I was certainly there in '83, but I don't remember eating dinner in Echo Hollow.  I doubt many people did.  Most people don't want a sit-down meal in the heat.  It would be nice if they offered something a little more substantial that pretzels and funnel cakes, though.

Other Parks / Re: Ozland amd Joplin Disney
« on: July 29, 2008, 06:31:41 PM »
I think the media pretty much scared away whoever was trying to buy the land for Disney (or for whatever reason).  They pounced on the issue and exposed it to the point that prices would go way up on the land.

That being said, SDC could even profit off another big park as long as it increased the volume of people to the area, much in the same way Universal does.  I agree, however, that it would be a huge blow and would take some slim times.

Putting the park near Joplin would really hurt, though, but locating it closer to SDC would actually be preferable in this case.  These rumors are often spread buy the timeshare people though, and are used to convince people that their timeshare purchase will be worth so much more in the future.

I remember seeing L.A.'s CDs in Hannibal, as well, and thinking he looked familiar.  Thanks for clearing it up.

Hey Joy, it just hit me that tinaalsgirl is a reference to Quantum Leap.  Am I right about that?  Of course I am.

Here are two shots of the Indian Ridge progress west of SDC, another slice into the Ozark Mountains:

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Wildfire

Here a random picture from this week.  It captures the theming of Wildfire far from the actual ride.  SDC is really good at tucking the big rides into the outer nooks so as not to interfere with the ambiance of the city.

I'm not sure yet who the workers were.  They shouldn't come across as grumpy, though - they should be more prepared with answers from the bosses - but I understand - they're probably tired of people asking them questions.

Also, my wife has reported that there is no vinyl siding on the Culinary & Arts School - that is is wood siding.  That makes me feel better, as I couldn't imagine them going vinyl - hopefully that will remain true on the 2009 project, as well.

She's excited about the cooking classes, BTW, and wants everyone to know she's not one of the "older folks".

My wife is in "the city" today, and she made sure to take the camera.  She tells me she has shots of the parking lot project, of some flags in the GE, and of the devastation in TSL.  I'll try to get them to post sometime before the weekend is over.  I make no promises, however, as to the quality of the pictures, though, since I haven't seen them yet.  She reports a couple of grumpy park workers, one of whom told her the balloons may not be going back up any time soon.

Steve, should I shoot them directly to you for the main site?

I just can't imagine what it will all look like when finished.  After all this time, even the parking lot is changing.  And filling in that big valley seems like a daunting task.  I hope it doesn't settle after it's paved.

The picture with the caption "I don't even remember what these were from" is of the stationary carriages on Becky's Carousel.  You can also see some rope components of the climbing equipment in the background of the Balloon Chase.

I still vote for a Balloon Chase in Marvel Cave.  That would be awesome.

The new webpage for the Culinary & Craft School is up at http://www.sdcculinarycraftschool.com/.  They're making a big deal about how much of the building has hand craftsmanship from shops in the park (no word about who handmade the vinyl siding), and the class schedule is up for the season which starts September 11.

There will be two classes a day, and classes are two hours apart.  Cost for each class is only $10.  For this season, there are five classes offered on various days, and the classes are all themed for the fall/winter season.  Future offerings will include crafts and classes for kids.

I don't know, it's kind of strange.  Just a quirk I guess.  Sometimes it kicks me out, and other times I can go to a variety of other sites and return to discover I'm still logged in.  It's not anything you need to worry about though.  I'll try to pay attention to see if it's something in particular that I'm doing.
