. I messed up the quote button.

will agree with How Do. I broke down and watched it. The first time through I was not to impressed but the wife wanted to see it so I gave it a second go through. I believe it is somewhat scripted but not totally. After the second go through I get it. You are kind of seeing the backside of the Branson entertainment industry.

I am no fan of Branson shows but this gives you a glimpse of the behind the scenes infighting that I would imagine goes on with all Branson shows not just the Baldknobbers. It also touches on the Power struggle within the family to control the direction the show will take in the future. Brandon Mabe who is the son of the Droopy character is trying to make the show more relevant to the times. There is also a younger sister who wants to be on stage but does not have the talent. The brunette seems to be a little power hungry and wants in the family.

One thing I thought was interesting was that the other Mabe family ( not sure of his name) was on the show but did not ever speak. I am sure this will change in future shows.

All in all it was typical reality TV. Some people will be mad because it shows a side of Branson that they believe does not exist or should not be shown. But, why put on blinders and pretend things do not exist. I also watched the documentary we always lie to strangers and thought it presented a good perspective on the other side of the Branson industry.

I do not get the channel that Barry Williams show is on so I will not watch it, but never was a fan of him anyway. My wife would jump on it in a minute though.

Ok, well, i will be the one to stand differant on the show. I enjoyed it, alil' drama goes along ways. Of course, i looked at as if i knew nothing about it. I am kinda anxious to see what becomes between the blonde & the brunette. There is "cuties" - "crybabies", & "bosses" in any group of people. Maybe its a bad deal for the Baldknobbers show & Branson, but that does not bother me. I just enjoy the fact of watching something that is located around Branson & SDC.

Short story.... We had a reality show here in KC having to do with dirt auto racing in the KC area. And the drivers, crews, & fans were told to dramatize things as much they could. The show only lasted 1 season, maybe 6 episodes. Sometimes it got real serious too!!

I am giving this show a chance. As many people go to Branson, who knows where this will go. Yeah, it may die, but it will be fun just to watch. I plan on watching the Barry Williams one too. -- Remember, this is just my opinion.  :)

To be totally honest I would just rather see a real tree brought in from somewhere. Decorated very nice and a nightly lighting ceremony that is not so loud and in your face like the one is now. Something like the white House does for a tree.

Construction/Rumors / Re: Your Attraction Ideas

Ok ok.... I hopefully just thought of a show that we would all like to see just now. There used to be a small stage in midtown that now has a wagon on it. Back in the 1800s and 1900s there were a lot of traveling salesmen. Some selling tonic, the were called Medicine Men, and some were more like Rainmakers. I looked this up. I heard there used to be something like this in SDC a long time ago. The medicine man usually said, "Come one, come all! I have just invented a magic tonic that can cure any ailment and it will make you live longer." This sounds like a really good character and show i want to see. It would be very short. He isnt really selling anything and its just a small, brown bottle of water.

They can also do a Rainmaker like show where he has 1 kid put 1 foot in a round metal pan on the ground and a stick in her hand. He tells her to hold it high and say a chant like, Ooya Ooya Rain come here today! Then he flips a switch behind a curtain in the wagon and water comes out of 2 sprinklers on top of the wagon.

There should be a halloween festival with a scary ride or haunted house. During this festival, there should be a casket in place of the wagon. He says there is a 6 bedroom, 3 bath house underground and the casket is the elevator. He chooses a man to go inside and he closes the door. Once he does a hooded figure opens the back door and taps him on the shoulder to switch places. He then asks are you done looking yet and tells everyone to come up close. He opens the door and the hooded figure jumps out, scaring everyone. Then he goes back inside, closes the door, switches places with the man, the man comes back out, and the hooded figure stays behind the casket where he cant be seen.

I know not all of you will agree with the halloween part but the Rainmaker and medicine man show are very good ideas because they were very popular back then. Btw, i do TRY to stick with the theme all the time but i want to see the things come back that i grew up with. I also think they can add stuff to the park that would make it a lot better, and im tired of them trying to change the theme to a cowboy theme. The old theme is not bad but if you want to change it, dont change it to a cowboy theme.

