Believe me, if I had money, I'd be there. I loved LumiNights SO much and I hope I get to see Pumpkin Nights in person, if not this year maybe next year.

I feel like they should've started Pumpkin Nights at the beginning of September. All the other theme parks have their Halloween-related stuff going already.

Well, I can say from firsthand experience, I and my two fellow 30-somethings absolutely LOVED LumiNights at Dollywood. It's one thing to see the pumpkins during the day, but man it is SO pretty at night! If you like Christmas lights and pretty stuff like that, I think y'all will like the after-dark times for Pumpkin Nights. Also, it looks like they're keeping it mostly just to Grand Expo, so it'll probably be pretty easy to bypass it, whereas Dollywood is pretty much a single large loop so you have to go through/past the LumiNights decor to get anywhere. Also, all the rides will be open after dark, so that'll be fun! We did Wild Eagle after dark and it was so fun; I've done Outlaw Run after dark and WOW what a ride!

Interesting... I was at Dollywood last year on Halloween Day, and after school let out the crowds got a bit larger, but it was mostly just kids in costumes with their parents there to trick'or'treat - they gave out bags and candy along the loop to kids.

Honestly, I feel like Halloween has become secular enough that I think it's kinda dumb for Herschend to pretend that SDC is doing this whole pumpkin thing for Fall and not because Halloween is one of the most popular holidays at theme parks these days. I mean, Disney has it's own version of a Halloween celebration without needing to go the "horror" route like other chains.

Then again, SDC still emphasizes the Christian version of Yule for Christmas, so... I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

Although the no-candy at SDC when Dollywood does still surprise me a bit. But maybe Dolly had some say in it and that's the difference...?

That seller also has a piece of concept art from the never-made Hound Dog Jubilee.

I love the ice-house concept, and I think a coaster like a Euro-Fighter would be cool for it (but hopefully smooth  like Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia [omg that coaster was AMAZING] rather than the pretty rattly Mystery Mine).

I think aside from the fact that Twain is from Missouri, SDC probably used those characters because the books were released in the timeframe that SDC is set in (1876 [TS] and 1885 [HF]), so Missourians would have been voraciously reading them, even in the Ozarks.

Also, the other two regional/state theme parks are either world-themed (WoF) or IP-themed (SF). SDC is the one with an 1880s Missouri theme, so Twain fits there best, even if he wasn't from the area.

Home is not a place (that’s how you know you are home) - ?

Did a quick google. That song seems to be "Home" from Wonderland: The Musical (2011).

I don't think I'll get the chance to see "Reuben's..." this year, but maybe next year, so hopefully some of these kinks get worked out by then.

So far, "Listen to the River" is still my all-time favorite SDC musical. God, I'd love to see them revive that one for a new generation.

I wonder if maybe they should've had Reuben be Tom Sawyer? I mean, like, Mark Twain's works published pre-1923 are public domain, so they could easily have used characters from Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn. In fact, it'd make a lot more sense to have the main characters be Tom and Huck and the pirate adventures just them playing; no "it was all a dream" stuff (god, that is one of the top worst tropes in writing, IMHO). In fact, although it's been a while since I've read the Tom and Huck novels, I recall that Tom and Friends played at being pirates on the Mississippi in.... Adv of Tom Sawyer, I believe.

It would tie the show more closely to Twain, Missouri, the 1800s, and other areas of the park like River Blast. Honestly, I really don't know why SDC doesn't have more Mark Twain-related stuff. I don't *think* there's a moratorium on Twain characters/stories/etc in theme parks... If there was, I doubt SDC would've been able to theme River Blast to Tom and Huck.

*sigh*

Y'know, maybe I should sit down and see if I can write a show to pitch to SDC. I mean, I am an English Major (Creative Writing track) who is obsessed with all things Mark Twain and SDC, soooo.... I feel like maybe I could write something good.

OH nice! Someone in a vlog recently was showing how Dollywood has those little mini-tables & benches and I was hoping maybe we could get some like that at SDC. Glad to know SDC is getting them!

So, I've got KOLR's stream up on my browser as they follow a bunch of different tornado-warned cells. They got a call from Brad Thomas letting them know that all the employees at SDC are in shelters. Someone just called in a minute or so ago saying they saw a funnel over SotH Expressway.

Anyone who lives in or near Branson, make sure to take shelter and I hope you guys don't end up with any damage!

Yeah, we rode Zippin Pippin last year, and it was GREAT. One ride at Bay Beach that I highly recommend skipping, though, is the Scat ride... That was beyond vomit-inducing (I didn't, but if I'd had food in my stomach, I probably would have).

I just realized I can post in this thread! :D

So, right now, my travel schedule has me in Chicago for Anime Midwest the first weekend of July; Green Bay for Kitsunekon the next weekend; and then Columbia, South Carolina, for Banzaicon the weekend after that.

I have been having SO much fun traveling with my friends, helping them run their manga library. I get to see new cities and states and I get to TRAVEL. I love traveling.

Cement doesn't melt in the heat, so that could be a reason to put it in. I remember several years ago being at the park on a super hot day and my shoes nearly got stuck in the softening asphalt.... Very weird.

Oh, great. Now we have to debate cement versus concrete!

Whoops. Just googled it. Didn't realize that cement is an ingredient in concrete rather than something separate... I've always kinda used the words interchangeably.

Anyway, I'd love to see the ride and the Rib House "interact" with each other somehow - have the rapids sail right through the middle or something.

As a HUGE fan of California's Pirates of the Caribbean ride that goes through the Blue Bayou restaurant, I absolutely LOVE the idea of this.
