General Silver Dollar City Talk / Funniest t-shirt at SDC?
« on: December 26, 2011, 11:24:48 AM »
What's the funniest t-shirt you've seen someone wear at SDC?  Back in the summer while waiting in line for the Giant Swing, my son and I saw a teenage girl wearing a t-shirt that read: "Clarinets- we're like ninjas.  You can't hear us but we're there."  Funny!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / A 2-part ride question
« on: June 10, 2011, 06:05:03 PM »
I've been looking at older threads and noticed a couple of posts where guests were allowed to ride multiple times without having to get off during less attended days.  Someone posted riding Lost River 10 times and Shave posted that he got to ride Wildfire 17 times in a row without having to get off the ride.  This got me to thinking a)whether anyone has ever attempted to set a record for continous riding at SDC?  We've all seen the news stories where someone rides a coaster continuosly for weeks in a row. And b) if you were to attempt to set a record which ride at SDC would you choose?  I'd have to go with Fire in the Hole.  It doesn't beat you up as much as the other coasters; there are longer more restful parts of the ride to recover; it's dark and relaxing; and it's inside out of the weather and climate controlled.  Any thoughts on this?

SDC Memories/ Park History / SDC "Designer" Jeans
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:43:49 AM »
Everytime I go in the General Store I think of the early 80s when SDC sold "Designer" Jeans with "Silver Dollar City" on the back pockets.  I could kick myself now (if I stretch first) for not buying a pair for a souveneir.  Does anybody else remember these jeans?

Anyone planning on going to the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Wilson Creek in Springfield?  I'm seriously thinking about it.  It's August 12th - 14th.  If you're interested here's the website: http://www.wilsonscreek150.com/.

Forgive me if I  bring up a morbid subject but with talk of past tornadoes I was wondering where are the safe places to go at SDC?  By the Grace of God I don't think SDC has ever been hit by a tornado but I know they get warnings.  Do they issue the warning on the loud speakers?  Or would that cause widespread panic?  Of course the best place would be on a tour of Marvel Cave but they're not going to get everyone through the Hospitality House and into the cave in the alloted time. At least part of Grandfather's Mansion is built into a hill so I'm thinking the staircase might be a good spot.  I believe the dining at the Mine is underground and so is the bottom floor of the Woodcarver's shop.  The Flooded Mine looks sturdy also.  Any thoughts?

Random Talk / August 20, 2009

Just curious- on the main SDC Forums page at the bottom it says the most users ever online for this site was 111 on August 20th, 2009 at 5:01 am.  Since that was before I discovered this site does anyone remember what the "hot topic" may have been?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / "Run for the Lights"
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:51:51 PM »
The topic of "Cardiac Hill" got me to wondering if anyone has ever done the SDC 5K race "Run for the Lights"?  I believe they do it on the weekend after Veteran's Day to coincide with the turning on of the Christmas lights at SDC.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Whatever happened to...
« on: September 22, 2010, 06:51:04 PM »
I don't know the guy's name but he was a street performer for years and he played Dusty Chaps during the Frontier Fa-la-la Follies at the Saloon during Christmas.  I last saw him a few years ago in the bakery during his day off and he was with his wife and a new baby.  As Quasimodo would say, does this ring a bell with anybody?  :)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Shops
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:49:15 PM »
We talk a lot about rides and/or shows we'd like to see built or brought back but how about shops?  For one I miss the book store.  I'd spend a lot of time there each trip and almost all of the souveniers I have from SDC are books.  Someone mentioned in another thread they'd like to see a full service western clothing store.  There used to be some "period" style clothing at the old Butterfield Stage Supply before it moved up to Main Street and became Cowboy Jepp's.  When the SDC Facebook page showed some photos of their costuming shop (for their employees) someone said they would like to see the "period" clothing the characters wear offered to the public.  There are a lot of good places on the web to buy frontier clothes but it would be nice to have somewhere you could try the clothes on before you buy them.  Thoughts?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Quirky things to do at SDC
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:09:05 PM »
One of the fun things we like to do at the City is hang out near the train depot and watch people "jump" when the train blows it's whistle as it's departing the depot.  I've seen peole spill drinks, scream, jump 5 feet in the air, etc.   But they always end up laughing about it afterward. Especially fun when it's a group of teenage girls.  They "scare" real good. It's like watching the scarecrow "come to life" outside of the Hospitality House during the Fall festival.  Anyone else have anything unusual they would like to share?