SDC used to have a rainmaker show a long time ago. I do not ever recall a medicine  man show, but it is a good idea. The trouble with this is one big word MONEY. Where do you put your money to get a return on your investment. Street shows take a lot of full time employees to do. Not sure if they would pull the new revenue to offset the cost. I would love to see them unfortunately it is a new era.

Sounding bad as in needs new songs or the audio output isn't sounding good?

Have they ever used any Mannheim Steamroller or Trans-Siberian Orchestra for the tree? Most of what they use comes from David Foster and Boston Pops, right? Does it maybe just cost too much to license out Mannheim or TSO music? 'Cause, man, I'd love to see some Mannheim or TSO used.

To me it sounded like something recorded in the 40's . Real crackly ( if thats a word) and tinny sounding.

A TSO soundtrack on a new tree would be awesome.

Now that I think about it more, what I was hearing was probably more of a speaker problem than a soundtrack problem. With today's digital soundtracks they really never go bad. I still feel the tree needs a complete overhaul. It is past its prime. And the Pickers hate it, just ask them ;D

I don't know if they still do it, but Disney World used to use their projection mapping on Cinderella Castle to put people's pics up from that day during their pre-show for Wishes; it was SO cool. I'd love to see something like that on the tree!

Exactly what I was thinking they should do. I think Disney is still doing this. Also, I think the music soundtrack on the tree is really sounding bad.

Not next year. Got 24 days in Europe scheduled for next summer already. Maybe at Christmas, but they are going to really have to do something new to pry me down there at that time again.

Runner,

I think if you watch the 2 shows, you will find out that they are produced/directed in 2 completely different formats/styles...

I have said on here before that Tru Tv, which is what the Baldknobbers show is on is the Wal Mart of TV. Not sure about Barry's station since I have never viewed any of their programming. I really have no interest in either of these programs so I doubt that I will watch either. Not even sure what GAC is. My music interest is not even close to what these shows and Branson as a whole offers.  My comment was a pun about how Branson could use this to market itself not a slam on either one.

Baldknobbers on reality TV, now Greg Brady on reality TV. I can see the Branson promotion headlines now.

Branson, MO  Reality TV capital of the world.

We left right before 7  and the bakery person told us 20,000 then the package pickup guy said 19,500. The trams were still full coming in at that time so, 24,000 for the day is not out of line.

We arrived at about 1:00 and still parked at stop 3. Not sure why they were diverting to notch at 12:30. Duelist, we were there on BAF's so I guess since I was in free I do not have much reason to complain, but if I would have paid full price I would have felt cheated. The square at the tree lighting was just a dangerous situation. No room for any personal space and no dedicated lanes for travel through. If someone would have had a emergency there would have been no way to respond to it. SDC is unique in its atmosphere but that atmosphere also includes very narrow streets that were built in the 60's 70' and are not designed for the crowds they pack in at times. I heard several people say the same phrase around me " There is nothing Christmas about this". Even Disney shuts down the gates at times for capacity. SDC needs to seriously consider it. If its me that gets shut out that's OK. I also saw the people coming in through the back way.

I was there about 3 years ago at the one on the strip. Have not been back since if that tells you anything. I would grade them on the lower rungs of all the Texas whatever roadhouse style steak places out there. But I am not much on any chain restaurant. The family calls me a food snob.

Not a official review but Today was packed. 19500 was what I was told at about 7 P.M. Did not see any shows. I refuse to stand in a 2 hour line for them. Most rides were 20 minutes or so except for Wildfire at about 45 according to the APP. Got there around 1:00 and got out before the 7:20 parade rush out the door. I really think they need to institute some kind of capacity control. Just not fun and enjoyable packed in there like that. Might be my last trip.

Panera is right behind Andy Williams Theater.

Yea, but I am looking for something a little more unique than a chain.  I am a coffee snob.  ::) If you have not tried pour over coffee you are really missing it if you are a coffee lover.
