Woo! I just figured out how to solve the log in/log out problems! I should have it all fixed tonight, and everything should run smoothly here on out.

Are you sure?  When I go to the Main Site, it kicks me out, and I have to log in again (using Firefox 2.0.0.4).

The nice thing about it was that it was character driven.  The characters were on the boats with us, telling us where to go and heightening the experience.  It was no more than a canoe ride, though, so there wasn't much infrastructure other than the geysers and things that soaked the riders.

Not really my kind of movie, but it looks like a wild ride.  The last movie we saw was WALL-E, which was really well presented, humorous, action-packed, and beautiful with its inclusion of the Hello, Dolly scene and song.  If you can see through the green-preaching, the movie is just good story-telling.  Pixar is at its best when the dialog is left out, and for the first quarter of the movie, they did just that - very creative.

It was the Greedy Brothers ride on Lake Silver.  It started near the scrimshaw place and we paddled the boats around the target area that's now part of Geyser Gulch (You can see the structure in the video.).  I think the diving bell may have still been in operation, as I remember thinking this was the wettest ride I'd ever been on at the time.  The attraction was only in operation for a year or two.

I think this was early 80s though, Old Guy, not late 80s.  Are you sure about your dates?

No excuse.  For a few of the older shows, this may be true, but others can be salvaged enough to entertain.  If we're cutting all the offensive stuff for everybody, there's some current material that needs to be cut, as well, but that would be pretty picky.

Do you think they were offending hillbillies?  Who else?

Would it be so hard to bring back the old shows and simply put them on five year rotations?  There would be plenty of material and the shows would be ready to be rerun after 25 years.  People would even look forward to seeing them again.

I must say that I appreciate that the language in the forums is respectful and not profane.  The members generally refrain from jumping on each other and calling names.  Thanks, Steve, and keep up the good work, SDCFans!

Not to be a downer, but as a tribute to some of those "characters" who are no longer with us, I thought this topic would have a place in our forum.

Tony McCarty:  indeed a "fixture" outside the saloon for many years and one of my best friends.  We used go fishing together quite a bit, or water skiing, and once we took a seven day trip up to Wyoming and Colorado for some fishing and sightseeing.   Tragically, he was killed in a car accident a number of years ago.  We were at the Saloon, preparing for the day's work when someone from management came down and delivered the news to us.  Probably my worst day ever at Silver Dollar City.  We canceled the first couple of shows and then, as he would have wanted us to, continued on with the day.  I still miss him.

Perhaps some of you will have something to add about other people.  Obviously Shad belongs here, but I also remember a very elderly man who always cleaned the restrooms and Stacy, the guitarist for the Time Machine Band for several years.  This, too, is a part of SDC history and memories.

It was the song that held the ride to the theme of the queue.  Not only was it about accomplishing things, but it was about doing things together.  All the examples in the queue are about pairs of people doing impossible, daredevil things.  I always loved that song, and I've rarely ridden since the song has gone.  It had to be an original.

These are terrific.  I love the old shots and the old maps.  Thank you for posting them.

Trust me, FITH with the lights on is no great woop. I spent part of a winter replanting plastic flowers in front of Red Flander's place, picking up garbage thrown from cars etc. and it's kind of seady looking with the lights on. Now off would be cool......

That's what I'm thinking.  Actually, so would the Flooded Mine - no shoot-out, just floating through with the music and sound effects.  Something for them to think about for another Midnight Madness in October.  I know they won't want to promote the Halloween theme, but there's nothing wrong with scaring people.

Well, the costumes would be a pretty simple solution to the illusion that we are really in the 1800s.

As the parent of a four-year-old, I can attest to the fact that she can be entertained by picking up sticks; and as the teacher of elementary students for 18 years, I know a bit about how to keep the attention of that crowd, as well.  Some entertaining shows and original projects can easily created to do this, appeal to families, and look good in advertisements - all without resorting to hiring entertainers from catalogs.

That would be fine with me, but dog shows and magicians who dress in modern costumes and use modern music don't work for me.  Likewise with the circus.  Worldfest seems to work better, with most groups wearing traditional costumes (but not always).  I loved hearing the bagpipes, several years ago - it lent a new sound to the atmosphere that was kind of cool.
