Well, that picture was taken in '94... It wasn't long after that it was taken out, though I don't remember exactly when.

All I can remember of the Treehouse from last year in March was the shadow room, where it flashed your shadow on the wall. I wasn't paying much attention to the the place 'cause I was taking my nephew through it, who was 2 at the time, so most of my attentions were on him.

I mainly just remember the ropes and ballpits in the Landing area.

What I remember is that little play area by Lake Silver called the Shanty Town. I've got a PICTURE.

Ah. One of my favorite smells of SDC is a very weird one, but it's a smell that whenever I smell it elsewhere, my mind is immediately transported to SDC.

That smell would hot black asphalt. There's something about the wafts of steaming tar from the walkways in the dead of summer that just becomes an immediate memory maker. Now every time I get out of the car at a store or something and it's hot out and the ground is hot, I can smell that smell and SDC always comes into my mind. It's become a comfort smell.

I also love the smell of the leather shop, the giant skillets, the woodchips on the ground in various areas, sawdust in the homestead area, and the watery smell that wafts off of Lost River and Lake Silver with a nice cool mist.

Man, I wish I could have seen the Treehouse "way back when". The star-strewn cave room sounds SOOOO awesome.

Aren't they also on a 99-year lease for Marvel Cave?

That'd be an interesting idea to turn CC into WW with a few things left behind. That'd be neat.

Hmmm... Just discovered something that seems a bit like what could be included in the Adventure Base Camp... It's some Challenge Trail thing at Disney's California Adventure; the description sounds a tad like part of the Base Camp idea...

Okay, so a stupid question: when posting the standings, which way does it go? Right - Wrong or Wrong - Right?

Here are my wild guesses for the next week:

Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Cincinatti Bengals @ Cleveland Browns
Atlanta Falcons @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston Texans @ Carolina Panthers
Green Bay Packers @ New York Giants
Buffalo Bills @ Pittsburgh Steelers
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
San Fransisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
Dallas Cowboys @ Miami Dolphins
Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions
Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs @ Chicago Bears
New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens
San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots

Yeah, but with a custom track layout and ultra SDC theming, a Monsoon-type ride could work.

And I totally agree--AP is WAY better than Viking Voyager. I only went on VV once this year, and that was only 'cause a friend of mine was working there.

I really wouldn't mind SDC getting one of those splash battle things. Those look kinda fun.

Is there any difference between Buzzsaw Falls and the Journey To Atlantis ride that Seaworld has? I'm always seeing pics for that ride, and it reminds me of Buzzsaw, but I don't know if there are any differences. It'd be cool to have a water-coaster back at SDC.

Well, what I meant was that they could use the type of ride that Monsoon is, but with a custom track and tons of theming/storyline, so that it's still a new water ride, but different enough that it wouldn't be a replacement for American Plunge.

If they ever added a Mark Twain reenactor, they'd probably have to restrain me so I don't glomp him. L O L... j/k

But seriously, anything that could help teach the next generations about the greatest American novelist is fine by me. I was saddened when I mentioned Mark Twain to my 14-year-old cousin and she had no idea who I was talking about. I knew who he was by age 5, and I had never even been to Missouri yet (grew up in California).

I could see them perhaps putting in one of the boat-style water rides. Like Worlds of Fun has a log flume-type ride similar to American Plunge (but not nearly as thrilling), but they also have one of those wide-boat style water rides as well.

SDC could do something like that, where we'd still have American Plunge, but also a new ride that is a bit, if not a lot, different.

I have a very strong negative physical reaction to cigarette smoke. I mean, I can be sitting in my room, and my stepdad can be outside a story down from my closed window, and I can still physically pick up on the smoke. My chest tightens, my breathing gets shallow, etc.

So, I like that SDC has created designated areas. As much as I'd love to see them go completely smoke-free, I have a stepmom who smokes a lot, and if they had no areas to smoke in, she just wouldn't be able to go to SDC at all. I WOULD like to see them perhaps move a couple of the areas where they're a bit farther from the main areas of traffic 'cause sometimes the smoke wafts over and it feels like there's no use even having designated areas.

I know, I just saw that a little while ago. I'm so excited that he saw it and liked it! I have no idea how he found it, unless he's been lurking over here or searching YouTube for SDC stuff.

I've been having a kinda lousy day, so seeing him feature it on the blog has really made me feel better.

I would love to see more costumed characters roaming around the park. If they keep the Tom Sawyer theming, I would love to see Mark Twain characters roaming around. Since Disney has done away with their Tom Sawyer stuff, it'd be nice to see SDC continue to preserve the memory of some of the best characters in the history of literature.

Random Talk / Avatars and banners
« on: September 10, 2007, 03:25:39 PM »
Not sure where to put this, so thought I'd put it here for now.

I had an inquiry about the banner I made that I'm using for my signature and thought I'd start a thread where people can give me suggestions for various SDC-related avatars and banners that I can make for people on the forum to use.

I won't take actual requests, since I can't guarantee fast production, but if there's something specific you're looking for, just put it in your suggestions and I can see if I can get to it. I'll link to them as soon as I get them finished and uploaded to Photobucket.
