General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Going back to SDC
« on: May 04, 2020, 09:03:33 AM »
I do not know anyone personally that has been confirmed to have this. I am concerned about getting it and passing it to elderly family members.

I did not get passes this year, because I am saving money for a large purchase. Otherwise, if it opened tomorrow, I would go.

I have always kept my distance from others out of personal preference with the exception of theaters and queue lines.

They have hand sanitizer stations around the park.  If you are uncomfortable then wear a mask or don't go

I do not know anyone that has personally had it either, but to be fair the first case in the U.S. was supposedly in January which was only 3 months ago.  The first case in Lawrence County Mo. was yesterday in which I live.  If guidelines and social distancing had not been implemented everyone might know someone that had it or has it, and still might.  It will eventually get into the rural areas.

I too try to keep my distance from others at SDC, but that really is just impossible to do even on a small attendance day.  Will young children practice and be able to social distance??

Hand sanitizers would definitely help but still be just a drop in the bucket considering the rides and all the handrails that would constanly need sanitizing.  In some areas it would be possible but extremely challenging in others.

I see everyone's point in wanting to go, it's a tough decision to open or not throughout the entire country, but it just seems we don't know near as much about it as we really should at this point.

Obviously Missouri will probably take a slower approach, but if things don't backfire entirely it is starting to look like we could get to SDC this summer after all.

I don't see how SDC can get by the social distancing that needs to take place.  Even at phase 3 physical distancing is in place and Missouri isn't even at phase 1 yet.  I sure hope they can but it sure looks like it is just too much for them to overcome this year.

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases of H1N1 that killed 12,469 in the U.S.  As of today there have been 855,435 cases of COVID-19 that have killed 47,992 in the U.S.

At this point COVID-19  is more contagious, more deadly, and if 60.8 million people were to somehow get infected by it that would project to around 3 million deaths.

Do I think that many will perish?  Probably not, but it is going to be a terrible toll when all is said and done.

I know they begin selling the next years SPs in November. Do yall think they will make this event earlier to help generate much needed income for themselves?

I don't really believe so because your talking about a small amount of income if you started selling them a couple of months ahead.   Most people would just wait anyway unless SDC really sweetened the deal by adding extra vouchers to get in free.

The way they are describing the move as going into "hibernation mode" doesn't sound very promising.  Sounds like they are expecting a fairly long wait.

The way things are looking it's not really that hard to imagine SDC not opening at all this year, or at least not until late in the year.  They just would not be considered as essential, and with the large accumulation of people in close proximity is not favorable.

If they can open say in 2 or 3 months and people feel safe, then I would expect crowds to be much larger than usual.  But that being said there will still be a large number of people that will still be cautious and not want to be in close quarters with a lot of people.

I still think if they can open this year they would have a lot of days with extended hours, and even extend the days they are open to possibly 6 or 7 days a week when they are usually cutting days down (say August).  Over the years the main complaint I heard by employees was not getting enough hours in, not too many.  A simple solution to that is just hire more people.

If they do open this year which is a pretty big if, I would guess they might run every day like a Moonlight Madness type of thing with extended hours.  As far as running into Jan & Feb I would not think so because there is only so much Christmas spirit to go around.   Even to clear the city of Christmas decorations and reopen wouldn't make a lot of sense with the coldest part of Winter coming on.   I don't see it anyway!

I would have thought it would have been a better fit in Eva & Delilah's Bakery instead of Sullivan's Mill.  Everyone has to pass it and lured in by the smell of the bakery early in the morning would have produced a lot more sales.

It would have also kept the charm of the mill intact.

I don't care much for that feeling of someone sitting right on your lap with your legs pinned to the side of the boat either.  That 2 minute ride seems to turn into 30 minutes.

It is a good classic ride thou with mostly good memories  :)

LOL!!!
Just out of curiosity.....

Are we still talking about the American Plunge?? :o :o

I was definitely took out of context   ;)

For now, at least the kids like it. It's still a fun splashdown, and I do like the classic log flume feel.

It is a classic ride, the logs themselves, the downhill slide, the Classic splash on the bridge..

LoL.....I know your talking about the all around classic feel of the ride, but those boats are sometimes murder.  I have rode this probably a couple of hundred times over the years in all types of conditions and capacity.  It's always a pretty good ride when you can spread out with leg room, but a full boat gets a little uncomfortable.

I don't care much for that feeling of someone sitting right on your lap with your legs pinned to the side of the boat either.  That 2 minute ride seems to turn into 30 minutes.

Yeah, let's talk about that fun splashdown when someone in front of you jerks their head back into your chest or face (ouch).  I will admit it's usually a younger person that likes to jerk their head back, but not always.  I have learned to watch for this over time.

It is a good classic ride thou with mostly good memories  :)

Here is a site that is very trusted and I presume accurate about Coronavirus cases, deaths and recovered.  It is updated daily.

I have put 2 and 2 together and come to the conclusion I probably should have skipped season passes this year like I originally planed to do.  Instead in went all in and decided to get season trail blazer passes also.  Tick tock, the season is running down as we speak. I know it is not their fault and there are other problems in the world but since this is a SDC discussion group I figured I might as well bring it up.

Pretty sure you can get another season pass for next year if you do not use your pass this year.   I have never did that but heard at one time they would allow you to do this.   The trailblazer pass might be done the same...not sure.   Just call or message to check.

Cedar Fair parks are more closed through Mid-May

SDC is Closed through Mid-April

KC Metro has Closed all 14 school districts on MO side through April 24

MO DESE has closed all MO schools through April 6 and canceled State testing

Unless things change quickly it sure looks like 2020 is a lost year for everyone, and actually no guarantees past that.

We also had picked up a couple of Axe body wash that was on the clearance isle for $1 a piece.  When we were told we could only purchase one of these also because they were limiting 1 shampoo product per family.

You lucked out there, and society thanks you.

I guess so......I never thought I would see the day I would be limited to 1 shampoo product.

The fewer Axe products there are, the better.  ;) ;D

They suckered me in on the $1 price  :)
