General Silver Dollar City Talk / Some interesting new stuff on SDC site
« on: November 09, 2009, 02:00:48 PM »
Was just browsing through the SDC site while doing some research on Marmaros and came across this new tidbit on the attractions page:

http://www.bransonsilverdollarcity.com/rides-attractions/

Visit our NEW Official Measuring Station! Located at the Season Pass Booth in Midtown, the Official Measuring Station allows your child to be measured and receive a wristband for convenient ride entry. You will also get helpful information about which rides are appropriate for your child and family.

*************

At first I thought, "Wow, someone's gotta be reading our conversations on here."

And now my suspicions are confirmed, because I just now noticed, reading further down the page, that they've now linked to sdcfans.com!

Just found this on a Virtual Family Kingdom forum and thought you guys might find it interesting:

Can you imagine if we could do something like that for SDC?

SDC Memories/ Park History / Famous Citizens
« on: June 17, 2009, 01:02:44 AM »
So, this past week I've been working my way through my season DVD set of "Christy" again, and upon seeing Tess Harper, I remembered that a while back, I had done a search of her name on Google, and various sites came up mentioning that she used to be a street performer at SDC in its early days.

So, I'm just curious... Do any of the older folks here remember ever seeing her at SDC? What other Citizens if any, have gone on to have careers in Hollywood or made themselves famous in other ways, outside of the region?

SDC Memories/ Park History / Great photos on Flickr
« on: May 03, 2008, 05:18:28 PM »
Been doing some surfing through Flickr and thought I'd post links to a couple galleries that I liked.

The first galleries are from a guy who used to work at SDC; while the photos themselves aren't vintage, he adds some great notes on many of them that talk about SDC's past.

The next gallery is small, but has some good vintage photos:

Some more vintage photos, including one of Jim Owens' Float Trip:

If I find any more, I'll be sure to post them...

This is gonna have to be done in parts; it's pretty long and I apologize.

Hey all! I'm finally getting my trip report written and posted. I have to say that my trip on Wednesday was one of the most awesome, beautiful days I have EVER had at SDC.

HINT: All the photos are thumbnails that when clicked will take you to larger, clearer pics.

So, where to begin... Well, might as well begin at the beginning.

We got out of town (Indep MO) around 6:15am-ish. It was a nice, smooth drive. I really like how Hwy 13 has turned out with the lane expansions.

We stopped in Bolivar to fill up and managed to get gas for $3.32 a gallon (it was at $3.47 in Indep).

We actually got to Indian Point Rd. with a half hour 'til opening. The traffic, however, was very backed up.

The first sign to greet us was this:

I got a kick out of this one:

Here's the road as it currently looks:

And managed to get a few good pics of the parking lot project as well:

Once we got on the green tram (my favorite!), it was off to the entrance! As we pulled up, I noticed the first thing that was different from the last time I was there (April '07)--they now have metal fences set up to help organize the flow of people waiting for the trams to take them back to the parking lots. Pretty cool.

Terry Sanders was out there as the Prison Warden along with a couple other characters. They all greeted us with a loud, hearty, "Goooooood MORNING!" I of course geeked out seeing Terry in the Prison Warden costume, so I had my friend take a pic:

I got a good pic of the SDC logo; it's kinda funny to see the little "Rights Reserved" R hanging on the bottom... By the way, this is one of a few photos I made wallpaper size (1024X768).

More to come...

General Silver Dollar City Talk / New characters!!!
« on: April 28, 2008, 09:39:14 PM »
I just checked out Terry Sanders' website, and here's a bit of info I found on his front page that might interest ya'll:

I’m thrilled to be the newest member of the ‘Image Maker’ program at Silver Dollar City! They are allowing me to play multiple roles all over the 1800’s park. Some characters like the ‘Prison Warden’, ‘Doc Harris’, ‘Mr. M. Balmer-the undertaker, & ‘Ada Mae’ just to name a few!

Hmmm... I wonder if I'll run into any of those characters on Wednesday.

