Welcome to the fifth week of "A Detailed Discussion"!

The current Discussion will be stickied as well as the previous, so there will always be two threads of this project at the top of the thread for people to have easy access.

INFO ON A DETAILED DISCUSSION THREADS

I thought I might try something new on here. Once a week, I'll post a new thread where we can have detailed discussion of a specific aspect of SDC where we can give compliments, air concerns, and do comparisons to SDC's sister park Dollywood. Once all the topics on my list have been exhausted, I will be going through all the threads and putting together a "Fandom Entreaty" including direct quotes and the like (as long as you give permission). Once put together, I'll post the Entreaty to the forum for everyone to read and give ideas for changes, omissions, additions, etc. Once we have a final draft, I will be sending it to SDC.

TOPIC 5: SOUTHERN GOSPEL PICNIC

For the fifth "A Detailed Discussion," we can discuss Southern Gospel Picnic, now that it's over.

To give a bit of a format to these Detailed Discussion threads, here's a list of questions to get things started:

What is your favorite fest-related show during Southern Gospel Picnic? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related activity during Southern Gospel Picnic? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related shop during Southern Gospel Picnic? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related food during Southern Gospel Picnic? Least favorite?

What would you omit if you were in charge of Southern Gospel Picnic?

What would you add if you were in charge of Southern Gospel Picnic?

Would you be interested in being quoted in a "Fandom Entreaty" to be compiled and sent to SDC (this "Fandom Entreaty," when finished, would first be posted in full to SDCFans)?

So.... let the Detailed Discussion begin!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / A Detailed Discussion: Food/Drinks
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:16:35 PM »
Welcome to the fourth week of "A Detailed Discussion"!

Since I'm late getting this up (school is in session now, so suddenly busy busy busy), and next Monday is Labor Day, I'm going to make this the thread for this week AND next week and keep it going until a week from this coming Monday.

The current Discussion will be stickied as well as the previous, so there will always be two threads of this project at the top of the thread for people to have easy access.

TOPIC 4: FOOD/DRINKS

For the fourth "A Detailed Discussion," I am using the topic of food and drinks as requested by Duelist. This is something that is one of those non-Fest topics that will keep us busy in between Fest-related topics.

To give a bit of a format to these Detailed Discussion threads, here's a list of questions to get things started:

What is your favorite sit-down restaurant? Least favorite?

What is your favorite concession-type food place? Least favorite?

What is your favorite drink cart/etc? Least favorite?

What is your favorite shop/stand for food (Candy Factory, Sullivan's Mill, Apple Butter, Jerky, Honey, etc)? Least favorite?

What are your favorite festival foods and drinks? Least favorite?

What food/drink related places/items would you omit if you were in charge?

What food/drink related places/items would you add if you were in charge?

Would you be interested in being quoted in a "Fandom Entreaty" to be compiled and sent to SDC (this "Fandom Entreaty," when finished, would first be posted in full to SDCFans)?

Welcome to the third week of "A Detailed Discussion"!

The current Discussion will be stickied as well as the previous, so there will always be two threads of this project at the top of the thread for people to have easy access.

I thought I might try something new on here. TOPIC 3: SHOPS

For the third "A Detailed Discussion," I was inspired by Duelist's thread about SDC's shops. I've decided that fest-specific Discussions will occur after that particular Fest has ended (for those left in the year), and so in the time between then, I'll have non-Fest and earlier-in-this-year-Fests topics for the Discussions.

My aim with this project is to cover every possible aspect of the park that I can possibly think of. Which is why, despite there being a thread about shops already up, I thought I'd go ahead with that topic for the sake of this particular project and to get the specific questions put out in a specific thread (and so that I don't forget to do the topic later... I really need to make a list! LOL).

To give a bit of a format to these Detailed Discussion threads, here's a list of questions to get things started:

What is your favorite craft-related shop? Least favorite?

What is your favorite park (overall) merchandise shop? Least favorite?

What is your favorite ride (specifically) merchandise shop? Least favorite?

What shops would you omit if you were in charge?

What shops would you add if you were in charge?

Would you be interested in being quoted in a "Fandom Entreaty" to be compiled and sent to SDC (this "Fandom Entreaty," when finished, would first be posted in full to SDCFans)?

So.... let the Detailed Discussion begin!

Welcome to the second week of "A Detailed Discussion"! My plan is to keep the current Discussion stickied as well as its previous, so there will always be two threads of this project at the top of the thread for people to have easy access. So, basically, we'll have this one and KidsFest stickied until next Monday when KidsFest will get demoted and next week's topic is posted/stickied.

Once a week, I'll post a new thread where we can have detailed discussion of a specific aspect of SDC where we can give compliments, air concerns, and do comparisons to SDC's sister park Dollywood. TOPIC 2: MOONLIGHT MADNESS

So, for the second "A Detailed Discussion," I'd like to discuss Moonlight Madness. Now that it is over for the year, I thought we could talk in-depth about all aspects of Moonlight Madness: music, theming, shops/merchandise, etc.

I know we already have other threads concerning MM, but as part of this project, I think it'd be nice to have a single thread where everything can be brought together into one discussion.

