First off, this is not Pinkel's fault. He felt that he had the best players that he had on the roster in those positions. At the same time there is a trickle down effect. The assistant coaches, especially on defense got way too comfortable with the offense always bailing them out every game. That clearly was not the way to win ball games especially when you run into other high powered offenses.
Missouri had the 117 ranked pass defense in the NCAA. If you did not know, that means Missouri is dead last. However, the silver lining to that is the fact that the highest ranked pass defense in the Big XII was 98th and I think it was Colorado.
sdcforever, you mentioned that we are losing so many talented players after this season. I say that is not the case. We returned almost our entire defense and we saw that made no difference. It was a SENIOR who blew his coverage and cost us the game against kU, and on Saturday the SENIORS were the ones that were constantly getting burnt on defense. On Offense, we are losing Daniel and Coffmann for sure. While we will miss Coffmann, we have a lot of talent in the wings waiting to come on stage. We will miss Wolfert as well, but his head has not been on right here lately as he thinks he is cursed or something. Daniel is a ticking time bomb and it is very obvious he can no longer get the job done. Gabbert has proven that he can march his team down the field and we have an excellent recruiting class coming in.
Missouri next year
vs. Illinois (W)
vs. Bowling Green (W)
@ Nevada (W)
vs. Nebraska (W) -- they too are losing a lot after this season, but they still may win North
@ Oklahoma State (?) -- OSU is losing a lot of their key players, but this is in Stillwater
vs. Texas (L) -- even without Colt, Texas wins this one
@ Colorado (W) -- too much animosity on this team to win for now
vs. Baylor (W) -- I give Baylor two more years before they "break out"
@ K-State (W) -- It is going to take Snyder more than a year to "fix" this team
vs. Iowa State (W) -- this game is going to be closer than some think
vs. Kansas (?) -- could go either way