With Terry not going to always be Deputy Tweedle, we could almost play a game of "Spot Terry" and see how many different characters of his we can get pics of and identify. LOL

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Lockers and other stuff
« on: April 26, 2008, 11:19:00 PM »
I know that there are lockers over by the Ozark Marketplace, but I was wondering if there are any other lockers (I want to say someone had mentioned there are some near the Waterboggan?) elsewhere in the park. I'm also curious about their size. I was figuring that since my friend and I will be leaving for home when the park closes, we ought to bring a change of clothes to put in a locker, then get them and change in the restrooms before we head for the car.

I'm also curious as to whether or not SDC still allows you to bring food into the park. We're doing this daytrip on a very, very tight budget, and hope to bring some Powerade (32 oz. bottles are only $1 a piece at Hy-Vee right now) and sandwiches in a little bag to save us money.

Other Parks / Silverwood Train Robbery
« on: February 26, 2008, 07:46:30 PM »
Was doing my bi-monthly search of Youtube for new SDC-related videos when I came across a video of a train robbery skit at the theme park called Silverwood (never heard of it before). I'm just curious to know what you guys think about it... They've got a pretty impressive set and some good special effects, too.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Haunted areas of SDC
« on: January 25, 2008, 09:56:55 PM »
I was doing some searching online about Marmaros and SDC, and came across this funny post from a former SDC security person:

(WARNING: Some medium language in some of the other posts in that thread)

I thought ya'll might find it interesting.

« on: January 19, 2008, 03:35:51 PM »
I know there are other people on here who are also members of Coaster Community..... I was just curious to know if any of you are having difficulties getting into the CC forum?

I just tried to go there, and it said that I'm banned from using the forum!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Taking photo & video requests
« on: October 09, 2007, 11:08:25 PM »
I've come into a little bit of money, enough to get myself a nice digital camera, a ten-pack of one-hour camcorder tapes, and a high-capacity (3-6 hour on one charge) battery for my camcorder, as well as funding my third of a trip to Branson with my friends in December.

So, I'm going to be going to SDC for Christmas loaded with plenty of room for high quality video and photos.

Therefore, I thought I'd ask ya'll if you had anything specific you might want me to take photo and/or video of.

I will definitely be staking out for an hour to catch all six of the songs in the Light Show rotation on video.

Beyond that, are there any suggestions? I want to make a checklist to take with me 'cause I fear I'd miss something that I wanted to get if I tried to just go by memory of what I wanted to capture.

Random Talk / Avatars and banners
« on: September 10, 2007, 03:25:39 PM »
Not sure where to put this, so thought I'd put it here for now.

I had an inquiry about the banner I made that I'm using for my signature and thought I'd start a thread where people can give me suggestions for various SDC-related avatars and banners that I can make for people on the forum to use.

I won't take actual requests, since I can't guarantee fast production, but if there's something specific you're looking for, just put it in your suggestions and I can see if I can get to it. I'll link to them as soon as I get them finished and uploaded to Photobucket.

Ozark Marketplace / SDC-centric Youtube
« on: August 30, 2007, 09:31:33 PM »
My Youtube account is planned to feature all of the SDC-centric videos that I make, so I thought I'd post a link to it here:

http://youtube.com/profile?user=rjoyhelvie

And I'll use this thread to alert ya'll of any updates, the first of which shall be in this very post.

I just made and posted a quick parody commercial last night, wherein I spoof the Mastercard Priceless commercials using SDC as the topic.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6lZwBI-s8DI

Please excuse the quality of the clip. The original AVI file is actually quite high-quality, but Youtube compresses the heck out of videos.

Here's the newest blog entry, with info for the upcoming Christmas season.... You know, I coulda sworn they'd said they were replacing the tree with a 7-story, but maybe their plans changed...

« on: August 19, 2007, 08:05:33 PM »
Okay, I have my SDC-only Photobucket up and running. Right now, I have sub-albums for Concept Art, Satellite Pics, Trip Pics, and images of my personal SDC collection. Coming soon will be the pics of all the things I've found on Ebay.