To give a bit of a format to these Detailed Discussion threads, here's a list of questions to get things started:

What is your favorite fest-related show during Moonlight Madness? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related activity during Moonlight Madness? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related shop during Moonlight Madness? Least favorite?

What would you omit if you were in charge of Moonlight Madness?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / A Detailed Discussion: KidsFest
« on: August 09, 2010, 05:46:26 PM »
I thought I might try something new on here. Once a week, I'll post a new thread where we can have detailed discussion of a specific aspect of SDC where we can give compliments, air concerns, and do comparisons to SDC's sister park Dollywood.

So, for the first "A Detailed Discussion," I'd like to discuss KidsFest. Now that it is over for the year, I thought we could talk in-depth about all aspects of KidsFest: shows, "characters," theming, etc.

I just finished reading this Dollywood KidsFest picture review: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=774260#p774260

And I've gotta say.... DW's KidsFest looks SO much nicer than what SDC has. It's a lot less invasive (the flowerpot sculptures are adorable!), and it looks like there are a lot of cooler things to see and do: giant sand sculpture, a prospector & costumed dog that are not some random Nickelodeon cartoon characters, and, especially, Kamp Kidsfest.

I could go into all the other non-Kidsfest stuff in that review that look amazing, but that's for another week.

To give a bit of a format to these Detailed Discussion threads, here's a list of questions to get things started:

What is your favorite fest-related show during KidsFest? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related activity during KidsFest? Least favorite?

What is your favorite fest-related shop during KidsFest? Least favorite?

PS: Note, too, that there is a Rainmaker at Dollywood! I've been to SDC 7 times now this year, and while the wagon is there in Main Street, I haven't seen hide nor hair of any Rainmaker. >:(

So, on May 1st, at 9:00pm, Silver Dollar City held a dance party on Main Street. There was a very impressive crowd there for it, and there had to be over a hundred people who were actually dancing (with many more looking on).

As posted in the 50th Anniversary Weekend Reviews thread, here's the playlist for the dance party; it's mostly in order, but not entirely:

Celebration by Kool and the Gang
The Electric Slide
The Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)
YMCA by The Village People
Simon Says (a song I've never heard before, but it was fun!)
Cotton-Eyed Joe by Rednex
Hokey Pokey (which started out traditional then did some different music styles)
Bunny Hop
Boot-scootin' Boogie
Time Warp
The Twist
Cha-Cha Slide Part II
Then a medley that went: The Dinosaur/Walk Like An Egyptian/Come On Ride The Train/Hand Jive/Thriller/Cupid Shuffle
And to end it all, Na Na Hey Hey (The Goodbye Song)

Yes, it was full of modern music, but it was... FUN. Even for someone like me who only participated in a couple of the dances.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is first to find out who else was there 'cause I'm curious about your opinions. Second, I was just reading the newest brochure for SDC and just like I'd said elsewhere on the forum that I'd love to see them do, they're going to have the dance party every night during Moonlight Madness!

Personally, I'm excited. :D

I do think that maybe they should do the Time Warp first, to kinda give an overall feel of "time traveling from the 1880s to the 2010s" before all the modern music. LOL Just a thought.

SDC Memories/ Park History / The Billboard's coverage of SDC's opening day
« on: December 13, 2009, 04:45:51 PM »
I am finding all sorts of awesome things today as I do my research for my short story. Here's the article in the May 9th, 1960, edition of The Billboard, chronicling the opening day of Silver Dollar City:

http://books.google.com/books?id=vh8EAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA103&ots=gqYiTfuYRo&dq=Missouri%20Spot%20Opens%20May%201%3B%20Draws%2018%2C000%22%20(May%209%2C%201960)&pg=PA103#v=onepage&q=Missouri%20Spot%20Opens%20May%201;%20Draws%2018,000%22%20(May%209,%201960)&f=false

18,000 people... Can you imagine how many people are going to be there next year, exactly 50 years later? I can't wait!!!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Phoebe Snapp
« on: December 13, 2009, 02:05:12 PM »
Been doing some research about Marmaros and the Baldknobbers and the fire they supposedly started (the one FitH is based on). Well, I skimmed through the FitH thread we have here, and got interested by the mentions of the Snapp family, which I'd seen briefly mentioned on a couple sites about the Baldknobbers.

So, I went into a more in-depth search mode, and found this:

http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/v9/n5/f86d.htm

The info about the Snapp family comes about halfway down the page, and Phoebe Snapp (whose married surname was Siler) is interviewed on "page" 4.

I thought it was a very cool random piece of info that ya'll might be interested in.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / T-Shirts & the 50th Anniversary
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:01:11 AM »
Do you think we should come up with a special design for SDCFans T-shirts in honor of the 50th anniversary next year? We could all wear them any time we're at the park so we can find each other as well as show our appreciation and excitement at SDC celebrating such a huge achievement.

I have a friend who owns a screen-printing company. He was telling me yesterday that an order of 25 shirts would be $10 a shirt. That made me think about how we should get extra-special shirts for next year.

I plan to be there all day May 1st, and I'm sure plenty of others on here are hoping to be there, too. It'd be the best and very appropriate day to have a huge gathering of forum members.

What do ya'll think? I know it's a ways away, but time slips by fast, and it always works best to plan early.
